Yeah...It sort of does. As in, only some concepts. The people who worked in the Opera Populair WERE coming to take him away. And he was, technically, insane. It was never really diagnosed, but if you read the book you'll see. And either way, in many version of the Phantom (such as the first movie version, a silent film) the public do "take him away". Technically they kill him, but either way...

@balletluve Yes, but it was from operas invented specifically for the show. Don Juan Triumphant and Hannibal don't actually exist as operas, though there is a Hannibal the Musical. For a show to have opera in it is an entirely different ball game from actually being an opera. I see how some people get confused about it though, since it is mostly sung. Hmmm... Mostly sung, but with some dialogue... I suppose in actuality that would make it a sort of pop-rock operetta more than a musical.
