Why are DMB and UM being compared? The only thing in common is fan loyalty. DMB is hardly a jam band. Their songs may differ slightly from one year to the next, but every show within that year is the same. DMB plays good music scores, where UM jams.

I wouldn't necessarily say that. They are more jazz fusion oriented. They have a few good songs, but you have to agree some of them sound like absolute shit. Mainly the songs they consider "fusion" end up sucking. A few ugly notes here and there add character, but when they come measure after measure and song after song it gets pretty damn old and monotonous.

Well it is hard to make an argument over who's better in the jam world ill give my personal opinion. I honestly think moe. is the best and most complete jam band out there today. Not only can rob chuck and Al all play their instruments extremley well, but they all do a great job singing. I really like bisco and Umph is a close second for me behind moe. The lack of greatness in the vocals puts them behind ever though it is 'jam'. Not only that but the lyrics in the songs are second to none.

as for talent umphrey's takes the cake. moe. is a good tight band but they are definantly not the best as far as technique and skill level but still a good band no less. ill have to say that their singing is better but not their instrumentation. Umphrey's is the most technical band out there no doubt.

I think that as far as jam bands go, there is no clear-cut best. We can sit all day and give completely valid reasons why X band is better than Y band, but in the end it doesn't even matter. Some people may think bisco is the best because they dig that, some people may think dead is the best, some may think umphrey's is the best, but it's all jam and it's all amazing

Hey anybody who thinks Moe. is better is wrong in my opinion. I've seen them both play and Umphrey's maintains a direction and focus not found in "jam bands" like Moe. and Phish. Don't get me wrong these bands are amazing but if we're comparing jam bands to jazz greats such as Coltrane and Miles Umph has them beat because of their progressive, evolving, almost an Obsessive Compulsive approach to their music. It's what makes guys like Scofield and Umph BETTER than Moe. and Phish.
