That looked beautiful!!!! You really should go on the Food Network...... They would love you! This is a great idea for a desert! I think I'll try it out! Thanks Betty.... Your wonderful!!!
That looks yummy! That would look great on a platter at a BBQ. It would look really pretty if I made other ones alternating those in a cirlce on a platter. Like use one with the ones you made and alternate those in a cirle with green melon ones. That would look very pretty and lots of color for company.
@SSmlove I think fresh peaches would take the place of pineapple very well. However, for fruit kebabs you can make them all melon, or add fruits like kiwi, apples, pears, oranges, grapes, blackberries, blueberries---just anything that you like, where the colors contrast and the flavors blend.
@nycradiostar You can find the recipe for the dip in bettyskitchen. Just search for Friendship Dip. I think fruit is great grilled, particularly pineapple. I've never grilled strawberries or melons. You could use something like peaches, perhaps.
They would have been lovely to have ealier today Betty as it has been very hot here in the UK and your fruit kebabs look so refreshing -take care, Richard :-)
@dempss1 When you are looking at the fruit, all pineapples look basically the same. Some will look a little better than others. Choose a pineapple that is partially turning yellow--1/3 or less of the pineapple should be yellow. Any more than that will be over-ripe. You can also try to pull out one of the green stems off of the top. A really (almost over-ripe) pineapple will allow you to pull one out. You should probably pick one that is hard to pull.
I always stand in the store and smell them. I know people look at me like I'm weird but whatever... If the pineapple is not refridgerated it should smell sweet but not overly sweet because that might mean it's overripe. After a couple of buys you'll get the hang of it.
Betty, when I was growing up, my grandmother celebrated every special occasion with these kebabs! Sometimes she cut them small and used those little plastic spears that look like swords. My favorite was pineapple, grapes, and cheddar! These are beautiful! Thank you so much!
My daughter made the fruit dip yesterday and we had it on strawberries, grapes, pineapple and honeydew, I couldn't find a good canteloupe at the store. We didn't do them on kebabs so it wasn't as pretty as yours but it was absolutely delicious.
@soonfully I use Chicago Cutlery. I use a paring knife, bread knife, and a chef's knife most often. I will try to come up with a segment on knives after I catch up on a few recipes!
@inmeeden It wouldn't be great to have the peelings on--but I could manage to eat the cantaloupe holding the peeling in my hand, I think! Thanks for your sweet comment!
you spell kabobs weird haha. I love all kinds of kabobs..meat kabobs with pineapple, onion, green pepper and tomato..super yummy. and putting the fruit on a stick does really make it look fancy. I love it!
