  • Step 0: Put on some really cool Dire Straits....

  • Very nice cut! Thanks for sharing. Is the oil even needed at the start?

Perhaps after cutting you can make the edge(s) smooth with the flat side of the carbide.

  • @Gta2CubanPete Yes, the oil does seem to improve the reliability of the cut. Without it, the glass tends to "squeal" and ends up breaking. As for smoothing edges, much easier to use a flame to polish them.

  • Cool. Now what do you do with that rimless test tube?

  • @14goldmedals Nothing ;-) This was just a demo to show the technique.

  • yo what kind of lathe do you have? could i just get an attachment or use my something on my mini lathe to hold the downstem on my pipe for a cut

  • @mecriticalthinks It's just held in a normal 3-jaw with some masking tape to protect the glass. If your lathe has a chuck then it should be possible to hold it.

  • How did you did your torch?

  • @martinmateocasimiro7 If you follow the link in the video description, you will find details of the torch.

  • wow! such a nice cut!

  • what's on the chuck? masking tape?

  • @cubistuterus Yes, just to protect the glass tube. It could be wrapped in tape, or a layer of fiberglass mat, just so long as it isn't in direct contact with the metal chuck jaws.

  • nice technique.thnx
