  • Very Nice!! To those asking about his tone, the mic placement and quality have A LOT to do with it. Thanks again Martin

  • Woah. That's amazing!

  • sounds so badass

  • I happened along this video a few days ago and I've probably played it 50 times since then. I absolutely love it. I love your guitar playing! Thank you for sharing!!!

  • Wicked arrangement. Nice skills mate.

  • I am willing to pay you to be my roommate. xD

  • WOW!

  • You're awesome Brother and it would be cool as hell to jam with you.

  • Ah,i thought that was lap steel in the background. At any rate i think it settles in there real nice.I've managed to work a few parts out by ear and close scrutiny of your video-any tabs for this song the way you play it??Your finger picking is outragous!I like how you slap the strings wit your thumb and it sounds like a flat snare. At first i thought it was a metronome!lol

  • i played acoustic some years now and, it seems that i have to keep on a couple of more years haha! good playing greets from sweden

  • I'v been playing guitar now for about a year and a half to two years and my only wish is to be half as good as you! you have some true talent. I hope to see more videos up! Great work

  • I love it classic smooth sounding like I could fall asleep to it like the slap you added to just gives it that cool old time sound

  • I wish this didn't have the fake drum effect behind it. I feel like it's unnecessary, and detracts from the playing, which is really quite nice.

  • @SamRBrown I was wondering about that, but i am not sure there is a drum effect. I think he is just slapping.

  • @elkgunner well, I listened again and SamR appears to be right. But it still sounds great.

  • I've only recently heard the term "gangstagrass" and this really seems to be it. I love this sound. You almost don't even need the drums with that percussive slap going on.

  • I like the picking...it's haunting but the slap gets to be irritating and takes away from the mood. Maybe it his way of keeping the tempre...enjoyable!!! Nice touch but try a version with out the slap...just a creative thought from a producer...

  • @TheWhitestone777 Are you serious? That's what sets his version apart from the myriad of others. What is "tempre" anyways? Do you mean tempo? If so, do you really think someone of his skill needs to slap a guitar to keep tempo...

    No more ideas please.

  • This is great!! Did you teach yourself to play or did you go to school, have someone teach you?

  • @elmerlandon

Martin was created in a laboratory by a team of scientists as a cruel joke on the guitar world. Their objective was to make us all feel inferior by showing us a level of skill outside the reach of mortal human beings. They succeeded.

  • who are the 10 deaf soulless morons who hit the thumbs down on this? that is the best version of this song i've ever heard. your playing is incredible

  • Dude that's funky!

  • O.M.G ur amazing

  • @pinofluvius I really love your arrangement, but before I buy the tabs, is the sound in this video coming from loops, multiple guitars, or reverb?

    Thanks

  • @mingledmeasure1 I think the sound comes from years of practice and raw, unadulterated talent.

  • Amazing! You've some FUNK in you, boy!

  • Wow : That was really great ! , what tuning are you using, dadgad ?

In regards to the the 10 people that hit the dislike button, stupidity is one of the symptoms of inbreeding.

  • it`s great!

  • I just learned this number for me a a mate to play but what you have produced right here is an order of magnitude higher in mastery. Inspiring.

  • What a sound, so sweet. Great picking. Thanks for sharing.

  • Sick

  • Sweet, brilliant playing man, what type/brand of acoustic guitar is that??, been really searching for a nice tone like that for a while to play some acoustic blues.

  • @MrCaribbean

    Thanks man!

It´s a Maton EBG808 Artist, made in Australia. I have added some effects here, like delay, compressor and a band pass filter (using only something like 200-3000 Hz)

    Good luck

    Cheers

    Martin

  • Really great, a piece of genius leonard !

  • OH MY GOD! This vid is freakin amazing! I like this better than the movie/band lol. nice job man

  • Wow, this is absolutely fantastic. I'm working hard to be able to play fingerpicking blues in this style, but at the moment the best I can manage are repetitive loops. This is so incredibly impressive, knowing how hard it must have been.

  • Boy, that was a mighty fine a-pickin'!

  • world class player, and we get to hear you on youtube for free.keep them coming

  • How long's it been since this guy actually had to TRY to play, I wonder. Simply awesome.

  • Wonderful. Have got to get more of this.

  • thats awsome

  • Great stuff.

  • I have just watched this for the first time - I am speechless. A true master at the top of his game. Which other guitarists give you inspiration?

    Absolutely first class

  • sure sounds like another guitar off camera. Pleas do an instructional on this song.

  • @jojojosmart

That sound you hear is a steel guitar. I'm assuming it's there to accent his playing and as a throwback to the original song. Just watch his fingers and you can clearly see what he plays and doesn't play.

  • man that is some devistatingly sick lead.

  • Wow, you are awsome. I'm not going to profess knowing anything about guitars, due to the fact I dont :P but I do know that that peice of music was awsome!

