He had all the time, access to the library and freedom of correspondence. All of that allowed him to obtain 3 different degrees during the imprisonment. Ironically, the imprisonment also kept him isolated from dirty internal politics of ZANU, provided him with a martyr aura and thus made him elected as ZANU leader in 1974.
There was a reason and there was an occasion. The occasion was "subversive speech", but the real reason was being a leader of ZANU, which was what we call now a "terrorist organisation" - they promoted violence and social unrest to create Lenin's "revolutionary situation" and to get in power on the wave of revolution. Which they finally did in 1980. But from beginning of 60s to beginning of 70s Rhodesia enjoyed comparative peace not least because most black nationalist leaders were imprisoned.

Ok Chigudo. I think we are both upset at the happenings in Zim. Both blacks and whites have done some bullshit.I was raised at Falcon College and played rugby at craven week against michaelhouse, Hilton college and other SA schools. Plus his scare tactics against foreign companies encouraged divestment and discouraged future investment in the Zimbabwean economy from abroad: effectively starving the economy of foreign currency. It doesn't have the resources.

Ok Chigudo. I think we are both upset at the happenings in Zim. Both blacks and whites have done some bullshit.I was raised at Falcon College and played rugby at craven week against michaelhouse, Hilton college and other SA schools. What I'm saying is that I grew up with whites and blacks and it was hard for me to see the guys in my dorm going through this farms issues. What I really want is a solution. Lets work to stop the hate and bring Zim back from the ashes. Together as equals we will win.

Not to sound cruel, but the handwriting wes on the wall well before the terrible events happened. Zimbabwe is not alone. Turmoil such as this is a repeated scenario throughout the world. One must stay vigilant regarding the future. Political climate changes do not occur overnight. One must begin to divest themselves of assets and formulate an escape plan at the first hint of trouble.

I would donate but only if the help was extended to all colours, black, white, mixed, indian etc. Poverty is not race based, poverty is poverty - PERIOD! If this was for everyone, I would donate and probably even give up my own time to help.

ok what I am saying is that there is help for the black people in Zimabawe(from organizations around the world) albeit it could be far more I know but there is NO HELP from the outside for the white people that need it... ours is not to judge but help those in need Black or white...and I do help the African comminity a lot but never realised till this trip back that there are actually white people that need help as well....

The British and western governments should not have put sanctions on Zimbabwe. This is why these problems are now occuring. They really don't care about the people of Zimbabwe. Western nations have deliberately destabalised Zimbabwe economically because they can't control President Mugabe. They are imperialist colonisers who have caused trouble in the past. Just look at what they have done in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Sweety, Western sanctions are targeted against a few of the highest ZANU-PF officials in the country. It's really sad that you've bought into ZANU-PF's lies and propoganda. The sanctions are totally ineffective at dealing with the situation, and they aren't even rigorously enforced (note that Mugabe's wife went on a shopping spree in Rome only a few weeks ago).

Oh, and another thing. The reason Zimbabwe is facing economic issues is because the Zimbabwean economy has always been based on an export-oriented agricultural sector. When Mugabe seized control of commercial farms, he destroyed the export-oriented agricultural sector. Plus his scare tactics against foreign companies encouraged divestment and discouraged future investment in the Zimbabwean economy from abroad: effectively starving the economy of foreign currency. It doesn't have the resources.

Is there somewhere in the UK where we can send unused pharmaceauticals? After watching this I felt terrible as I have quite an over flowing medical chest (the docs in UK tend to over medicate...) I would send them to contacts in Zim (I am ex Zim) but don't trust the postal system.
