  • Amazing. So much feel in his playing.

Much better than this faggotry of following the tabs. So what if you don't actually know the parts ? Be glad you can keep up... unless you use a pick, that's cheating.

  • @Dennemark Unless you're Tom Araya.

  • is it just me or if you put a beard on him he looks just like jesus...

  • @riley8377 how do u know what jesus looked like?

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MASTER OF BASS!!! Hope Jesus enjoys your bass lessons...

  • I once heard someone say if this track was a prison inmate, It would be Bubba the big black dude who rapes you in the shower! XD Happy Birthday Cliff! You are truly a living god!

  • sounds great!

  • Obey your master!!!!

  • @ metfan4l Can you upload Cliff iso track of The Four Horseman?

That song has the sickest bassline of the early Met songs IMHO

  • The TABS are WRONG! They sound nothing like this! He didn't play the classical thing on the main intro riff, aka 01/2/01/3/01/4 etc etc, he played something different can't figure it out xD :D

  • @10laughungtears it's wayyyyyyyy easier. Watch my master of puppets video cover on bass. It goes 01/2/0000000/2 over and over. it's really simple.

  • @LiberalDeathMachine Yeah, the tabs just follow the guitar!

  • @10laughungtears Well I don't really blame them honestly. It wasn't until 3 years ago when guitar Hero Metallica was made available. Cliff's bass is mostly inaudible on the album. I'd like to hear the Damage Inc Bass track, but I don't think that will ever be made available. Metallica should allow all of their albums to be DLC but MOP would be a rip off because 6 of the 8 songs already appear on GH Metallica

  • @LiberalDeathMachine Yeah, I prefer to play the bass line as it's in the original than just follow the guitar. This way bass is more unique and more fun to play. :)

  • @10laughungtears Yeah, I hate mimicking the guitar track the whole time. it's boring

  • @LiberalDeathMachine Indeed it is. :D

  • @10laughungtears Cliff Burton, who played the Original Bass Track of Master of Puppets did this wrong? This, the Original Bass Track of Master of Puppets? -.-

  • @Mr7Mtl You don't get it. THE TAB is wrong, not this. /facepalm.

  • @10laughungtears Oh, sorry.

  • @10laughungtears Cliff, the man who wrote this bass line, played it wrong... What?

  • how many fingers he had?

  • where did you get this?

  • heeey, i played Master Of Puppets with the bass and survived¡¡

  • The Holy Cliffs fingers. Especially the middle one. :-)))

  • rip cliff was the guy that inspired me to start playing bass

  • You're hearing his strings clack around because he used his fingers and the tone knob up, and roundwound strings. Bass guitars aren't exactly a refined musical instrument of their own, they're a modified electric guitar made to play basslines on. Using your fingers to play one was originally a motown thing. They were designed with using a pick in mind, hence the positioning of the handrests on the early Fender models... they also originally used flatwound strings, which don't buzz like rounds.

  • @thenewyorkpauls hey man guitars were meant to be played with fingers too but pick is an alternative option, but its been so overused that its the common right way 2 play, i like fingers better gives u more vaerity i think, pick just makes more metal

  • I can play this song on bass but @ 6:20 its tough!

  • Why Cliff hated clean bass sound so much?

  • I tried to play this song /watch?v=n2D5aG2562s

  • shit in pants from 6:20

  • I'm trying to learn this. It's not going too well...

  • @XxSpyyx Believe in yourself!

  • @XxSpyyx YOU CAN DO IT THE POWER OF CLIFF IS WITH YOU!

  • Cliff Em All

  • I love how people say Cliff sounds sloppy. You do realize this is thrash metal, which has huge punk influences, right? If it were all clean and well produced it would no longer be thrash, it would be that awful numetal shit that MetalicA plays today.

  • @t351cj Cool story, Clifford "T.I." Harris.

  • how weird i went to new tabs and searched the master of puppets drums" guitar" vocals" and bass and i made as the original song :D

  • When you think Cliff sounds sloppy, just remember he's using two fingers and playing with the best rhythm guitarist in heavy metal.

  • @VideoMask93 Cliff used 3 to 4 fingers at times

  • @RatRaceTV Joel McIver's biography says he only used two...

  • Comment removed

  • @RatRaceTV how the fuck did he use 4 fingers? he only had five and he never played with his pinky!

  • @horror4ever1997 Even james hetfield said he sometimes played with his pinky

  • @RatRaceTV do you mean his left or right hand? becouse it is impossible to hit a string with your right hand!!

