A lot of the time, paintings like these are more creepy than beautiful, but these are a harshly realistic and indescribably perfect mixture of both. He has a new fan.
You know, I used to wonder if Mark Ryden's brilliant art was paedophic, but I watched a number of videos of his art, and came to the conclusion that it was anti-paedophilic. It's packed with metaphors, I think. I also wonder if he had an abusive childhood. It's magnificent work, and he obviously sees life in a different way to most of us. His art is amazing.
he looks like mad evil doctor no a mortician he wants to put a brain in that jaror its missing even abe looks creepy but artists arnt normal or so im told ,,im manic
seems like being dark and gloomy is the trend nowadays, find that kind of sad although I don't deny the fact that he got talent, just wish i could find some artists who want to bring smiles on people's faces.
@Kaede069 I think his paintings are ment to encourage deeper thought behind their meaning, to actually get us to think about it, rather than some happy funny painting were you just glance at it and smile, but that's it.
I do think that you are right though, why is being gloomy so trendy?
I don't understand why anyone would find these disturbing. It's just a bunch of trendy neo-gothic pop-infused images. Ryden is trying to be edgy or "dark" by adding blood to create a kind of morbid atmosphere. If it wasn't so deliberate, his art would be more interesting.
what the hell ar u on honest abe get ur presidents right ''''''''i would love to vomit on gwb the world would give a standing ovation or a least throw a shoe at him /====
the drawings are $4,000-$24,000 each depending on the size. (the smallest being 4x5) that is if you get them at the show directly (which is rare, because waiting lists fill up) but after market they are insane. Paintings are $5,000 for the smallest one and up to $800.000-$1.5 million for the largest. but just search around
and this is the price ranges for Ryden's works. there are so many others though like him that are cheaper and not that well known like Delphia, or others.
@sovsekande you guys crack me up really im new to this the internet yes i was on earth i just decided i didnt like it //i lost my mum 14 months ago and this is the 1st rael laugh ive had o now im going to cry shit ;o wellmmmm
I just came across his work yesterday when I saw his book "The Tree Show", the painting of Yoshi is awesome. Any idea if reproductions are sold anywhere? Even just printed posters?
thank you for doing a reel on Ryden-his work is beautiful, it has a sense of humor, innocence and creepiness to it, his work is amazing...thanks again
Oh, so you're an artist, eh? Well, then. Oil painted anime cartoon? Do you even know what anime is? This is neither anime nor a cartoon. It's just a video slideshow of Mark Ryden paintings. Not too hard to understand, especially for an "artist" like you.
I with Mburbey on this one... it doesn't even come close to looking like Anime. And the fact that you come out saying your an "artist" makes your comment even less credible in my eyes as the most talented and educated artist i have ever met are quite modest most of the time.
a great breakthrough in artwork for blood lusting pedophiles, anti-capitalism, and smoked fetus pork loins. I'm sure Charlie Manson would be proud .. or scarier, the middle class perverts on here that "enjoy" these scenes. Eye candy for the perverted is not art.
A Brilliant montage tribute to Mark Ryden's art...adore the music you chose to accompany the art and the tempo of the art slides....perfect! Thanks for sharing.

An artistic expression of warped innocence, very much like Tim Burtons Alice in Wonderland. The tree eating the girl was hilarious.

Main Entry: fine art
Function: noun
Date: 1739
1 a: art (as painting, sculpture, or music) concerned primarily with the creation of beautiful objects —usually used in plural b: objects of fine art
2: an activity requiring a fine skill
I'd say it counts then.
