There is no way that they are chipmunks because 1. Chipmunks are much smaller than the chipmunks in the cartoon and 2. All chipmunks have a tail but the ones in the cartoon don't. But still nice vid :)

The funny thing, about the shot at 5:23, is that if you pause and go through frame by frame, you'll see a shot in which Ellie is actually smiling a bit. It's as if she's secretly happy that Theodore is finally hitting on her a little. She turns away though because she rocks, and girls who rock (and roll) don't go for guys who act like that.