  • @horror4ever1997 I dont knwo iv seen him use his pinky in videos before and I can use my pinky to. Its not very hard

  • @RatRaceTV maybe... but my friend (he have a band with a great bassist) told me that you have to have a thing that makes every hit on the string sound more... Sorry for my bad english. not the best i know ç.ç

  • @horror4ever1997 Hahahaha I just use 4 at times. I'm a thrash bassist and I try to use 3 most of the time

  • @RatRaceTV Wait, how could he have used his pinky? He couldn't even move his right pinky; that's why it always stuck straight out when he played!

  • @VideoMask93 He used it SOMETIMES Not every day

  • @RatRaceTV But again, he couldn't move it!

  • @VideoMask93 All fuckin well man give it up

  • @horror4ever1997 i think there was something wrong with his pinky, fishing accident, broken tendon, or sth like that

  • @VideoMask93 which means, the more fingers you use,the less sloppier you become right?

  • @Megatallicalideth Depends. Geddy Lee is a machine and he's used one finger since the '90s. And again, anybody looks sloppy compared to James.

  • People who say that cliffs playing is sloppy, than why the fuck are you listen to his bass track?

  • don't forget, metallica changed their city for Cliff Burton

  • Thanks for uploading this. It's great to hear what Burton was playing.

  • Ingnore Joshie's gay ass.. srsly what king of a name is joshie.... I bet you like to suck a lot of dick faggot....

  • @spaztek72 Oh so sorry! I didn't mean to compare two mediocre bassists to each other. Please forgive me.

Cliff wasn't that good. If he didn't die in that wreck, he would be just another average metal bassist, but with a terrible tone.

  • @joshie4330 Average lol I don't see you making some of the most epic albums on earth you cunt

  • @joshie4330 Are you serious? You clearly don't know anything of Cliff's enormous contributions to Metallica. He had musical skill and knowledge beyond anything that Metallica had at the time. Just listen to Orion, which is almost entirely his composition, and compare it to, say, Motorbreath, Trapped Under Ice, or Hit the Lights.

Bet you won't care, because you're already set in your ways. Sad.

  • 26 no me gustan??? q tendran en la cabeza esos imbesiles

  • He was good, but he's drastically overrated due to his untimely death. Jason is ten times the bassist Cliff was....and his tone isn't horribly muddy either. I can't imagine how good old Metallica albums would be had he cleaned up and tightened the tone a bit.

  • @joshie4330 You are a fucking faggot for even comparing Cliff to Jason.

  • i find bass tracks boring as hell... but cliff makes them exiting, the ppl who think he is overrated are fkn retards

  • @roketfingers calm down ;]

  • @roketfingers yeh but nobody thinks cliff is overrated lol. Only the ignorant people who dont appreciate him as a musician. yeah there are people who can play as well as him when they have years of free time and tabs infront of their face, but to write such genius music in just a few years with the top quality ability to play is second to none (as of yet).

  • The tone is sweet....but the playing itself sounds pretty sloppy......hard to believe this is Cliff.

  • @Fjarod32 It sounds a bit sloppy because these fast riffs are played with fingers (!) and back in 1985 no band used to fix tracks with computers after recording, so, in my opinion, it's still pure music. Also, with drums, it wouldn't sound sloppy at all. Just listen to his staccatos (slow part), that requires a lot of skill!

  • @Fjarod32 Cliff's sound was sloppy because he picked between de neck and the bridge pickup, and when picking that hard you get a sloppy sound. He plays so hard that even if he would play between de bridge pickup and the bridge is still stounds sloppy. Well atleast I have that problem.

Sloppy sound is most of the time created by picking really hard.

  • I love how it just sounds like a truck riding in or something when it's solo time. He knows the right spots to lock in with drums.

  • no shit

  • my speakers just blew.....o_O

  • @TheFreak160 that's cause Cliff was beast at bass

  • I came here hoping to read comments on how a great player cliff was n all i see kids whining the same mega vs meta and meta sell out stuff.....ANYWAY did he use distortion on his bass?

  • @FlyinVJs30RR for normal stuff like this? i believe its just natural distortion and have his mids up so he gets a really clanky and murky sound out of his bass.

  • @ScooterAndOtis oh..thx man im no bass player but i wanna get the same sound for a song my band is doin..thx man

  • @FlyinVJs30RR do you know how to get natural distortion?

