  • Two of the all-time greats.

  • @1:42 LBJ: "I'll give you a snort or two but I won't put you on the helicopter..."

---What? A snort or two of of coke?!? lol!

  • LBJ was an opportunist, politically and financially. While presidents in office see their wealth drop, his increased dramatically. He cared about the black vote inasmuch as it would help the Dems, as evidenced by his previous opposition & his infamous phone call to Sen. Richard Russell. He was a blatant philanderer who made Kennedy blush and an egomaniac who lied about Vietnam and poorly micromanaged his generals and MacNamara. & check it-We were winning the war on poverty before he declared one

  • Today's protocol has Presidents - former and current - refer to each other (in private) by their first names. But in the 1960's both Kennedy and Johnson honored Truman by calling him "Mr. President". Eisenhower preferred to be called "General".

  • I always obey the President, especially when it's YOU! LOL The reoccurring pop makes this sound like the recording was archived on vinyl.

  • LBJ was a socialist scumbag whose policies have given us the entitlement debt problems of today.

  • @RRNYC1998 BS "entitlement debt", nor deficit spending, and high taxes did create the current economy train wreck. Didn't create the S&, Enron & Worldcomm debacles. All where caused by persons in the financial sector. In others word created by capitalists, the same group that have always played a huge role in every economic crisis in the USA ever since the Constitution was ratified.

  • he givin him a masonic hand shake

  • @3sixsex

Yes he is giving him a masonic handshake.

    They all are freemasons.

  • Pity LBJ is remembered for Vietnam (which admittedly was a dreadful mistake) and not for giving things like giving America its two biggest civil rights laws ever, Medicare, and the Great Society. He was indeed a politician through and through but he did seek to use the power he'd been granted to make his fellow American's lives better.

  • There should be three Presidents in that picture: HST, LBJ and HHH.

  • they snorted coke?

  • @latinoheat361

In the 1950 and 60s, a snort was in reference to a drink.

  • Harry Truman wasn't a human - he's anti, anti-man!

He's lis'nin' 2 the "slotsiP xeS" (while dancin' crazy pogo dance!...) xDD

  • wow that was weird listening to them talking about meeting for lunch. I dont know why it was weird it just was. These LBJ tapes are great, though I do wonder if any of his friends knew he was taping their calls as well as the real important political ones.

  • @ghostfaced1 Of course they knew the phone calls. The LBJ Administration was the one that introduced the practice, with AG RFK suggesting it. At that time it was legal for them to destroy recordings they didn't want in the archives. We aren't going to hear anything LBJ didn't want us to hear.

  • liseing to this brings into my mind that we consider nixon;s recordings of conversations to have been criminal. remember this was prior to unknowingly taping someone being a crime decades later. nixon's crime was... he happened to record his knowledge of a crime, covering it up and possibly bribery and obstrution of justice related to this crime. in my opinion, nixon did not order the break-in but was involved in the obstrution. that was his crime...not the taping itself.

  • so glad LBJ taped these calls, great stuff.

  • Fascinating stuff.

  • The only President to be put on "hold."

  • @BettyVanSneeIV only to talk to another president

  • @BettyVanSneeIV FORMER President. To call the "President" is a formality, one even LBJ used here. At this point in time both men where relics of US politics, knew each other well & probably had their personal dance they danced.

  • These were the days I lived that takes me back to an era that lthough mared by war at home and abroad, there was a great change with conservative democtrats and republicans. Such an exciting time in Amerca full of possibilies in making Amerca strong.

  • Yea, 2 war mongers and one dropped atomic bombs on civilians. Trash...

  • @robertiacomacci Yea, look up what the Japs did to the Chinese civilians and POW's in the war. Of course you have no comment about that, pig.

  • @1958Antimatter But I do. We have no control over what others choose to do, but we have absolute control over what we choose to do & will be judged by what we choose to do In war against terrorism the US is choosing to use terrorism Those innocents so affected will use that judgement to decide to what degree the can support the US. The list is to long to get into .5K characters.

  • I just LOVE Truman, what a great down to earht honest guy. I'm a Republican, but I wish we had ANY Democrat like him now. He was one tough SOB and amde soem of the biggest decisions that still shaped our entire world. If Obama were half as good as Truman, he'd get a lot further. We're damn lucky FDR wound up picking Truman for VP.

  • @RJY4356 Strangely in 1944 FDR wanted to keep Wallace, the socialist, on the ticket, but the Democratic party was able to outmaneuver the dying old man and pick Truman. FDR only spoke face to face with Truman twice before his death. Truman had no knowledge before FDR's death of the Manhattan Project. Essentially Truman was kept in the dark.

