  • Nice hat mate, Akubra make a good hat. They are probably the most famous from here but there are some pretty other awesome hats made in Aus too. I use a Statesman and love it. I chose it in preference to the akubras I tried on.

  • Pin the flat

  • Hey Buddy, If you wan't to wear it as the Australian Army do you slant it forward with the chin strap on. You may either iron the brim flat or hook it up. (It is ussaully hooked up for drill)

  • I also own one of the these hats for the rarity of them in Texas, Im from near Nacogdoches. Looks good sir.

  • Well done mate. Suits you.

  • you puggaree is the wrong one

  • LEGEND

  • I wear an Akubra Aussie military hat when I shoot. I go every Saturday morning. You are right, nobody ever wears these in South texas (I live in San Antonio). I took the puggaree off because bullet residue would have dirtied it. I replaced it with a leather hat band. This weekend I took the flap down and straightened out the brim. I will then put dips front and back. Interestingly, that's how many ANZACs wore those hats on the Kokoda trail in Burma during WWII.

  • Lookn' dapper!!

  • Looks pretty cool!

  • Lookin Pretty Stylin

  • the original reason for the brim was so it was easier to shoulder arm with the .303 rifle. your pugaree is incorrect, the bash is wrong, the slouch curved brimm isnt even fixed to the hat, theres no corps badging. as an ex- australian army soldier this is kind of annoying to see it gotten so wrong, let alone publishing it on the net. please do some study.

  • Can you easily get an Aussie Slouch hat not even going to Australia? I think they're pretty cool and I want one! Thanks.

  • I love you... you are a legend... nice hats btw!

  • @VoodooLongboards As a "legendary" ofd fart, I thank you. Be careful on that roller board. But then back in the day I did crazy stuff like you guys, but without all the safety gear. One step ahead of the grim reaper!

  • @galvestonsailor which represent the 7 states......oh and get your self a rising sun and it would look so much better mate.

  • also, in response to your question over whether its an authentic army hat, it certainly is. The slouch hats sold by Akubra are the same as the ones they supply (or did supply, I heard the contract went overseas from army cost cutting sadly) to the army.

  • Very nice looking hat! I have my grandfathers one from WW2, yours is a very similar bash.

  • Thanks to everyone commenting on my video. I appreciate your comments. I still love the heck out of this hat and wear it often. It's a great hat and I have yet to see another one being worn here in South Texas. Even though its made by Akurba I am curious if it really is an authentic army hat!

  • @galvestonsailor sad to say mate but it isn't authentic, currently Mountcastle Ltd is contracted to make the slouch hat, even though originally it was Akubra, but in saying that akubra do make slouch hats to sell commerically online, so in a way you could consider it authentic or a replica, one thing though, the band is slightly different to the actual 'Pugaree' where it sort of has a sewn line down the front and rear and it dips in at the top at these points, it also has 7 folds in the band

  • Hey Galveston Sailor one other thing.. if you want to shape the brim, do so over steam.. it makes it easier. Another thing.. don't be precious with it. Akubra hats love being outside, being knocked around and they're the best rain hat money can buy. Enjoy.

  • BTW the below comment was aimed at thekingamoungstme NOT at the guy posting this video

  • Both my grandfather and father in law fought in WWII as part of the AIS. As kids, my brother and I could pick these hats up from disposals shops for a couple of bucks (good rabbit fur felt, really well made). That was our way of remembering the diggers. I live near the Enoggera barracks in Brisbane and EVERY army guy wears these hats with the left brim up. My grandfather has NEVER mentioned wearing the left brim down as a sign of respect. Anyway.. enjoy your hat. It's an Akubra and good.

  • I am a WW2 Australian Army re-enactor in england and have five of these glorious hats. Because of what I do I feel it an honour to wear. They look good feel good and carry a huge respect around the world. Remeber the Diggers when you wear one.

  • Nice job mate, you single handedly managed to both disgrace those who died for our country as well as insult those who wear it today. If you still wish to have such little respect for our country, at least leave the left side flap down as sign of respect for those who have fallen.

  • @thekingamoungstmen. Your comments are a little harsh against this harmless feller and his hat. I expect you speak from youthful rage. But please explain how is this a disgrace or insult to those who have fallen or those who wear it today? Especially when you can openly buy these hats from Australia, because after all, it is just a hat.

  • Mate.. and I hope I'm talking for most Australians (as I am), you're comment is offensive, mis-informed and without logic. How is someone wearing our hat and flying the cutlural and historical flag disrespectful? Get a grip. In the corner of some foreign field, there's a bit of OZ. Gotta love that.

  • @nickburrows70

Agreed Nick, to me it seems like a mark of respect that a yank would want to own the hat that was the firsst in the world to beat the Japanese on the ground, and did more on the western front than any other. It was a wearer of this hat who inspired Hitler in the concept of blitzkrieg. (Monash, in WW! introduced the basic ideas and used then to great effect)

  • @thekingamoungstmen

Sunshine, I have no idea how old you are, but -- My brother and I are both Vietnam Vets, Dad, Granddad and 3 uncles served in the second AIF, Granddad and His brother served in the AIL, with John Veing Buried in France. Our family has some history. The side of the hat is turned up to allow for the SMLE (303) and brfore that the Martini Henry when they were carried at the slope. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THE SIDE BEING DOWN AS RESPECT.

  • @thekingamoungstmen Please remove your idiotic comment, as you don't speak for all Australians.

