@TapRackBoom actually it is highly compressed gas. When in the spray can it is so dense it becomes liquid.

The cooling effect is caused by the cans decompression as it loses pressure. To reach equilibrium the compressed gas absorbs energy and the can and air/liquid released does the same.

Although, you are right that liquid nitrogen would make it brittle, it is not what is in the can.

@hackedranger the stuff i buy is a liquid nitrogen propellant, i dont buy the cheap stuff really. Also some brands put alcohol in the compressed air to give it more of a cleaning power. Therefore it takes the heat from the molecules around it in order to turn into gas. When the liquid takes heat from the water, the water gets cold enough to turn into ice.  If you sprayed the liquid onto your skin, the liquid would rapidly suck heat out of the contact area to allow it to turn into a gas, and that rapid change of temperature would give you frostbite.

You could have just sprayed the bottom of the cup, the cold would have transfered to the water and frozen it, and you could still be able to drink the water (just make sure you the water does not touch the part that you sprayed).

Whats happening is that the liquid is supposed to be a gas at room temperature, but it is contained in a bottle with a set volume, not allowing any of the liquid to change to gas. When the liquid is released, it changes to gas, but needs alot o heat to make the change

I didn't read the label, since I know not to inhale it, hold upside down, etc.. So I did not read to wash my hands afterwards... And then I ate some chicken wings.
