Thanks for this video. I just got the same pistol and was wondering if you released the video of the outside barrel polishing? Wanting to do that to mine also. Couldn't find it on your list. Love my micro compact, although been getting a lot of shell casings hitting me in the head. Guess my extractor needs tweeking. Also have a Kimber Raptor II 5" blue model and love it! You got kickass taste brother. Keep up the great work!
Correction. ANY grit of sand paper, polish or anything IS removing material! Grit vs. metal equals removing material.
I've been working on 1911s for 37 years and there are many ways to do the ramp. 600 or 800 grit and dowel rods is a good way to start. No videos available since there weren't any video cams when all of these ideas were thought up.
Just bugs me to hear someone saying that "no material is being removed" when talking about "removing material" to make something shine.
@TheArmorychannel hey pete i know you from pa was wondering what the law is for one in the chamber for you down hear. Im from ct and was talking to an ex cop he said if im cught with one in chamber auto 2 yrs in jail. But i can have a full clip so all i gotta do is rack it. Let me know just curious, i think its bs
Fuck this, a Colt Government Model 1911 out of the box is just fine the way it is, I've owned 4 of them over the years, I spent a fuckload of money customizing two of them, kept the other two straight stock.
Couldn't tell the difference.
I could have bought 3 or 4 more guns for all the money I spent on my "competition" grade .45's
Great down to Earth video, thanks! I have a SA Lightweight Champion Operator that I'm detailing. Your instructional style is perfect, youse gotta be from Philly. I am but moved far away.
Hey Pete, never comment on any videos but I must say, with all the load of bullshit videos out there, its great to see a guy helping the average 1911 owner out. Thanks.
nice video my fren but let me suggest some points here 1thousand grit is goo but dont use your thumb in shining try a round smooth pen and wrap it with the sand paper ,im sure it would be agood result. then to all my frens out there new guns should fire 100 round hardball first before you tune the ramp. through that you will have scratch as a guide during your ramp tuning . anyway nice video
thanks for the CORRECT INFO for us home doers I just bought my first 1911 (citadel 1911 45) i did this polish on it and i noticed a difference right away!
thank you and keep up the good work there Brother LT
Loved this vid Pete! I'm going to go through both of my pistols and do the same thing. Also, did you use the exact same steps to polish up the exterior of the barrel? Keep up the great vids man, I watch everyday.
On a .45acp a Sharpie marker works well as a backer to the sandpaper for the feed ramp. Also, Im midway through the vid but make sure to polish the inner slide face. Important on the 1911 style pistol. Made a bunch of difference on my Springfield A-1.
When I saw that dremel sitting there with the sanding drum on it and then saw the thread title I almost panicked. So many guns have been destroyed by guys with dremels and unsteady hands. I was so glad to see it was only used with the buffing wheel. I wish they would make those polishing bullets a bit sturdier. The little tiny polishing drums work just as well.
PS: One suggestion I would make is an assortment of different size dowels to wrap the sandpaper around (I use 600 grit wet/dry paper).
@thearmorychannel again great video I know you don't like taurus but hey its my first 1911 and I love it you inspired me to get a 1911 anyway the finish sucked so I changed it (check it out) great channel man I'd say your the realest guy thus far on here keep it up

