  • Your voice reminds me of Patrick Warburton. lol

  • I played This game as well.

  • The value comes from the backstory of the game and the incredible competition that was never completed thanks to the Videogame Crash of 1983.

  • I shall complete my homework with the pen of the poet

  • @123stephenno No one and I mean no one, fucks with the fuckin nerd!

  • Yup,I remember buying a TON of VCS 2600 cartridges for about $1-2 bucks in 1986 (and I was only like 7 years old). How low had the giant fallen.

  • ahh one of the easiest games ever beat it in 1 day

  • LOL HD

  • thumbs up if you hate youtube commercials.

  • sorry man avgn review is better

  • You took way too long explaining how you got the game...

  • airworld never got finish rumored to be because atari was going bankrupt and sold itself and cancelled the swordquest series and competition

  • what happened to airworld no one has a copy or a prototype but it says airworld in the fireworld and waterworld so wtf happened to air world?

  • airworld poor atari 2600

  • We should start a war to get the Sword, Stone, and Crown.

The Medallion will guide us, and all liquids we shall drink from the medallion will have the power to heal us.

  • @RikiOhRed The medallion was melted down and sold to a coin dealer so unfortunately it no longer exists.

  • @WhenxChristxReturnsx Really?! O_O Damn!

  • @CpKirbachu Sadly -_- Got like 12 grand for it or some amount close to that. He kept the small sword in the medallion.

  • @FreshprinceObelair u seem upset. I bet you like IrateGamer

  • @XNinjaBoyXx Nah he's just irritated by people obsessing over AVGN

  • @Leinad44 Yup, that is right.

  • @Leinad44 Meh. I like AVGN but I dont go crazy over him.

  • @XNinjaBoyXx fuck avgn i

  • i rember

  • Like this if AVGN bought you here!

  • @WeirdVideoGameReview fuck avgn

  • When you said your cousin was named Tim I immediately thought of NintendoCapriSun... Is there something wrong with me?

  • @supermajorabros There's something wrong with us all. :)

  • AVG NERD ;)

  • @StupidVsDumb AVGn hopes somebody will do that

  • awe man... my uncle had this game and i played it and i had no idea wtf was going on.

  • It should be noted that a year after this review, Swordquest (all three of them) are available on the Nintendo DS cart "Atari's Greatest Hits 1".

  • @Antiyonder lol, i was looking at that atari's greatest hits thing on amazon, and went her to see what swordquest was.

then ui got reminded of avgn's vid.

  • this contest must go on the nerdest kingdon depends on it avgn

  • YOU DIDNT LIKE ADVENTURE? WTF???

  • Avgn also has a episode on sword quest if u like the game the story behind the games is worth watching

  • awww why didnt i live in that time? D:

  • @Bamboori .... trust me ... compared to this time it was shit... lol

  • Just bought my copy today with Atari Video Cube and Montezuma's Revenge for about $125. Can't wait to get it in the mail! Looks promising.

  • @StupidVsDumb Agree!

  • games that come with comic books = WIN

(exept for Cheetahmen, thats uh... just bad)

  • @StupidVsDumb Yeah they need to rerelease the last two games for the new consoles and reunite those two winners with the first two to duke it out for the sword.

  • I remember my grandma bought me this with the 7800 for my birthday. Pole Position and Swordquest were the only games I had for quite awhile. I literally had no idea how to play the game, and was just dumbfounded at the gameplay. I seem to remember the game not coming with instructions, only a poster. My cousin borrowed it for a awhile and said he "figured it out and beat it" but I knew he was lying.

  • @serotoninsyndrome Yeah you can't really beat the game. It's a tool used to solve a much broader puzzle. Without the comic book and manual it's impossible to use it.

  • If i made an origonal atari 2600 game out it on cart and deleted all the other roms it'll be the rarest atari 2600 game ever LOL

  • i just found the fireworld at value village for $1.99 very lucky to have one of them.

  • the philosophere stone we found it let go get al FMA LOL

  • I watched the review on AVGN months ago. (I know alot of AVGN fans have been saying the same thing so I'm not going to repeat, even though alot of them are right) The series needs to be remade, then they make Air world. That would be awsome. They can also made more stuff to it.

  • there is alsso AirWorld, but it was not released, though there could be a prototype out there

  • @StupidVsDumb That's true, but we can't blame Jack completely. He saved Atari from going to the ashes

  • I just missed it by 1½ years. If only I was born slightly earlier :(

  • @AFnord even then you were one year old and like: Shit how does this work???

  • just missed it by 26 years lol

  • The Swordquest series is the Holy Grail of Atari Games! Shame Airworld never got made. Wonder if they'll remake the series? I mean, they had some very novel and original ideas in the early days. It's all 1st person shooting nowadays.

