  • I think it is funny when people always talking about the ash spill being so harmful... well you know i have work at the plants in oakridge and at tva . if you think this is so bad you must have no idea whats in oakridge.. there are places in oakridge that are so hot in radiation it makes this look like silly...pcb and mercury in the lake from oakridge from earlier times your lake fun was never good for you in the first place...so piss on you people that have no idea but think otherwise

  • I live like 15 min from here and i did not now this was this bad. The news didn't really do it's job here that looks way bigger than i expected.

  • drill baby drill and burn baby burn... just keep polluting your own backyard america.. your number 1 in the world in pollution, industrial, consumer... hey did anyone think of packing this shit up in containers and sending it to china for processing and then bringing back from china clean dirt. Maybe Haliburton is is watching, dick and bush the great white hope for an uneducated nation, US of A; united states of assholes

  • Talk about ruining my lake fun for the next ten+ years

  • clean coal anyone ?

    What a joke..

  • This is awful. I guess my retaining wall problems aren't that bad, Watch My Money Pit, parts 1-3.

  • When did this happen?

  • Back in 2008 in december .

  • If you're serous about your drinking water, you need to move.

That water is radioactive and probably highly contaminated.

  • Actually I see you posted this about five months ago anyway they have got the water taken care of and the ash itself is still underway of cleaning.

  • @eluviation coal is'nt radioactive.

  • @pokeyj37846

Coal is radioactive... It has Uranium in it.. Thats why the yearly background radiation is higher near coal power plants then surrounding area's.. Look it up... Coal has alot of heavy metals in it not just Uranium..

The water there is poisoned forever. This like Chernobyle on a smaller scale, coal isnt clean or safe.. In fact Nuclear power is alot safer and way way cleaner..

  • @pokeyj37846 Do you live on Earth? Here on Earth coal contains "uranium (U), thorium (Th) and their numerous decay products, including radium (Ra) and radon (Rn)." (Radioactive Elements in Coal and Fly Ash, USGS Factsheet)

  • I have a question!! I live near a "fly ash" resivor that is very large. Would someone PLEASE tell me why the watter is this color...Should I be concerned? I have a million reasons why the water is this color, but I am looking for the facts....LOCATION is where Pa. Oh. and Wv. all meat..the lake is called little blue. google it, let me know what you think...............

  • I lived near this location all my life.... Now for the color of the water, you might want to be on a look out for a 60 Minutes special on this very disaster,I dont know when it will air just yet. But I did just see a TV show called Crumbling America the other night and they had this fly ash spill on that show. They did mentioned that there are 100s of these fly ash ponds everywhere. They mentioned acid and other poisons from this spill...Watch out, America is Crumbling. .

  • I am so ticked off! I live in Tennessee so this is horrible for me. The TVA don't care about the wildlife, the families, the animals in the river. >:(

  • Your right they dont. I ive right by it. I live in kingston I pass this on the way to the highschoo everymorning. I go to school there lol

  • The legacy of deregulation, just one of many end results. Wind? Clean. Solar? Clean. Both easy to set up for one's home. Yet, virtually outlawed.

  • At least the top of that hill is clean.

Everyone knows now that Another of TVA's ponds burst early 2009, right? Yes, there are two of these messes in the south now. Good luck finding drinking water, ever again.

  • nuke power don't do that.

    And that ain't no 'pond'

  • Just awful. This should be the major clue to the country and congress that there really is no such thing as "clean coal."

  • americans cant do anything right

  • I wish people would say "no human injuries or fatalities reported." Surely there was loss of wildlife.

  • Clean Coal = Oxymoron

  • It was most likely a earth wall(dirt bank)with the recent rains in KY and TN, coupled with to much "slurry" the retainer collapsed, causing this massive flood of sludge.Might figure in the high temps as well, If the ground had been frozen,it might have been a stronger wall,I think this is what the TVA might find in its accident reports, only time will tell......

  • Mmmmm, clean coal technology. I look forward to burning coal at twice the current levels in the future as natural gas supplies start to dwindle.

  • So, who conceived, designed, engineered, approved, constructed, monitored and maintained this colossal waste heap?

TVA, the flood control specialists for Appalachia!

    Nice work.

  • Actually,This wall has been there as long as I can remember. I just so happened used to live there on that road. I used to have bad thoughts about that wall bursting long ago. Theres another wall that I used to think about as well...It runs run through downtown Kingston, matter of fact the High School is built next to it. I used to imagine that busting open when I was in school.. Strange 30 years later one of them did break. These are old levees...sorta like New Orleans

  • I think about that too I am in highschool at roane county high or kingstom hogh which everone you wanna call it. i just got my car ia m 16 i hope it doesnt break

  • Thanks for posting. This is a good video - the ash was so deep it wrecked a train and everything

This video really shows the failed impoundment - dang it looks like at least half of that thing slid into the river - miraculous that no one was killed