  • @RJY4356 New Deal, liberal Democrats thought that Truman was a haberdasher (hat seller) and a mule farmer from Missouri. They looked upon him with disdain, because he wasn't an East Coast intellectual like FDR had been.

  • @ebonics4everyone i TOTALLY agree with you on that particular observation. the same thing could be said in regards to how the kennedy camp felt towards lbjohnson both during his tenure as vp as well as after he became president.

  • @RJY4356 Also, FDR felt as many Republicans like Thomas Dewey did that Truman was personally corrupt for being associated with the Pendergast machine in Kansas City, Missouri. Tom Pendergast, however, had delegated Truman control of the Eastern half of Jackson County, which includes Independence and, at the time, was largely rural. Pendergast wanted honest men like Truman around him to give his machine an illusion of authenticity. Truman was allowed to run Eastern Jackson County honestly.

  • The Hiroshima and Nagazaki bombings were leggit.

    Thank you Truman

  • I though Truman would have a squeaky, nasally voice and I thought Johnson would have more of an accent and not as deep of a voice.

  • LBJ did not kill JFK.

  • Man quite the two distinguished and recognizable voices there.

  • LBJ shouldn't really be blamed for the Vietnam war it was more misfortune.

  • What a charming conversation!

  • @mc0558 For sure! almost as if it was out of a movie or tv script. Gotta love LBJ's accent, and wheelin n dealing talk, and Truman's genuine 'reverence' he always showed to the Presidency.

  • Johnson looked older then his age always ever notice how much older he looked then his age.

  • This is interesting, a great leader (Truman) having lunch with a murderer (RIP Kennedy).

  • @Jacklgf No doubt huh! LBJ was a real piece of SH*T who was the biggest usurper the United States has ever had. He killed Kennedy and I think he had a knowledge or hand in RFK and MLK's deaths too. Although at the end of his life I think it was catching up to him and he was deeply haunted by those ghosts.

  • @ConspiracyHist He liked to talk to people while pooping, too. Really degrading.

  • "I'll give ya a snort or two" haha that was cool

Two presidents kicking back and having some drinks.

  • its confusing to hear them both calling each other "mr. president"

  • Two good ole golden boys from dixie

  • Truman was 100% honest and for the best interests of the people. We haven't had a President that good in the past 60 years.

Johnson was not up to Truman's standard. It's a shame, Johnson might have been great, except for the god damned Viet Nam war. Really sad.

  • As great as Truman was, I think Johnson was better, Vietnam or not.

  • johnson would have sucked even without Viet Nam. But I agree with you about Truman.

  • @PRR5406 johnson was terrific, except for vietnam, the great society was a big hit

  • @PRR5406 I love them both for their common sense and civil rights

  • @PRR5406

I see something like this endorsed by 11 people and I wonder to myself why, if you can see this, do the American people vote for the likes of the Bushes, Reagan, Nixon. Why aren't they grateful for the medical health bill Obama passed and the reform of Wall Street (most of which was in place under Truman and Johnson) to stop the larceny and the cheating? How can they appreciate the honesty of a man like Truman and not than of an honest man like Obama?

  • @mc0558, why do you say "the American people" as if all Americans are the same, because we are not.

The only time I ever voted in an election was on November 4, 2008.

  • @Eric8542010 Yes, I know you are. I worded it hastily. Obviously what I meant are the millions who do vote for some of these retrogrades that have so frequently govern the U.S in the last 50 years.

  • @mc0558 Obama, honest? That bill has shades of LBJ's back door deals all over it. Search it up and you'll see. ie. Insurance, health care industry basically writing the law that's supposed to 'govern' them.

  • @PRR5406 Sorry, but Reagan was the best pres in the last 100 years.

  • @0manoscar Reagan introduced the regulatory climate that brought several financial crisis that evaporated the savings of Americans, and brought use the current financial train wreck. He has been way overrated in in role in the collapse of the USSR. All he did was deficit defense spend on project that where known to be soon obsolete. The poles where the ones who did the most at great personal rick. The Reagan legend is a fraud.

  • @PRR5406 I don't think the peopl of Nagasaki and Hiroshima would agree with you.

  • @bonfirejovi Given you viewpoint in the historic pantheon, I can see your point. Given the body count from 1938 to 1945, I think history will bear Truman out. Was the A bomb infliction racial? Probably. Was the desire to end the war by bringing Japan to its knees imperative? Definitely. I stand with Truman on this point, despite the horrific results.

