  • this is Reggae...

  • im a huge madness fan and just found that this was the inspiration for their version, and have to say this one is brilliant, and ive discovered a new band to find out about and enjoy :-)

  • first single i ever bought saved up all my dinner money for the 6s 8d it cost from a shop on essex road, islington. It was the local skinhead anthem, still got the single, love it, such memories. my son is getting into all the old stuff now, reggae lives on and on.

  • @Freebird76Slippy Your Rite Brov Mickey Okoro On the drums johnny kapie on guitar Terry smallz keyboard other members santi kamara jimmy davis dennis phillps now dead bang thats it

  • great song i have still got the single and i have a copy of william tell witch is a great version. long live reggae.

  • wow

  • thanks for posting this my old vinyl version had seen better days - I learned something new as I did not know that they came from London, its gets harder and harder to find truly rare records since youtube came on the scene cheers

  • Amazing I thought this would be too rare even for You Tube, it was a skinhead anthem in my home town - all those Ben Sherman shirts, 2 tone trousers, Doc Martens and Crombies. The Cats are/were Londoners but up north we forgave them because this was cool. Actually I don't think the word "cool" had been invented then.

  • You can download the audio-mp3 of this tune at fromvideotomp3 doht cohm.

  • Great song. I found it through Morrissey's album "Under The Influence". Is it just me, or is it some resemblence between this melody and John William's Star Wars Imperial March?

  • This is a great record - used to have it on a 45rpm, but I loved to play it at 33! REALLY cool sounds.... Try it.

  • Went to see then in Catford se London -- late sixty's supporting Desmond Decker !!!

  • When it first came out, if I remember correctly, it wa quite a difficult record to obtain and could at one time only be bought in Brixton where the reggae shops were AMAZING... THIS VERSION IS FANTASTIC

  • WOW!!! Does this bring some memories!!! Romford Market, The Whykham!!!

  • Es hermosa.

  • i love the ska versions of swan lake, anyone a fan of the original version?

  • no doubt Tchaikovsky would like it too. Especially since 1:48

  • Good tune, oi from sweden! <---- Former trojan skin

  • Sounds of my youth

  • how my parents hated this song and oh how i loved it ............ awesome

  • I just picked this single up from my local charity shop for 0.50 euro the other day, great sound!

  • I bought the original 7" single (BAF 1) of this on ebay the other day. It came through the post today and sounds amazing. I'm 17 and have been searching for it on CD for my mum for her birthday. You can get it on a Trojan album called.. One Step Beyond, it's awesome!

  • What Band is that ?

Surely not the "Cats" from the Nederlands with their brilliant singer Piet Veerman.

  • Sorry to disappoint you jonnyand felix...But this band are English from the East End of London, i know because i grew up with the Drummer and used to go to some of there early Gigs in and around London with the band ;-)

  • @Freebird76Slippy I think the guitarist later played with Linton Kwesi Johnson. :-)

  • Had this record in about 1970 and lost it on my travels . I then bought an original 7" single about 6 years for £10.00 from a Reggae Revival Shop in Brighton. Can't remember the address but you should get it on line.

  • hi i have been after this for a long time do u know where i can get it

  • i found it on a cd called the world of morrissey. all different songs that have influenced him.

  • i was also led to believe that they are dutch.

  • Isn't that the cd ''Under the Influence'' you're talking about? I found it that ay too.

  • i'm 15 and i <3 this kinda music...i like ska and rocksteady :D love other bands such as beach boys, beatles and MADNESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this is a classic

  • I thougt I was the only one who remembered this version of swan lake is a reggea version.

Thx for posthin. Got great memories of this song.

  • I've got this on an original 7" single Made in England in 1968 - it's the first "BAF 1" copy. In top condition; any ideas of it's value?

  • amo esta cancion la amooooooo

    es lo mejoooooooooooooor!

  • uuuuuuu k bien

  • There might well be a Band from the Nederlands called The Cats, but they sure aint this Band playing here!!

  • i heard this when i was 12 and my mum came to take me out of hospitral and we had a cup of tea in a cafe i heard this there and for the ne3xt 300 years ive been looking for nut cracker suite by the cats and only last week i found out its swan lake .........

  • Wow where do these people get there imformation from ? format 80 your wrong about The Cats being White and from the Nederlands! I can assure you that they are "Black" and the Drummer at least came from Mile End in the East End of London. I know this for fact as we grew up together. His name is Michael Okoro of African and Irish parents.

  • Well said uncle b :)

  • There was a Dutch hit/popgroup with the same name.

  • hi anybody knows who sings song that has this track. This is rap song like save me I will save If I have a chance I will save you

  • One of the first reggae songs I ever purchased

  • The great Judge Dread did a version of this

  • this is the first ska reggae song i bought. what fab memories of the old record shops. bring back vinyl.not my fav but the beat is the key.

  • great song, got given the vinyl by my dad recently

  • Very cool. I love the Madness version but it is great to hear the original ska version. Good white remakes are cool but the black originals are the real deal and part of the fun is hearing what inspired some of my favorite artists, like Clapton and the Stones, and getting the same !WOW! that got them started. Enjoy Thorogood but know the Bo.

  • Don't think I've heard the Madness version man. I'll have to download it.

  • LOL, I am surprised but bow to your greater knowledge of feline Ska'sters. I guess even us white folks get to be original once in a while, even as guests in another people's tradition. I still like both versions.

  • @moseleycat i hope you know the tune is from the composer Tchaikowsky his Swan Lake ..

  • @Thilde91 LOL, are you goosing me or making a catty remark? (Maybe this thread is my swan song.) Good call, but it is a very nice arrangement in this ska version, just wanted people to give props to the first group that crossed it over to skaville, the Cats, even though the Madness version gave me an entirely new appreciation for Tchaikowsky's version. Now, I wonder if someone can do a ska version of the 1812 Overture (or would that be Bad Manners?)

  • who sings this song??

  • The Cats. You can find this song on a Cd called "One Step Beyound" on Trojan

other tracks they have done are:-

Swan Lake // Swing Low 1968

    My Girl // The Hog

The Hog (Vocal) // Blues For Justice 1969

William Tellhe // Love Walk Right In 1969

Falling In Love // Ray Pereira - Don't Mess With Cupid

  • I agree!!!Piano,Flute,jazz...beat salted with bluebeat...Excellent...

  • Piano, flute and Bluebeat, with a jazz classical vibe overlay or otherwise known as "Catical Purrfection!"

  • Yeah man I love this tune.

  • wow old 1970 tune takes me back lol

  • maria great tune
