'tight' fore legs over the jump. trotting, they're legs need to look about to touch each other on the same side. they need to cover alot of ground, without useing alot of energy.

jumpers is more fun. I did hunter jumper for 4 years and it was really boring but i did it cause it was good for the rider. Then I started jumpers 3 years ago and I'm never going back! its the best sport ever.

this summer was my first year showing, and i did hunters. i liked it, but it was boring always doing the same course. im switching to jumpers this year, so i would say that i like jumpers better, but i havent shown in jumpers yet :)

I think the best horse is one that was started dressage up to 2nd or 3rd level, introduced to jumping in the green hunter classes, and brought up through the levels of jumpers into possibly grand prix success depending on the horse's raw talent and the rider's ability.

i'm not sure but i think i made a comment on this video quite some time ago say the jumpers beat hunters hands down. but as i personally have dabled more in hunter training, i have now come to the conclusion that both are tons of fun.

i completely agree with KillerQueenRalphe. are you kidding me? eventing is THE most dangerous horse sport. your horse has to be fine tuned to be elegant enough for dressage, powerful/ strong enough for cross country and precise enough for show jumping so don't be dissing eventers.

I do both and eq. but i honestly prefer jumpers:). because of the high jumps. i like going fast:). and everything else that goes with it. hunters is kind of boring to me:/ im not saying i dont like it but. i am a jumper:) not a hunter.

I honestly prefer jumpers to hunters. Yeah hunters look prettier but it also takes the excitement out of jumping since the jumps are usually under four feet and its at a collected controlled canter.

i'm not going to kill you over it but hunters is more of a medium working canter and have you ever heard of hunter derbys? they're newer on the circuit and the jumps are 4ft and there are a bunch of tests the riders have to do...check it out there are videos of them here on youtube

azm150 in some ways thats true but in others its not hunters still work crazy hard and have stiff competitors, they can lose because they messed up a spot or one lead wasn't dead on. but yes Jumpers is all about speed getting over the jump and fast! competitoino is stiff for jumpers as well and taking a risk can cost u the win. i love both so don't come back at me. just saying think before u say something stupid

i am a show jumper all the way. i mean people think it is all about going fast but it is not. first u have 2 make through the 1st round without a rail down. then comes the jump off. which is having control over your horse not just letting it run. ALso looking good is an important part to in show jumping. I mean u dont c any grand prix rider looking sloppy. it takes a long time to become a GOOD show jumper

NO there is NO equitation involved whatsoever in hunters. Yes, I know- it's not easy! I just returned from a show of eq+hunters and i ruined it for my horse. But- You can put A five year old with her hands n the air and her heels flying all over-aslong as she gets the striding and distances, SHE is fine. the horse must use extra effort. there is no equitation in hunters. Sheesh

I was talking about hunters. There is no classes, well atleast classes My Students have rode in, that is judged on the horse's hunter form, and the riders Eq. Theres just hunter=horses, Equitation=riders. Maybe in Schooling shows, but schooling shows arent USEF rated. So, there is no RATED/REAL division with hunter+eq. I've showed for 13yrs now, and trained for 2yrs. Please, i do not want "correction"

O' good gosh! People both Hunter and Jumper courses are diffuclt, in Jumpers you have to have speed, agility, and timing, especially heart. In hunters you have to have grace and strides and heart. I love hunters because its graceful and beautiful to watch. The higher you get in hunters ther more diffulct it is to do. Because you don't want to run at the jumps you want to be perfect. Try jumping 3'3 at a nice collected canter. Think about that.

I think JUMPERS have a better Seat and control of their horses , not saying hunters are bad it's just that well when you stay in half seat the whole time you cant brace yourself for a refusale or a run out. and usually the hunter horses are more calm and relax so they are a bit easyer to ride than jumpers . SO in conclusison the jumpers got more control and riding skills while the hunters have more eligance :3

the refusal thing isn't always true i have seen alot who can't handle it but tht's why i got in shape so i could move my weight the correct way for any of tht i do almost every sport known to riding and i break my own horses, trust if you ride IN SHAPE you can out do any of the bucking refusals and such but i respect your answer you just arn't a hunter person.

.MOST jumper horses are stallions of course they are going to be fast as hell and so of course they have to pull on them to get them balanced and get the right striding.and the jumper courses are a MILLION times harder than hunter courses. there is no patern it's all about timimg and so they try to find the fastes way to get to the jump while they are racing against the clock .you have to have real skill to do that ! so dont diss somthing you cant do