@theARMORYchannel Hey Pete was wondering if you have shot the Steyr M series I'm looking into getting one in .40 and was wondering what your opinion on them was. Thanks.
another very helpful video man, of course with your humor it makes them even more enjoyable. thanks! BTW see you maybe lookin at the Rock River AR - very nice rifle love mine, it has a great two stage trigger, nice fit and finish on the gun, no failures (so far), good price and for a little more money get the chrome lined barrel. later
hey pete, can you make a video on proper lubrication techniques, types of lube, and personal preferences on pistols and rifles? i think that ould be a good vid. thanks.
Pete: Nice vid dude. You really dont have to spend a whole lot of time or money to make your gun more reliable. I'm going to start doing it to some of my guns. By the way ... where did you get the holster for your glock?
Nice vid....This would have been helpfull before i paid 30 bucks to have my colt xse full size polished.... I now do all my work myself, cheaper that way!
Could you do a vid on how to remove a noob scratch on a brushed stainless 1911?
So I guess by increasing the perfection of the surface finish it will make the firearm feed better? Being 15 I dont have the balls to do that to any of mine without good reason....
i read that you can polish the slide rails by dabbing a little flitz in there and working the slide back and forth. not sure if you'd want to try that with your hands being painful and all but it might be worth a shot.
Pete. I have been a little while lurker. I subscribed to your channel some time ago. I enjoy listening and watching your videos. They are very indeed very educational. I really enjoyed this particular video alot. Not because that I have a 1911, but showing how to polish the feed ramp, was very good. I wanted to do this to a couple rifles. This video gave me info, on how to do this without damage. Thanks for these videos. Please don't stop making them. Very good info for less experience people.
I bought a springfield 1911-a1 about 2 or 3 years ago brand new, it has not had any work to it, cost a little under 600 bucks, and my feed ramp looks exactly like your end result, slick as wet glass, could it be i just got lucky? on my pistol the majority of the feed ramp is on the frame and the little section that you described as a football is on the barrel. the frame is from brazil, (shrug) guess they do good work in brazil?
hey pete so if you do this it lets the rounds go in smoother and less jamming, screw it im gonna do do this to my rock island full frame 1911 great vid man and can you let me know how much for a shirt if you still got any id love to get one man
I guess you can debate the functional merits of polishing the feed ramp, but it sure the hell looks better when your looking into the chamber. I think it is an easy upgrade and looks good. Nice video Pete.
It is argueable that polishing the feed ramp really does little or nothing. If the feed ramp has unsuitable geometry for the bullet you're trying to feed in it, I doubt polishing it will do anything to help.
@esh325 all polishing does as far as feeding is that it makes the ramp smooth as possible whereas there is little friction hindering the feeding of the round
Great tutorial video, Pete. I gotta couple oldsters that could use some freshening up with the Dremel and Flitz. That Flitz ain't cheap. Mine cost me almost $20. I use it on everything, especially buffed aluminum parts on the Harleys, like the wheels on the Road King and the custom made primary chain inspection covers I had made for both bikes.
First two minutes made me feel better about polishing the barrel on my p239 sas. I've been a little hesitant. May get to that this weekend. Thanks Pete!
hey pete, idk if you buffed off that blued finish on the barrel yet but i think you should make that one an all black 1911. black wrap-around hogue grip and all.
it would give it a tactical look.
maybe sometime in the future, you can start doing some dura-coating on some pistols and rifles and what not.
Great video Pete I always come looking at videos on your channel you definatly know your stuff. Also your gun collection is amazing and all your 1911's are a dream man keep it up. Godspeed Pete take care
Looking good man, the less friction the better. Im in the market for a rock island armory 1911 and I will be using my dremel to do this when purchased.
I would rather do stuff like that myself.Granted I'm no expert but I think it makes me more knowledgeable about the gun.Great video Pete.Yes I've pissed on my shirt tail before to.LOL Take care
i need to polish the ramp on my kimber custom II. most of the fuckin feed ramp on the kimber custom II is in the frame which i dont really like and i need to polish the barrel really bad. looks like im headin to home depot to buy a dremel cuz i want my shit all shiney. I always end up buying shit after i watchyour videos.....thanks pete. lol
Good informative video. I'm not a big 1911 fan (like Glock-Sig), but I still have a bit of a fancy for them. Thank you for your time it you took to produce this.
@theARMORYchannel Hey no need to thank me Pete, I've been watching your viedos fo some time, and I've consulted with someone whomay be my future employer and thats what he would do.
You show really technical things that over videos would miss and thats what gun owners like.
@TheZombieTomShow I'd think it was because he knows what he's on about, and he knows what to expect with a new 1911. Comparable to an experienced harmonica player - no matter how expensive the harp is, they will always go through the same process that they know will make that harp just how they like it, wearing through the parts, soaking the reeds etc, playing it in. I reckon that's what's going on here with this 1911.
@TheZombieTomShow because he wants to and he is the one who paid money for the fucking thing and if you dont believe in altering a gun before you shoot it then dont you fuckin homo
Thanks for this video. I just got the same pistol and was wondering if you released the video of the outside barrel polishing? Wanting to do that to mine also. Couldn't find it on your list. When your polishing metal with 1000-2000 grit sand paper use wd40 or motor oil on the paper. It will stop from the paper getting clogged.

Good informative video. I'm not a big 1911 fan (like Glock-Sig), but I still have a bit of a fancy for them. Thank you for your time it you took to produce this.

10:45 lol - BTW I love my Micro Compact too. It's ridiculously accurate. It's my favorite 1911.

@danebow240 not enough to effect the performance bro. gun smiths do it every day.