  • WE NEED TO MAKE ATARI CONTINUE THE CONTEST! WE NEED TO MAKE THEM RE-RELEASE THE GAMES AND COMICS, CREATE SWORDQUEST IV! WE NEED TO FIND THE TRUE CHOSEN ONES FOR THE PRIZES WE NEED TO START A FUCKING RIOT EMAIL TO ATARI TO FORCE THEM TO CONTINUE AND FINISH THE CONTEST AND FIND THE TRUE CHOSEN ONES! GO TO HELL JACK FOR KILLING SWORDQUEST! NOW LETS FORCE THEM TO RE-RELEASE THE GAMES AND MAKE SWORDQUEST IV AND COMPLETE THE CONTEST AND FIND THE TRUE CHOSEN ONES NOW WHO'S WITH ME REPLY AND THUMBS UP!!

  • @waltdisney19282008 hazaaaaaaaaaaaah!

  • @waltdisney19282008 You just watched AVGN, didn't you?

  • no air world prototpeye is the rarest

  • haha Dante's Inferno!

  • @StupidVsDumb The kingdom of nerdom depends on it!!!

  • @StupidVsDumb but first they need to make airworld

  • how about a review of Waterworld for Super NES? I played it on a Super NES emulator the other day. What an awful, awful licensed movie game...

  • I checked the price on eBay. It costs about 500 dollars with the manual and the comic book and original casing.

  • @koisanjie ... my cousin got one a month ago for 5 bucks on ebay LOL

  • i remember getting my swordquest cartriges at a chain drug store for 99 cents in 1986, but they were in the original boxes - not plain white ones.

  • avgn rules, but avgn fanboy kiddies suck! =) classic game room rules! :)

  • @shairaptor amen

  • want it!

  • I feel somewhat strange to be one of the original folk who watched this video before AVGN brought Swordquest into the spotlight. It's like having knowledge of the future or something.

  • This certainly seems like an interesting idea for a game, but not really well executed or well suited to the 2600. It probably would have been better as a computer game, or maybe something on the NES. The whole 'using an actual, physical comic book to help you solve the game' bit reminds me of the letter from Startropics.

  • sadly they never did complete the contest :(

  • I remember this series just because the George Perez drawn books were incredible . Those led me to the Teen Titans and I have been a George Perez fan ever since. Never did get Waterworld to see the George Perez art, if he drew this issue as well.

Is there anywhere online I could see the pages for Waterworld? Anyone know?

  • @Dishinshoryuken At atariage.

  • @StupidVsDumb You got that from the AVGN, but your right!

  • wow! Had the 1st game back in the day. Never came close to finishing it. I think I found one clue. Easier to pour over the comic looking for the hidden words lol

  • @purplerain0403

The fourth was never made because that was when the video game crash of 1983 and the company was sold. The economic turmoil for games is why the last one never saw the light of day.

  • this is EXACTLY like the new portal update.

  • @StupidVsDumb On an interview with Mike Rideout He said he sold it

  • Give Jack a call look him up on white pages hes there

  • bethsada shold remake this game or another comp. should they should just remake the whole seires and do the contest over again.

  • Is it a myth or truth that he has the treasures

  • Jack Tramel would need to finish the contest. It's for the gamers, by gamers. But no go. Loved the game.

  • @StupidVsDumb

    I agree!

  • yesd hmmm

  • avgn gonna bring shits loads of people to these related videos

  • @hardgayramen4ever for damn sure.

I already watched a Let's Play of Indiana Jones for Atari 2600! Damn, what am I doing? It's 50 minutes past midnight o.O

  • @hardgayramen4ever and im one of the shit load of people to go to the related videos

  • @hardgayramen4ever lmfao fuck yea

  • @hardgayramen4ever

    Mark bring viewers to AVGN!!!

  • @hardgayramen4ever true :D

  • water world CIB on ebay is 1 grand. love to own it sumday...

  • There are currently 6 SWORDQUEST WATERWORLD being sold on ebay

  • i wonder if the guy who bought atari still has that sword prize from the contest...

  • Jack Tramiel kept the other prizes

  • that fatass should'nt have them . atari gamers should have them

  • 3 of the prizes where never given away. there are rumors of what happened to them but there is no hard evidence to support these.

  • Does anyone know what the end of this game was? What was the solution to the contest they were looking for?

    Is it worth knowing?

  • I remember the white boxes with black text,

  • Oh yes indeed. I'm 38 and the K-Mart, Target and Toys R Us all had fire sales on 2600 and 5200 carts around here in 1985. They also were dropping Colecovision and Intellivision carts as well. Making way for the Nintendo Entertainment System that Christmas.

  • Fire Sales?!? Where was I when these were going on? Ah man......:( :( :(

On an up note.....Excellent gaming videos! It is always entertaining to watch reviews of these classic games. Get ready for another subscriber! :D

  • I have Swordquest Earthworld, and is an awful game! However I have the box and the comic book is awesome!