  • @ScooterAndOtis I assume my bass player knows..but i`ve DS1 whenever I play it..naturally? no idea

  • @FlyinVJs30RR natural distortion is caused from high volume on the amp or source of the sound. cliff took this from lemmy of motorhead i assume. so just tell your bassist to turn his mids up and his volume to get natural distortion. if he cant play loud, dont worry. the lack of natural distortion isnt a huge deal

  • @ScooterAndOtis ok thx man it did help!!..thx alot dude

  • @FlyinVJs30RR no problem

  • Cliff was the "MASTER" of Chuck Norris

  • Blan blan blan blan blan blan Blan blan blan blan blan blan Blan blan blan blan blan blan Blan blan blan blan blan blan Blan blan blan blan blan blan Blan blan blan blan blan blan Blan blan blan blan blan blan Blan blan blan blan blan blan Blan blan blan blan blan blan Blan blan blan blan blan blan Blan blan blan blan blan blan Blan blan blan blan blan blan Blan blan blan blan blan blan Blan blan blan blan blan blan Blan blan blan blan blan blan Blan blan blan blan blan blan Blan b Blan blan

  • If this bass line were a prisoner it would be Bubba the big ass black dude that rapes you in the shower!!!

  • @expressingmyopinions fuckin asshole

  • beast

  • well... I'll say one thing... If Cliff were alive today, Metallica would not be writing the garbage they have been for the last 15+ yrs... Just saying...

  • @GhettoGinny Death Magnetic is pretty awesome

  • @GhettoGinny I personally think Cliff would have left Metallica. He was just too differently music wise. He enjoyed country and southern rock like Lynyrd Skynyrd and ZZ Tops, plus classical.

  • @GhettoGinny so agree with you man. After Cliff died, all the multi layered, almost classical influenced songs disappeared.........they tried with And Justice For All I guess...but after that it's all garbage.

  • @kilsmudge

The Black Album is a great stadium rock record. You can't really compare to their 80's stuff, since the style's just so different. Load and Reload each had a handful of good songs, but the rest was mediocre. St. Anger was ass, and Death Magnetic was mediocre through and through.

  • @VegitoVai90 The Black Album is about as good as Death Magnetic to me.......I'm a HUGE fan of early Metallica. In fact I don't own anything past ANd Justice haha. Thumbs up to them for trying with Death Magnetic though, You're right ST. Anger was an ass album, I mean what the hell were they thinking taking off solos, and what the hell is with that snare??!! lol!

  • @kilsmudge Not sure, but he may have use a piccolo snare.

  • @GhettoGinny I'd say that your probably right, Cliff was extremely influential on the band also because of his knowledge of theory.

  • What a fucking genius R.I.P. with the rock legends

  • @SlipknotPaul1237 y u sayin RIP legends never die ;) :)

  • love it

  • sounds distorted

  • 0:30 a clusterfuck in musical form

  • 0:30 a clusterfuck in musical form

  • THUMBS UP if the beginning remind you MARIO BROS

  • master of muppets??

  • Pretty good, guitars are harder though on MoP. Alot.

  • if cliff would still alive we wouldnt have enter sandman fuel sad but true and other cool metallica songs like that but i would make that sacrifice for him why best people in the world die? look at the photo i dont know him well but i could say he was a calm guy and didnt make problem his soul was pure R.I.P cliff i will never forget you even if i never stand in front of you.

  • @elchichodeltren Those Metallica songs aren't cool. If Metallica stayed the way they were then mabye those songs would be cool.

  • @KISSAceGenePaulPete1 dude dint you see metallica enter sandman live at moscu or in destruction scene well its not the best song for me but people mostly like it very much

  • for this he became a bass legend?

  • @IMBACHABRI Not that. Look at all his other work, Orion, Anesthesia, Call of Ktulu, Seek and Destroy and others. If you understood you'd respect him way more..

  • @IMBACHABRI No, Anesthesia is what made him a legend. come on, first album and they put that on there? thats pretty fucking amazing if u ask me.

  • @IMBACHABRI This among other things.

  • @IMBACHABRI nah listen to his solos. Listen to his last bass solo from Sweden 26/09/86!

  • ONE M0:00RE TIME!!!

  • God has taken from Earth Jimi Hendrix and Cliff Burton, just to have the best guitar and bass players in the universe in his band.

  • i would kill my self JUST to go visit cliff burton in hell, why do i think hes in hell? i think god might have gotten jealous of cliffs awesomeness and couldnt stand to have someone as awesome as cliff with him in heaven, thus he got sent to hell .__.

  • 20 people try to be the master but they failed and became puppets

  • Cliff's favorite!!!

  • Deluso.

  • God took Cliff away because he was jealous of him after this album.

  • Sounds real "bassy" i wish i came up with it first.

  • out of the bass tones from kill em all to master of puppets I think this one is the best

  • why is everyone saying sloppy tone. i love this tone.

