No matter what you think of Nixon's politics, he should stand as a reminder that anything is possible in America. He came from nowhere, was socially awkward, wasn't handsome or charismatic, lost to Kennedy, lost again in CA, and still made it to the White House and was re-elected in a landslide. It's too bad his personal demons took down his administration.
Richard M. Nixon (Republican) 31,785,480 301 43.4% 32 states won, Hubert H. Humphrey (Democrat) 31,275,166 191 42.7% 13 states won, George C. Wallace (American Independent) 9,906,473 46 13.5% 5 states won- Nixon may have lost if the election was held just won week later, Humphrey really was gaining momentum in the last month.
Nixon 2012. Ron Paul 2012. We need a strong president to fight the new hippies. Obama has appoints more dykes to judgeships then any previous President, and we know that dykes are incapable of objectivity. They want to abuse law to socially engineer.
Nixon was one of the best. The only thing he did wrong was issue the cover up, which, he was convinced to do by H.R. Haldeman who was the whole brains behind Watergate.
Had Dick finished his term of office, we may not have needed Reagan, but in the same sense I'm glad we had Reagan.
I tell you one thing,Richard M. Nixon is A LOT better than our current President. Just to be clear;I am a LIBERAL Democrat and I love Nixon very much.I have looked at his life and political career and he is amazing. May he rest in peace.
Nixon is such an enigma. He was, at the same time, both one of the best and worst Presidents in American history. He certainly was one of the Presidents with a great sense of history and deep knowledge of the world.
You said it precisely. Had he not lost his mind by covering up a third rate burglary in 1972, or if he got away with it (as is the case sometimes), he would have served two strong terms. Alas, Conrad Black's biography shows his 5 1/2 years were nevertheless a record of strong achievements (e.g. opening relations with China, the Environmental Protection Agency, ending the war in Vietnam, Soviet SALT treaties). He had the qualities of a president, and in the end, his legacy, mostly, is strong.

Gosh, if only we had a President who kept Paul Newman on his enemies list like Tricky Dick!

Nixon was going to be impeached by Republicans and Democrats. He was a lying thieving crook who pissed on the Constitution.

@help4343 I would rather be considered a "satist" than an idiot such as yourself. Grow up.

Nixon didn't know anything more about the, let's say, Adenese situation than the average college student did.