  • Great review like always Mark. Although this is an expensive game, I wouldn't call it one of the most expensive. You can get it loose for around $50. If it's complete then I would expect to pay $100-$200. Some games go for over $1,000.

  • Awesome Video

  • I BirdAss this game.

  • waterworld is worth about 200-300$ yes?

  • If it is, Mark should sell it immediately! I know he's a collector, but if I had a game I wasn't fond of but could be sold for a small fortune, I would hock it at once.

  • i remember the fire sales.... 1$ or so per cart, but they were definitely not in white boxes! Maybe a few incidentals, but most were in original packaging.

They were selling them so aggressively that they had a bin FULL of 2600 games out in front of kay*bee toys.

I had fireworld or earthworld, forget which. Didn't have the manual or comic book though, lol. The minigames are frustrating as fuck

  • totally remember that. it's where I got earth and fire world

  • god, this game would just piss me off!

  • He did.

  • ah... see, I cant catch up with Mark, no matter how hard I try! lol

  • Understandable.

    lol

  • I had this game on the xbox and just didn't understand it :-S

  • 1996?

    Gtfo.

  • ahh.. i remember this episode in law and orde where that autistic guy killed the two girls because of this game

  • Although the WaterWorld contest was canceled, the fifteen persons who made it to the finals received $2000 each. Steven Bell (winner of the EarthWorld contest) and Michael S. Rideout (winner of the FireWorld contest) received $15.000 each.

  • Steven Bell had the talisman melted down to pay for college. Michael S. Rideout still has the chalice in a safe deposit box.

  • Hey I remember when DC Comics had TONS of publicity 4 this game in the 1980's. They did a whole text story (in the LOC/vanity columns) on a contest of "SWORDQUEST". The final 10 contestants had to prove they could get to the end screen. And, for the love of God don't remember what they won. Perhaps I could consult some old comic books. Awywho, George Perez (THE comic book artist of the 1980's) did the art for the comics they were packaged w/ the cart.

  • I had this game about 5 years ago, but I stupidly sold my Atari and all the games I had with it. That is one of my major regrets of my life!

  • one of my fav atari 2600 games

  • Thanks for the old school Atari 2600 review. You have this game, your the man.. I'm jealous.. Keep up the great reviews!

  • Your mom kicks ass!

  • cool

  • To edit my message from before it was actually on PS1 not the PS2 but yeah again it is such a great game both story and game play wise.

  • that would be cool but i don't think he's a heavy rpg gamer

  • Hey i got an idea for a review for you...maybe try reviewing The Legend of Dragoon for the ps2...such a good game in my opinion it definetly rivals FF7 or at least the closest thing rivaling it xD

  • legend of the dragoon was on ps1, but still a good game.

  • The sword quest games always intrigued me. CGR, you always review the games I want to see. Thanks!

  • if you watch the Nerd Halloween video review, the cartridge has a white sticker with orange marker saying Halloween, yeah, that's so cheap xD

  • hey february 15th heh thats my birthday i was 2 in 1984

  • where are you, Rapture O_o

  • Man, looking back at games like this I feel grateful that I grew up with a Snes and an N64.

  • lol

  • they cancelled the contest last minute but the winner got 25000 dollars

  • woah this is surely a shitty game

  • Interesting game.

  • i had this game when i was little but i never new how to play it

  • "February 15, 1984. Just missed it."

That made me laugh hard man. Great vid.

  • haha burn people with monsters and cut them in half. that golden axe video was funny

  • wow i read the wikipedia on this and apparently there was a contest held for swordquest earth world and fire world and the winner got a "talisman of penultimate truth" or"chalice of life" respectively both valued at over $25,000 at the time.

  • Someone did finish the first one in this series:EarthWorld. He did receive a jewel encrusted sword worth $100,000 back in 1983. Unfortunately, the IRS wanted $30,000 in taxes and this guy didn't have a job, so he had to melt down the sword and see the gold and jewels for $40,000, netting him $10,000. Yes, its a true story...

  • That sucks, Atari should pay the taxes for their prices :/

  • Links or it never happened. Plus if it was worth 100k why not sell it for 100k ?!

  • of course he didnt have a job he spent hours a day tryin to figure out how the hell to win that sword

  • The first contest winner got "the talsiman of penultimate truth" a circular amulet with 12 diamons and all 12 birthstones. (one for each zodiac sign) and it was only worth 25,000 not 100,000. and he sold it to pay for school, not becuase he couldn't pay the taxes. check wikipedia, or even just avgn's review of these games if you don't believe me, but do some research before posting a "true story"

  • what system is this on, can u show it plz

  • um, it's in the title baller4ever1... atari 2600 :P

  • mmmn never heard of it

  • ps3

  • Yeah this game is hella rare! I remember when the forums were up (sad face, they have been down for so long) I saw Mark post that he had WaterWorld there.

  • feb 15 1984 just missed it lol

  • ur lucky you got so much shit video games for such a low price

  • This game looks fun.