  • @PRR5406

Forgot to mention LBJ was the main mover and shaker of the plot to kill JFK.

    That was even sadder....

  • @045781 You forgot to mention that the tooth fairy is running for pres. this year too! ASS!

  • @450984

You got your head up your culo, you are a idiot....

  • @PRR5406 Yes but there wouldn't have been a Vietnam War hadn't it not been for Truman who forsook FDR's post-war foreign policy of decolonization. Instead, the U.S. funded 3/4 of France's doomed war in Vietnam and intervened itself. Vietnam was Truman's biggest mistake.

  • @Mujangga I agree, France are greedy, snooty, and fucking bastards. Plus Truman supported France because if America don't support France, France refused to have sit for NATO membership. Pity that France even pulled out of NATO in 1966, it's a damn waste for support them in the 1st place. Not to mention that France fricking asked us for help on their war in Libya. Which isn't our war to begin with.

  • @PRR5406 Truman was a criminal and owed his political fortunes to disgraced political boss Tom Prendergast. A crook just like the rest.

  • @WhyMeMoFo That was the era at the time. He behaved with great integrity in office. He was no crook.

  • @MrTomRogan Nice opinion, but zero fact. Once again, Truman owed his entire political career to Tom Pendergrast, the local political boss.

  • @WhyMeMoFo He did.. but does that make him a crook or a product of the time? Show me the 'corrpution' that you talk of.

  • @MrTomRogan It makes him a crook. I've made this point very clear already.

  • @WhyMeMoFo No you haven't. You should read some Truman biographies before commenting.

  • @MrTomRogan What makes you think I haven't? What makes you think that I don't have a double Phd, one in History and one in American Studies and that I teach this subject? What makes you think that I may not know this topic FAR better than you? :)

  • @WhyMeMoFo Maybe because you are making allegations that have no substance in fact? Maybe because you spelt PenderGAst wrong?

  • @MrTomRogan This is YT, not an academic forum of my peers. You are a lay person. I've given my professional opinion already. I'm quite satisfied based upon my professional expertise in this field. Thanks!

  • @WhyMeMoFo The problem with this statement is that any true professional would not suggest that his opinion is 'professional' and thus inherently supreme above others. Truly professional opinions are those vested in articulated fact and conclusive argument. You have offered neither.

  • @MrTomRogan Once again, YOU ARE A LAY PERSON. And this is my field of expertise. I'm not trying to convince you of anything. Go find your own information, or don't. It matters not.

  • @WhyMeMoFo Okay. Thanks for your professional advice.

  • @MrTomRogan I wasn't giving advice. I made a statement, you questioned it, I sent you on your way. You're welcome though :). BUH BYE!

  • @045781 You are an idiot

  • @BamaChris

You were one of millions of kids who were indoctrinated in school into believing

    in the Warren Omission Report.

  • @045781 No

  • Harry truman was a remarkable man and one of the finest presidents of the century. far greater than Lbj

  • I had no idea Truman's voice was as low as it was. I always imagined a mouse.

  • @karnman yea truman kinda sounded like johny cash, maybe not but kinda

  • @karnman Perhaps your imagination was in part affected by the rhetoric that want us to assume certain things. I was in HS when Truman died, so I have personal recollections of how he sound in TV apperances

  • Truman was no accident - in spite of what he and others may have said. Ambassador Joe Kennedy and others were well aware of the precarious health of FDR and Truman was chosen with the full knowledged that he'd be the next Chief Executive. A wise choice indeed!

LBJ truly was an accidental president but - if you can overlook Vietnam ( a bit task ) was a strong, decisive and intelligent leader.

  • at 1:45 President Johnson told President Truman that, "he would give a "snort" or two, but he wouldn't put him on a helicopter"; what does that mean?

  • I think he means give him a couple of shots of whisky but wont get him drunk . IE Helicopters and spinning rooms lol

  • Two accidental Presidents, that had to deal with a lot on their plate.

  • Truman was an accident, Johnson was no accident.

  • @byrdsss They were both evil warmongering democrats.

  • @bonfirejovi You dont know what you are writing about you putz. Are you saying the Korean War wasn't justified?

  • @byrdsss: Yeah, but one of them made a deal that he had to deal with!

  • Lyndson B Johnson, one of our true and great democractic presidents..God Bless him for all he has done for country!! Since Tricky Dicky president, it has all been downhill for our country! We don't have presidents who think for our people anymore...If only Hillary Clinton had not been cheated out of the presidency?