  • @mrsatanicbassist Yeah, me too. And besides, it isn't "sloppy." He just has his gain turned up real high.

  • I actually play guitar, but thanks to Cliff Burton I also got interrested in the bass! :D

  • not cliff playing that at all...if you listen to the album you can hear nuances in that that you do not hear in this...such as certain slides etc...but nice try at however is playing this ;O)

  • @belial1974 man,you don't even believe that cliff played this,huh?

  • @belial1974 Lol'd hard :) Think before writing next time.

  • @belial1974 - "not cliff playing that at all..." That is Cliff playing that. This bass track comes from Guitar Hero: Metallica.

  • @NejiHyuga900

they are record by session musician's ,they wont put the real masters on there because of stuff like this.

  • All of you guys are not using your brain. For one, cliff studied classical music and probably taught lessons like Randy Rhoads. The reason why the bass sounds so sloppy is because think about his equipment back then. I'm sure if Cliff had the options that are available today through endorsements, his sound would be untouchable!!! If Cliff wouldn't have died, he probably would have got a ton of endorsements like the rest of Metallica did.

  • @termite98th see, i for one like the dirty sound. it makes it all the more real

  • I'm sure it's not cliff...His playing is not so sloppy and shitty.

  • @MTH6669 This is Cliff and this is in fact not sloppy or shitty, it is just the tone that is making you think so. Almost every bass track you hear by itself is going to sound sound like shit because it's being played with no instruments to back it up with important effects to sustain it's life. Now if the bass had any effects on it that would add life to it, it would sound amazing, but this is just coming from a dead ass amp. Just justifying his "shitty sound"

  • @SuperChamona Don't get me wrong, Cliff was a great player. But this is kind of sloppy time-wise.

  • @Cambria2112 cause this song is shitty to play with fingers, you need a pick or else its sloppy

  • @Mohamed636 I gotta disagree, this song is fit for fingers. It'd be a bit of a challenge to go up and down those strings in the intro and that post-solo riff with a pick.

  • @Cambria2112 It is not Cliff- for Shure.

  • @Cambria2112 Well, when you lock in with Lars Ulrich of all people, how do you expect you're gonna sound time-wise? Lol...

  • @MTH6669 you play it then mister proffesional!

  • its fun to play guitar with this

  • This sounds so dirty and loud. In a bad way.

  • @SgtZaqq Because it's thrash metal bass, it's supposed to sound like that.

  • @10laughungtears nice argument. But it really sounds like he is playing with a pick... I like David Ellefson's sound in Megadeth, he's playing with a pick and his sound is dirty and sharp.

  • @10laughungtears Is it supposed to sound (dirty and loud) in a bad way?

  • Seriously? Kill the bus driver for an accident? Not like the dude did it on purpose people. I hope none of you ever hurt a loved one or a stranger in a car accident,

cuz these kind of comments will haunt you...

  • @phospodar I agree. Some people are just dumb.

  • Why don't we just give him ALL the pop artists in the world. With cliff alive WHO WOULD CARE RIGHT? That's an offer he can't refuse!

  • god cliff is the bass god!

  • you can really hear the mid on his rickenbacker

  • @Akshaysic i think its from the guitar hero metallica tracks

  • I always thought Cliff mirrored the main riff. Still great though

  • How do you make such a video? I mean, where do you find only the bass track? Or is this just someone covering it on their bass? Sorry, if I sound like a noob.

  • Rob: God, Jason: God, Cliff:somewhat better than God, BUT: we shall not forget that all these guys kept Metallica up, reaching what the band is today (awesome). Respect them all...

  • @Zip2461996 Rob's work with Metallica: terrible. Jason's work with Metallica: terrible. Cliff's work with Metallica: overrated and weak at best; beyond terrible. This tone, as well as the lack of any basslines that aren't just following the guitars, just proves that Cliff was a talentless hack. I only refer to this vid to show people just how weak his technique was.

  • @PianoWireAbortion Not sure he was a hack. The style of music called for a certain tone, and a certain 'framework' for the basslines. If he had been wanking off doing fills every bar and playing counter melodies...it would have weakened the effect of powerful set of riffs. I mean, look at classical music - in certain parts, ALL the instruments are locked into the same notes - it's all about dynamics.

  • @PianoWireAbortion man fuck off you dont know anything about playing bass or good bass playing techniques!

  • @PianoWireAbortion You can go fuck yourself.

  • @zorskel98 Nah. Rob is just as good, just in a different way then Cliff.

  • @bankaibuddy15 Yeah, You´re right there.
