  • Russian cars are just like their most famous gun, AK-47. They're simple, rugged, loud, uncomfortable...but damn..there will never come a day when they won't work. Sure there will be days when they won't start, or won't open...but eventually they will get going again.

  • Lada limo? Who made this?

  • Velorex from CZ

  • Does anyone know the instrumental music played during when the narrator says "It's a fact that people behind the Iron Curtain never set their sights too high..."

  • Siempre se burlan de los autos rusos...pero nunca vi una burla sobre el lada samara

Lo usan como puntapie, pero al final del dia... no pueden discutir que ESE fue un buen auto :)

  • "It cost me one potato."

  • But the Velorex is of Czech origin and was originally made for people who wanted to own a roofed motorbike. Britain had Reliant Robins and Peel Tridents as the exact same type of motorbike "cars", so I'd say it's even. ;-) Most East Block cars outside of of Škodas and all-terrain Ladas were and are truely horrible, though. :-)

  • Velorex is czech car!!!!

  • anybody knows the song at 6:32 ??

  • @jorikrademakers Music: Prokofiev - Dance of the Knights

  • brits made shittier cars than this though

  • fuck bbc fuck englands fuck NWO!!!!

  • @sun777port2

    Tourettes?

  • don't what r u laughing of??? i would like rather this vehicle than go by fukin dirty bus. In this fukin NWO. And i rather would like to live in comunnism times than in this fukin NWO democracy slavery times!

  • That Velorex would have appealed to Lewis Carroll.

    "But a sidecar without a motorcycle ... "

  • this is just biased, the soviets make sexy jets!!!

  • @harris3693 MIG :D

  • @Boxfresh2010 MiG 21,25,29,31 and Sukhoi SU29,35,37!!!!

  • i like the early wartburgs

  • my grandfather had a lada samara

  • @UndergroundMasterify Mine had a Trabant.

  • Tatra 603 is so gorgeous.

  • The Velorex really pushing it to the extreme. Those were sold by special vouchers for disabled citizens. (many of them crippled second WW veterans). It was based on the Jawa 350 2cyl. 2 stroke motorcycleframe end engine. I do remember a few of them as a child in the early sixties, but they disappeared from the road, although some people collect them for their uniqueness. Their roles were inherited in the mid sixties by a special version of Trabant, the Trabant Hicomat.

  • tatra 603 is a Goddes !!!

  • Comment removed

  • Haha the TV ad for the Lada made absolutely NO sense

  • Some kinda ironic when just britishmen are arguing about the quality of soviet cars.

I bet the majority of all MGs, Rovers, Austins, even Jaguars had been scrapped until they reached the age of 15 years. Soviet/GDR cars however, keep still running and are even increasing in value...

  • @4thFloor sometimes quality is found in the way the object is surposed to perform. And not by the fact that it lasts 30 years? No food would be quality then (; ..

  • 6:40 - Fiat 125p Pickup ;*

  • That Tatra seen driving in the convoy would sell for more than a same age Jaguar.

  • I'm not sure whether the Chaikas or Zils were ever in private hand in the old Soviet Union, I think that they were primarily used as staff cars. The Volgas, on the other hand, were sold to private citizens and were even exported at one time. The Vellorex was a pre war cycle car from Czechoslovakia, the Tatras were also based on a pre war, pre communist mechanical design but restyled. The Trebant used a pre war two cycle engine from a pre war DKW, the old DKW plant was in East Germany.

  • 0:45 Ja, ja, ja... euuh da da da

  • Ok, but Tatra 603 was not THAT bad in its time....

  • the Russia cars is good

  • @General1N With all due respect, have you ever had the chance to look at other cars? Even really bad American cars are worlds better than Russian cars, not to mention good or even average German or Japanese cars. Don't get me wrong, I really like most of the Russian people I have met but the system they lived under was not exactly promoting extream competition to build the latest & greatest products. That said. I want one or maybe two. The Chaika and maybe something an average person might have.

  • @shananagans5 but you gotta agree, what they lacked in one arey, they gained significantly in others, like Fighter Hets and their space industry, very high tech for their time!!!

  • sipping a molotov cocktail XD

  • 5:33 this volga is from Latvia, Latvian number plates! :D yeah!

  • @KGWOLF77

    Да Латвийская :) Волга

  • I had a lada riva and it was awful. having said that, I'd be happy to own a tatra, volga, chaika, trabant or wartburg. they at least have redeeming features. and the 4x4 niva is an excellent workhorse.

  • Two words Limey, Envoy Epic, remember those? Here's another Austin Marina? And what about those wonderful three wheeled Reliants? Kind of a pot calling the kettle black a Brit ripping old Soviet cars, they had a communist centrally planned economy, what was your excuse? I see a Tatra amongst that grouping, those were actually a decent car by Eastern block standards, mostly a pre war design but very far ahead of it's time.

  • Here's a car that could blend in with them, AMC Pacer.

  • guys do you know how can I contact Julian or any of the U.S.S.R members? it's quite hard to get any info of them.

orange Volga they've shown in this film is a wonderful little car, many of these are still in daily use in conditions that non of the modern cars can survive for that long. you can fix it yourself no problem, it does about 25mpg, and the ride is exceptionally smooth

  • stupid.. most cars are not from ussr.. they are just kidding from vintage notsobad cars

  • volga - the good car

  • you suks!!!

