Real critical thinking, the kind that compells somebody to act accordingly, develops ONLY in a loving environment. There are virtually no schools that do that. Think about alternative ways to teach children in a loving environment and you're on to something. Just saying: "well, lets teach them how to think critically" and to hope all will be dandy, is foolish. Many politicians in Washington had good schooling and learned to think critically, but they are still corrupt to the bone. No spine.
Teachers should show this the first day of classes every Fall... as a challenge to really learn everything up to and including critical thinking. That's my opinion. Probably why I'll never find work as a teacher :-)

This is so true!!!! I'm from Turkey, and the same shit happens there, too. It's not as bad as it is in the US but every passing day, we're losing more control of what is ours. Turkish journalists who speak the truth like george calin are getting fired and locked up.They even choose what politicians are put in power,and by they, i'm talking about the same people who own america. Sure, we have elections and shit but they're shows to make you think you're choosing whom you want.

Well said, but I only have one disagreement. If capitalism wasn't worth saving, we would have kicked it out a century ago. There would be no Progressive Era. But indeed, it was the middle class that still believed in capitalism, but the rules needed to be changed then.
We would be like some of the despotic powers in existence today, where only one man holds absolute power, or a few handfuls of men. If you are not that 'man', you're trash.

Real critical thinking, the kind that compells somebody to act accordingly, develops ONLY in a loving environment. There are virtually no schools that do that. Think about alternative ways to teach children in a loving environment and you're on to something. Just saying: "well, lets teach them how to think critically" and to hope all will be dandy, is foolish. Many politicians in Washington had good schooling and learned to think critically, but they are still corrupt to the bone. No spine.
