People need to realise that they're boxing for mma, it's totally different. All the beautiful subtleties and nuances of professional boxing are nowhere near as effective in MMA. Also the concept of 'dirty boxing' is very real and is something we train for. You guys don't always need to argue about which sport is better, although it is the boxers who tend to have the chip on their shoulders. Respect to all combat athletes, we're in unforgiving sports.
@PhiIDavis if there was anybody in the HW division that actually knew how to box like nick diaz that person would KO JDS no doubt, jds is far from the best hands, being powerful as jds may be doesn't mean his technique is as precise as nick diaz, not to mention everybody in the HW division has terrible boxing.

He's got a good set of skills for an mma fighter, no doubt. But his boxing isn't "sick". He telegraphs his right hand, can't slip, crosses his feet, he constantly puts his head in front of his lead foot, etc. etc. and he doesn't have anywhere near the athleticism of someone like Roy Jones to pull it off.

I can't claim that he has amazing boxing in the ring since I've never seen it, you're absolutely right... but the transition from mma to boxing is way easier then going the other way around, and he trains with some greats (ward, espinosa). To be honest it was a great call by the Gracie camp for Nick's career, either way boxing or MMA he will be making more money after that announcement.

the difference between the 2 is that Nick has better footwork and is usually in the right position to keep a combo going. Nate ater 2 or 3 punches has to reset because his legs have closed together

About him sparring with Ward.. yeah, I heard the same thing. That is a sparring session I'd actually like to see. I just don't understand how all of these people can go on and on about how great Nick's boxing is when there is no evidence to back it up.
Quite frankly I hope everyone does buy into it and he somehow gets a sanctioned bout against Martinez (and not a washed-up Lacy). Nick will get his payday, Maravilla get's another KO. Win win for everyone.

@kyleinaction Nicks hands are great. he picks people apart. He just doesn't block alot or dodge, and that's mainly cause he's attacking most of the time. It's more like his own style of boxing rather than just boxing.

How come every video I see of this kid boxing is always prefaced by "after a long workout" or "just messing around" blah blah.
Let's face it, his "stand-up" (whatever the fuck that is) works for mma because he keeps people hesitant thinking about his remarkable bjj skills. He won't have that mental advantage in the ring, and his chicken-arms are going to cause his liver to take a ton of damage.

@chodachampion That's exactly what I meant. As good as he is on his feet, he's much more talented on the ground, which is why guys who shouldn't stand with him do. He's got a good set of skills for an mma fighter, no doubt. But his boxing isn't "sick". He telegraphs his right hand, can't slip, crosses his feet, he constantly puts his head in front of his lead foot, etc. etc. and he doesn't have anywhere near the athleticism of someone like Roy Jones to pull it off.

We've never seen him fight a real boxer (KJ was not a real boxer; KJ got worked each time his opponent wasn't a complete can), yet you say he has sick boxing skills? As evidenced by what? All of the fights he's had with non-boxers?

@kyleinaction Boxing in MMA is obviously different, we both know this. I can't claim that he has amazing boxing in the ring since I've never seen it, you're absolutely right... but the transition from mma to boxing is way easier then going the other way around, and he trains with some greats (ward, espinosa). To be honest it was a great call by the Gracie camp for Nick's career, either way boxing or MMA he will be making more money after that announcement.

As evidenced by what? The 0 mma fighters who have made a successful transition? Only two successful boxers have tried to switch over (Toney and Mercer), and both times it was for a "past-my-prime payday". And regardless, Mercer won his bout with Sylvia.

When I spar kick-boxing we guys use varation of sparring, sometimes we go 100%. Sometimes we go 50%, to catch up with the tecnique and rythme, instead if you meet someone who is superior you will easily get ass-whopped. And if you really are a boxer you would understand this.

the difference between the 2 is that Nick has better footwork and is usually in the right position to keep a combo going. Nate ater 2 or 3 punches has to reset because his legs have closed together
