We never wanted to take Baghdad, our goal was to prevent the Iraqis from advancing any further into our territory, the Iraqis only did 2 major offensives, one at the start of the war, 2nd was in 1988 when they reclaimed Al-faw. We executed 90 counter-offensives and liberated all of our towns and cities.

iran did win the war, it is very easy to read about it , the iranians were under the serious sanctions by the whole world(they still are) and their army was in mess as it just had been purged from shah supporters, their equipments were mostly american but as america had cut ties with iran they couldnt use any of their equipments properly, on the other hand saddam was supported by west inc all persian gulf kingdoms either financially or militarily , it was a big surprise that iran could resist!!