  • lol by democratic you mean they which will steal from the people for the good of the state.

  • Vietnam was a mess since Truman, Kennedy layed the groundwork for the mess.. His killing of Diem, set the stage to entrapped Johnson into the mess...Johnson was on his way on settling the war, until Tricky Dicty (Nixon) undermined the settlement with his promises to Thieu! Johnson was for the people..under his admistration, ALL AMericans benefitted. Remeber the times, The Red Scare, John Birchers, Soviet Empire, Goldwater extremistism..Yes, Johnson did an excellent job. Medical, voting rights

  • @caction66 Debateable

  • @steveforsane Cheated the fall back accusation of those whose candidate didn't win. Doubtful if HC could have won, if she did she would have hit the same wall Obama did.

  • "Mr President could you hold for one moment?"

And he holds. Any other ex-POTUS would have pitched a fit.

  • "After tomorrow those goddamn Kennedys will never embarrass me again—that's no threat—that's a promise."

That's what johnson said the day before JFk was killed.

  • LBJ had no conscience; murder was a walk in the Sugar Valley to this individ.

  • Agreed. And Bush made Johnson look like a saint.

  • LBJ was involved in MLK and RFK but the coverups were brilliantly, uh, executed. LBJ was also an immigration criminal, working with Teddy Kennedy to frame that infamous 1965 Immigration Reform Act which has dramatically changed the U.S., turning it into a third-world cesspool.

  • Thanks to Johnson the United States is a Banana Republic.

He is now buring in Hell......

  • What you know about history wouldn't fill a thimble.

  • Good point.

  • "give you a snort". Damb. You KNOW those days are over....

  • LBJ was one of your most colourful presidents. I don't want to knock Obama but he could sure learn a lot from LBJ's history on how to cajole congress and how to show courage.

  • White house staffers might lock Bush out ... maybe Clinton too. No, they'd probably let Clinton in.

  • Staffers loved the Bush's...........they were kind decent people

  • I meant the current staffers.

  • Tell that to the thousands of innocent Iraqi civilians that are now dead because of collateral damage.

  • Thousands died when Saddam was in power, thousands died in our civil war, thousands died in all wars, just or not. 58,000 men died in Vietnam and during that same time 800,000 people died in car wrecks in America. People die my friend, one way or another, and we have not gotten hit since 09/11. I hope Obama can say the same thing.

  • I agree. Why do they matter? They're only Iraqis. If we don't know them and if they don't look like us then who the fuck cares. People gotta die somehow. They were in the way.

  • Thats life pal.

  • No that's death bud. fucking small minded racist

  • He was probably staying @ Blair house right by the WH

  • Im going to the same University as LBJ hell yeah

  • Johnson was on his best behavior; he knew he was being taped.

  • i can only wish LBJ is getting fucked in the asshole by 1000 deamons and satan for killing almost 50,000 American soldiers. If I saw him today, I would peel his skin off like a catfish.

  • That sack of shit Johnson was also behing the death of JFK.

He was the devil on earth.......

  • Oh yeah. I agree 110% He got off too easy in this world.

Kissinger is still available for skinning.

  • what an interesting look back into history

  • What conspiracy? The Texas pudnocker had lunch (and a highball or two) with the True Man from Independence. Lighten up, Scooby Dudes

  • These idiots with the conspiracy theories are like the star-trek scabs, NO LIVES! All the books that were written about this shit was more than a money making scheme for the authors. They cashed in on Kennedy's murder. It was Oswald, sorry folks that's all there is!

  • Oswald being dead how could he cover it up?

    There was a massive cover-up

    Open your eyes asshole.

  • Conspiracy theories are dumb. Theses are the same people that believes that the Landing on the Moon never happened or that the Holocaust never happened as well. What pitiful little people

  • "I'll give ya a snort or two."

  • a "snort" is not what you think. It has no drug connotation whatsoever... A "snort" was a two fingered drink in a low ball glass.. Both LBJ and Truman liked bourbon. A very typical reference to a lunch time cocktail.

  • LBJ was way beyond rowdy. This was our frst pure psychopath--LBJ. Truman wasn't much better: started Korean War and then refused to allow Mac to get after the Red Chinee Horde. These two paved the way for Nixon and Reagan: The Four Coarsemen of Evil.

  • "refused to allow Mac to get after the Red Chinee Horde"?....your grasp on history is incredibly childish.....and what should ole "Mac" have done after he "got after" those "Red Chinee Horde", eh?

