I'm glad to know Delft and to have seen some Vermeer in Holland and Paris. In Delft there is no one of his works, but there is his tomb, at the Old Church.
It is Mozart's Sonata K331, 1st Movement, theme and variations. They sound, however, more like variations on a theme of Mozart's variations on a theme.
I'm sorry, but I don't know the name of the sonata. It is a music track which comes as part of an editing package. Sorry to take some of the mystery away.
Agreed. Some people say he "cheated" by using a camera obscura. That's lile saying someone cheated by using a brush. Even the best tools require genius to make them work.
Mine too. Never heard of him until I visted the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Sorry the images are so small. I will be posting a high resolution version of this on Google video in themonths to come. Notice in this video how Vermeer and his contemporaries were so similar in some ways-yet each had their own personal signature such as Jan Steen with his houses of celebration and bedlam. Glad you enjoyed it.

Vermeer was a splendid artist who never had the recognition he deserved

Vermeer painted lots of things from images in his mind! so some of these paintings do not depict an actual event or person.

one good thing about this pre-industrial agricultural world was no skyscrapers blocking the sun and sky!

Vermeer is God!
acerb45666555 4 years ago
Or at the very least, he painted as if he were touched by God's hand.

his photographic style amazes me. i know he used a few art tricks! but who cares. the results are immaculate!

Thanks for posting. Let's hope that they find The Concert (around 0.59 to 1:05 in this video) that was stolen in 1990 in Boston and never seen since.
