You were too hard on Glen Beck. He plays an important part. You will get much of the credit for spearheading the effort once its all said and done, so try to leave you ego out of it by putting down people like Beck, Moore and Limbaugh, who play a small but important role in shaping the new paradigm. @Stepper11: You are correct that the very best plan is to become self-sufficient before the collapse. However, for anyone who decides not to take your most prudent approach, and who has more than a few thousand bucks in savings, is probably best served by holding his savings in gold and silver. Unless the system collapses super-quick, someone with gold and silver will be able to buy what really matters - your list of items. But also, we need equipment to generate water and food most of all.

Of course, if you have the resources the liquidity of prescious metals is very useful. My only point is that I, like many, do not have those resources. People in the financial shi++er, like myself, have to concentrate on the basics first and foremost.
