you cant beat the sound quality u get from an mpc5k not to meantion the built in hard drive, i have years worth of sounds i mine and dam the sequencer is the best and tightest ive ever used, and i have a motif xf but still it dont compare to the sequencer or sound that thing out puts. if you mix them up, build half the track on the mpc, track it to protools then get ur digital work flow going, ur onto a winner for sure. MPC5K is KING
nah its just better to have you're equipment there ya know like instead of needing to go use a computer, and you can plug it into shit easily, its for people that are really dedicted i guess, otherwise yeah other people should just use a computer, they are coming more and more like computers with the onscreen display getting more detailed
this looks like a computer... i dont see the point for paying hardware prices for software sounds VST and stuff, when computer programs can do the same thing for free
Dudeeeeee, because its live, and you can play it straight away and easy change the effects and dont sit at your computer dragging stuff and clicking stuff, for people that are really skilled with it they'd sound better playing one of these than sitting at a computer
@mikal20677 i get you :-) sorry.. this was before i realized all samplers are digital lol, i thought there was a magical button device that recorded programs through analog... im not so ignorant now sorry, it is much better than computer.. computers realy piss me off and give you head ache haha.. and i really want a sampler but not this one, something from the 90s,,, any names pop up to mind mate? im really looking for them old types that made Remarc type jungle back in 94! :D - Peaz n Rice x
@kragle2008 It's also about feeling. I'm sorry but just because you can get a piano sound on a keyboard or PC doesn't compare to playing a piano. I understand what you are saying about the digital sounds, but its the feel of the instrument, the velocity sensitive pads - the overall feel of it which you do not get with any form of software, free or not.
Finally I got my one last week. Didn't read the manual yet but I can already say:GREAT MACHINE.It works perfect with my midi setup and other sound devices.CHECK OUT THE TWO LATEST VIDEOS WITH MPC5000 ON MY ACCOUNT!!!
I have a 'Effects engine failed to load. Checksume 2 is Invalid' error on my 5000. This is after using the effects and causing a load buzzing sound which wouldnt stop. On boot up and even after trying to reset factoty settings i get the error message and no sound generated by the machine so it is useless. Does anyone know how to resolve this and is this toy just a really bad joke as im reading no-end of problems people have had with it? I want my thousand £££££'s bad Akai. Korg never let me down
HELP!!!!! How do i get more coordination with these thing I have mpd and i have absolutely no coordination the track is always off beat and when i do a 4 bar loop the last loop makes a skipping sound when its starting over how do i fix this
@RizzoAstronama Try using the quanize. Maybe get a feel for the beat you want- play it in real time in play mode and then maybe qauntize the first kick, maybe the second, then switch the quantize off and record the snare hits in real time (or even quantize them. Quatize by...erm, cant remember the names of the buttons. maybe you know already.

One of the probs with the MPC5K gettin' dissed so much is lames like this Mike guy trying to talk about it.I have one and wouldn't trade it or sell it for any amount of paper. To me it's priceless.I hear the 4000 is better or the 2500/2000 is better.I don't care because to me it's all he say-she say.The amount of shit I can do on the MPC5K is boundless.Just have to have an imagination and a good sense of rhythm. Some soul helps too !
Akai really let producers down by making the 5000 with only 44.1k/16 bit audio.
Especially when the 4000 has 24 bit & was made 5 years earlier!
That would be like Sony making a Playstation 4 that only worked in 64 bit (would you buy it?!)
EVERY type of sequencing software now works in 32 bit & 24 bit & I don't know ANY serious producer who still sequences in 16 bit in 2010 (obsolete technology).
I was interested in buying t his for my son but when we went to the store to take a look at it no one knew how to use it or give me any info on it.. Does anyone have any suggestions???
I love the MPC 5000. If your son likes to make beats, or record/produce music he'll understand and learn how to use it fairly easy. It's top of the line and really an amazing machine

@iio58 i do not understand where you are going with this.... shh
kragle2008 8 months ago
@kragle2008\
why is because this is a musical instrument
playing an instrument is an audio and kinesthetic experience
clicking a mouse is not
if you want to express a velocity on a snare you can do it intuitively
or by computer you can do it by clicking, down, select, open, alt+drag and then drag a graphic indicator envelope something yadda yadda
on pads you do it by actually HITTING the sound generation device
musical instrument vs. a computer
that's why
at least get a midi trigger