  • i think you look like les hiddens

  • sweet hat man. does look alot better with the bash.

  • You look pretty tuff in that!

  • how do i remove a small ink stain from my ANZAC slouch hat

  • I owned an Aussie hat 30 plus years ago and missed it SO I ordered one and received it yesterday. I thought we called it a "digger."

Anyway thanks for showing it off, now I can put a bash in mine as well. I love youtube and thank you for sharing.

  • i dont care about what the origin of the word is im just saying its pronounced OZZIE not AUSSIE

  • bakahulk

the way he is wearing it wrong is that the brim has to be dead straight but if its on a ceremonial thing like anzac day then the brim is up and the brim up is on the left side

  • if u want just respond by adding a comment here if you want me to make a video response showing you mine if im allowed

see cos im in the Australian army cadets

  • sorry

    Worn in the field

    not work in the field

  • hey im from australia,

On your hat The Pugeree doesn't look like the one on the slouch hats worn by the australian army and the australian army cadets. and also the slouch hat these days is not work in the field they wear bush hats

and just so you know we know its spelt Aussie but

    but its pronounced Ozzie

  • hey mate im ozzie and u are wereing it wrong

the strap goes round your chein and u only put the sides up on special accasins like ANZAC DAY and REMEMBERANCE DAY and if u modify the hate you are discrimanteing acanst the anzac to leace it how it is any ways its to big

  • look mate let the bloke wear it how he wants, in the trenches of galapoli the diggers where not given a rip about how there hat was worn, and an akurbra today is just the same, yes its an australian icon but dont get all smart ass bout it, come on lets just be glad to be aussie! and BTW there's no "Ozzie" in Australia! just to be a smart ass haha! Cheers!

  • Lool mate, if you were half as Aussie as you appear to be you'd certainly know that there is "Ozzie" in Australia...A common defraction of the word Australia as its know in Latin Greek spells the work Ozztralieeeeaaaaaaaah as it was to long to pronouce the famouse Edgar Van-Doobenstein from the word and pronounciation franchise decided to change the name to Australia...Daaaaaaaaaaahhhhh so next time when thinking you know it all, you don't...

  • I thought the brim was up to prevent interfering with firing a rifle. Makes sense to me. Also, while driving the left brim up clears the window.

  • @galvestonsailor you tilt the hat to the right abit too, for when it rains the water can drip off, I was walking home with it once from cadets and it started raining my hat was literally soaked I didnt have it pushed to the right.

  • @galvestonsailor I'm lookin at buying one of these myself actually, got a nice one on my watch list on ebay right now, barely used but under half the price of new one, but a friendly tip with the pronunciation...Aussie is phonetically pronounced 'Ozzie', where the two S's sound as Z's, if you say it like 'Owsey' it just sounds all wrong mate:)

  • @galvestonsailor The strap should be worn under your chin with the eyelet pieces in line with your mouth and eye

  • @galvestonsailor and regarding mochrie1994 comment, modifying it isnt discriminating the ANZAC's because the original ANZACs did a hell of alot of modifying themselves to make it more comfortable and more the their liking. currently the brim is only worn up on the left side and that is only when in one of the cerimonial orders of dress as now we wear bush hats out field and it brim down in general duty orders of dress.

  • @galvestonsailor p.s. i just wanted to give you a clear picture about the hat as most of the comments are just random Australians saying things like 'your wearing it wrong' or 'its a chin strap not a neck strap' but in saying this, your not part of the australian army so you can wear it however you want, cheers mate.

  • @mochrie1994 i wear my slouch hat all the time (Im a cadet) I obviously dont go out with it and with the video yes the strap goes around the chin xD

  • Do you have any military experience at all????

The brim is worn up for any ceremonial occasion which does include ANZAC Day and Remeberence day, but most definately is not limited to just days like that. A simple "passing out parade" is deemed a ceremonial occasion and reason to wear Hat KFF with brim up

Since the hat in this video has no accoutrements (other than the puggaree), it is not doing what ever word you used. If it had the accoutrements, then it starts to be a bit dodgey.

    Relax mate

  • @mochrie1994 learn to spell

  • how can you modify BRIM as you said ?

  • The hat is great.

  • Nice hat, It has a ton of style.

  • hey yeah good work on the bash, thats not really how you are spose to wear it and the hat is too big for your head for a starter. im in the australian army just incase you were wandering my back ground knowledge.

  • Are you really in the Army, becuase I can see nothing wrong with how he's wearing the hat... is it just because he's not using the strap? And the size of the hat is what ever size is comfy for you, he might have a part on his head that is larger compared to the rest... are you really in the army? I used to love wearing my dads slouch hat, he was in the army for 21 years.

  • yes i am in the army have been in for just over a year so not as long as your dad, as for the hitory behind the slouch hat i dont know too much bout it so i learned somthing from reading your comments so thank you for that. the hat however does need to sit a bit higher on his head and his head shouldnt fall into it like that for a lack of better explination. when whearing it brim down the back should sit higher up on the head than the front. to be continued ......

  • continueing..... when wearing it brim up which now is only worn on the left and only for cerimonial occations. with the left side being three finger widths above the ear then two finger widths above the left eye and one finger width above the right thus giving it the slouch.

  • oi fuck ya everytime you comment you say "your dad", not you so fuck up.

  • I think those hats are cool. It is hard to find those in Sweden.

  • Looks pretty good. But I think you'd look even better in a beret.