  • you are so gifted...

  • cool groovy style.. love this version. :)

  • OUTSTANDING!!!

  • great playing Martin, could you tell me what thumb picks you use and do you file them down so they are really short

  • @picker223 Thank you!

I use Dunlop mediums, and I file (+polish) them really short. There is a picture at my website under "Links" (for some reason :)

    tallstrom com

  • @pinofluvius Thanks for replying martin,i have filed my pick down and the differance is unbeleaveable. Much easier, only problem being ive broke the wifes best nail file.

  • @picker223 John Pearse makes short thumb picks and they feel good on the thumb.

  • @picker223 mind tabbing this out? been trying to figure it out for months and months.

  • FUCKING AMAZING!

  • awesome man, really.

AWESOME fingerstyle guitar video. Great song. I wish I could play like this. :)

  • hey great stuff what guitar ya got there

  • @wildmanraven Thanks!

It´s a Maton EBG808 Artist, made in Australia.

  • wildmanraven, I live in australia, matins are every where, am thinking of getting one for a bright guitar, as my martin dreadnaught 12 fret is deep and mellow, heaps of tone...I am justy about to start on the finger picken style, learning bass and solo etc, got some good books on amazon, where did you learn, did you have a teacher, or self taught cowboy from high up in the mountains? or what?

I love all the artists on the candy rat lable in cananda, have you heard of it?

  • One more thing. You need to throw some more of that awesome lead like you did in the middle of that song in. Some of the best lead I've ever heard man. I am so happy to have come across you on youtube. Just a little input from a fan. "Need more Lead!!!!" That was fricken awesome man!!!

  • Unbelievable version. I'm a huge Tommy Emmanuel fan, and ran across you last night on youtube. You should look Tommy up. You are just the kind of people he's looking for on his new record label. I'm meeting him in June at the Norman, Ok. concert. I'll put in a good word for you. Keep up the good work my friend. You rule!!

  • That is soooo sweet man I love this! is there anyway to buy it or get the mp3?

  • that was bad ass.

  • What is that you have playing in the background? Is it a Steel Guitar? Awesome Rendition of MOCS AWESOME!! I love it :)

  • @FatalityG15 Thanks! It´s a squareneck resonator, commonly known as a dobro.

  • ''ok.. how many takes? be honest'' ;) srsly, this is amazing, that solo raised the goose bumps man, thanks for the rush..

  • a beautiful cover, really nice. I'm assuming this is you wrote this version?

  • @Cyzos1 Thanks, well, it´s my own arrangement, but it´s a traditional song.

  • I'm amazed and a bit infatuated. lol :o) keep pickin'

  • Thats what I'm talkin' bout. That was incredible!

  • Man, you rock!

  • Omg you are like perfect at playing the guitar!

  • he has bass line playin over?

  • nice Maton Guitar!

  • Oh man. Now that was amazing! Just watched the movie the other night. Fived, Faved, and Subbed. What else can I do for you other than buy the tab now? The solo alone was just slicker than an oil spill on an ice rink. Dangit, someone else who plays geetar betterin' me!

  • Is that standard or open tuning? Sounds open. But what key. G. No.. A???

  • @skexee

Drop D tuning - tune down the low E string a full step to D

  • Dude, that is so Jerry Reed. Not only did you make it look easy but you made it sound original and nice. Two thumbs up, podna! Right to my favs.

  • you got the groove.. nice :)

  • Holy CRAP! That is one of the most incredible fingerpicking examples I've EVER seen! Wow I suck. That's one of those performances that make you either want to hang it all up or work tirelessly day and night!!!!!! Sweet Jesus that was amazing. All in all you could say I liked it. =^D

  • This is amazing! Great job!

  • what beat!!! Really, really good!!! What do I say... it's awesome!!!

  • Son, I do believe you sold your soul at the crossroads!

  • Wow, this is my new favorite song. So bad ass!!!

  • Terrific and very cool!

  • Lovely playing and arrangement

  • Good lord is that ever smooth! think I'll toss my guitars in the fireplace and take satisfaction hearing the strings pop off....then come back and listen to this again...and again............

  • holly smokes! THE BEST

  • WHOA SNAP!!! Best version ever!

  • Tack själv!

Laidback - det passar mig bra :)

  • omg. this is an amazing version of the song.

  • best instrumental virsion ever! right on man

  • absoluetly amazing

  • love it man. nice one.

  • By far the best version of this song out there. Good job dude.

  • great job...wish i could finger pick like that

  • very nice.

  • This is the second best guitarrist i ever seen, Ritchie Blackmore is the only one!

  • @alisonrenan try sungha jung

  • sungha jung is good for his age, not good at all.

  • Do I need to grow fingernails to play this?