  • Hi billy:

The fact is, ah say the fact is, Mac wanted to nuke the "Red Chinee Horde." That why Truman 'nuked' Mac, as it were, but you already knew all of that, billy. You already knew that, mang. Instead of acknowledging what everyone knows, has always known, you thought it would be a good idea to go revisionist.

But Bugs Bunny said: "You can't do that stuff here, Doc."

  • @lumpagogo Mac was the psychopath, if he thought nuking the Chinese( your s key busted?) would go well. Nuking a former ally against Japan, and killing innocents in a country that never attack the US. At that time not nearly enough Americans support the Truman Doctrine to even have support in the US, despite their support of "Mac"

  • @donyunger

Red China was never our "ally," mang. Youze need to history up, youze follow? And we should have what Mac wanted, wasting Mao and the guys in their infancy.

  • "A snort or two", I laughed hard at that moment. I say that all the time, and my friends never have any idea what it means.

  • What evidence do you have to back that up, you are nuts. Not the Kennedy stuff I have already heard ever stupid god damn conspiracy theory about that. I want to know the stuff about his sister, you are obviously making shit up.

  • You probably have a conspiracy theory as to how you were even born you fool.

  • All you need to do is at his track record, people worked for him know he was a sack of shit.

His attorney´s knew he was a serial killer, read Barr Mcleans book on that Killer.

    Got that Asshole..........

  • I have never found the need to take advice from someone who has such a limited vocabulary that he would use vulgarity in order to compensate for his lack thereof.

  • Fine do as you like, but Johnson was a killer that is a fact.

    Got that ol so pure.....

  • You speak out of your ass young lad. Good luck to you. You'll need plenty of it.

  • I am an old timer, don´t know how old you but you need to read plenty of Books.

Johnson was Killer, try 3 million Vietnamese that he had killed for starters.

  • You're not worth debating with. You lack rational thought. All the best to you.

  • God bless you , hope you read some good books on the people Johnson killed. Take care ol pure one.....

  • Don't accuse Johnson of being a killer and then turn around and use the almighty God in the same sentence. Isaiah 58:9 "stop making false accusations and spreading vicious rumors".

  • These are not false accusations, I can not do your homework for you.

You can do your own research on that killer Johnson.

    Peace be with you.......

  • They are accusations that have never been proven. They are alleged by a woman that said she had a 21 year affair with Lyndon Johnson. There is as much evidence to rationalize the idea that she's a cook as you've found to justify her correctness. Peace to you as well.

  • Johnson´s lovers accusations were proven by a long list of witness´s.

    Peace..........

  • :) There's no arguing with you. You're a know-it-all and choose to believe what is written in a book without investigation. Adios.

  • Right, that's all the "LBJ killed JFK" conspiracy nuts have as evidence, the word of some supposed mistress. There is NO real evidence that LBJ had anything to do with, the entire notion is preposterous. Most of the conspiracy nutjobs get their evidence from the one History channel "documentary" that was only aired once, and never again because it was full of lies, inaccuracies, and conjectures.

  • Thats nice hearing the current President at the time calling a former President by 3 Presidents ago "Mr.President"

  • and youve come to that conclusion by reading cartoons?

pretty simplistic. you go straight to the top of the class..

  • And intelligent people blame you, and people like you, of being stupid.

  • I loved both these giants! Hope we have another one like them some day!

They told it like it was!

  • Pretty funny. It is great to see this old audio released to the public.

  • That was just delightful - you can tell that Truman was just tickled.

  • OH my GOD how did you get this? This a confidential presidential stuff?

  • LBJ's presidential library released it, along with thousands of hours of other recordings that Johnson had made while president.

  • Have You Ever Seen The Graves Of President And Mrs. Lyndon Baines Johnson?, I Am Originally From Texas And A Native Daughter Of The State.Keri Nowling, Formerly Of Austin, Texas, Now Residing In Seymour, Indiana.

  • Comment removed

  • @dhLord64

Two top ten Presidents as well. LBJ I rank #5, while Truman is around #8.

  • Truman was one of the greatest presidents in our nations history. Johnson, and Lady Bird, were a complete disaster.

  • You are completely mistaken. I have a hunch that you are someone who is not for the little guy. Here was someone who was very kind to the poor and championed education. So many seniors rely on Medicare- his program. Here's someone who didn't just stay within the party unlike today. Wilbur Mills didn't like the idea of Medicare, and he was a Dem. Johnson also sided with the Republicans in passing the Civil Rights Act. He was anything but a disaster. He was a blessing.

  • truman was such a meat and potatos prez.

  • I hope we have another president like him one day.
