Pets are animals, not people and should never have the same rights as people. They should be banned from transport - leave the damn dog at home. The vast majority of dog owners do not clean up the poo, let them run wild in on-leash parks, continually flout laws designed to protect the public from vicious animals& generally do not control the damn things. There are already far too many dogs in Australia. Look at what happened just yesterday, 1 dead 3 year & 1 mauled toddler. Keep the bans on dogs
Also, you won't be in a cafe and all the sudden 20 blind people with 20 dogs come in all at once... instead It's a very minimal and rare thing, so it doesn't really cause any problems for anyone.
I think maybe people should focus on educating other owners to be more responsible, and maybe try to make MORE pet cafes/beaches/parks, rather than making ALL of them for pets.
As far as the blind people with their guide dogs... A lot of blind (or other handicapped) people highly rely on their dogs. Their dogs may lead them, protect them, open doors for them, do tasks for them that they cannot do. If a blind person can't bring their dog with them into anywhere, then the blind person his or herself can't do much of anything.
As far as letting dogs/cats/etc into restaurants, etc... I think it CAN be a health issue. The rate of allergies seems to be increasing, and I know a few people who are even DEATHLY allergic to dogs/cats. If there are allergic people eating in a cafe, and all the sudden a bunch of dogs/cats come in, that could trigger a serious reaction. Also, not everyone washes the pet every week, and no one really knowing what the pet may be tracking in, something harmful could be tracked in.
I don't know about Australia, but I think a lot of this "discrimination" that this lady talks about has a lot to do with the OWNERS of the pets. Some parks/beaches don't allow pets because a lot of pets may poop/pee all over the place, and while this lady may be responsible and clean up after her pet, I think the vast majority of owners (especially in America) don't pick up after their pet at all.