    Russia rulez!

    Im from Russia

  • @nixonkondor

I am from Russia too, but our cars are really crap.

  • @MrMind321 even today, lada can't compete with virtually anyone, I mean, dacias are class for today's ladas.

still, it is true that russian cars were made to work in awful conditions, most of much better cars from the time wouldn't start in winter

  • @TheKenjoje Wouldn't say that, Lada 1205 could probably compete with a T-90.

  • @TheTruemouse haha if you think about russian tank, then ok :)

  • @TheKenjoje Absolutely, it can drive faster than a tank and it probably has slightly better fuel economy.

  • @TheTruemouse I think the tank has better fuel economy, it is surprise how much fuel ladas could have spent considering engine capacity

  • @MrMind321 Thats what youre thinking i think the opossite

  • 6:41 Polski Fiat 125p Pick-up ??????

  • I have Trabant and that is the best car ever!!!!!!!

  • @patrikasLTL im sure your accents far worse you dribbling twat lol

  • the guy at 2:52 is such a car anorak..damn hes even wearing one lol

  • Kapot means the door to open the engine place.

Is Capot in Argentina too. It does not means kaput for dead or broken.

    He is an idiot.

  • @jeanmarcARG

No...you are the idiot. He means that the shape of the word when it is written in Russian is similar to how "KAPUT" is shaped when spelled in English. He does not mean the actual Russian translation of it.

  • Trabant, Wartburg and Barkas truck are East German cars.

Tatra was Czechslovakian car and it is beautiful.

  • They do show a Tatra, but they don't mind telling about it... You wanna know why? Becouse it actually is a damn good car!

  • @Hammer0165 Tatra was a Czechoslovak car. My favorite Soviet car si Lada Niva. Yes it is propaganda.

    Hello from Argentina.

  • @jeanmarcARG Czechoslovakia was part of the USSR too ;)

  • @Hammer0165 No it wasn't.

  • @Artess0123

    I'm sorry, you're right. A Tatra T-603 is a excellent car though!

  • @Hammer0165 Czechslovakia was part of the " Eastern Block or a Warsaw Pakt Country but it was not part of the Soviet Union.

  • ive lived in a communist country and i believe communism, capitalism and natzionalism(or however u write it) are same in the basics. every 1 of em had the same ultimate goal: get the power to the hands of the few who created it, with sum kinky shit on the sideline for nazis

and i still know stalin was more cold hearted cuz he killed all people who didnt believe in communism, were intellectual or had more wealth. and he took them to siberia in working prisoncamps

    and why is zaparozhetž missin?

  • That Chaika was only driven to and from the Kremlin by Stalin's mother. Original tires, Low miles. Best offer.

  • You are a piece of shit, just because communism makes bad cars doesnt mean communism itself is bad, id rather drive a bad car and have a higher standard of living than drive a capitalist car and have a lower standard of living. Well at least communist cars were more reliable than british cars.

  • @REPOMAN24722

    hahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahhaha

    what nonsense

    hahahahahahahahhahahahahahhahahaahahahaha

  • @camillo1234 I meant they were more reliable than british cars of the same era, and have you ever lived in a communist country, I know many people who have and have said that it is much better.

  • @REPOMAN24722 Do you know that in Romania every year around Christmas you get to see the execution of the communist dictator on TV? They loved him that much!

Do you know why communists are always talking about nazism and fascism? Because communism killed more than the Nazis did. Get yourself a time machine to live under Stalin if you think communism is any good.

  • @ruiferreira89 You cant call communism bad just because it had one bad leader, capitalism killed more people, in the 50's communism was getting more popular in the US so the US government eecuted and killed communist's and their fammilies just because they believed in communism. Thats more cold hearted than anything stalin has ever done.

  • @REPOMAN24722 What about the forced collectivisation of agriculture in Russia by Lenin, that let farmers all over Russia to starve? What about Stalin's Great Purge that left the armed forces unable to fight back the Germans? What about Gulags? Forced labour? The children that beat up old people during the Cultural Revolution in China because they weren't "good" communists? What about Tienanmen?

The flag is red because it's stained of blood. Get some facts before standing for communism.

  • @ruiferreira89 Thats the USSR, not cuba and Yugoslavia had the best form of communism you could freely travel to any other country, trade and best of all free health care and food, have you ever lived in a communist country? No I didnt think so.

  • Soviets made great assut rifles, Sorry I can not say that about cars.

  • This clip contains a lot of disinformation. Wartburg, Tatra and Trabant weren´t russian cars.

And Lada Samara isn´t bad car..

  • @Jyllenberg At the start of the video he said "people behind the iron curtain" that includes Poland, Yugoslavia, URSS, etc

  • @toreto5000

yugoslavia wasn't behind iron curtain wtf are you talking about ? Yugoslavia was one of the founder of Non Aligned Movement

  • @hercegovac00 you're right, well I made a mistake

  • @Jyllenberg The title does say "Soviet cars". And Tatra is know to have made some of the most revolutionary car designs before the second world war and some of the toughest trucks ever.

  • @patrikasLTL how about having a nice cup of shut the fuck up? I hope you'll reincarnate to a maggot every time I'll be stomping you to death. Go fuck your fellow comrade you leninist queer.

  • i am from Latviaaa ;DD

  • @agir68 es arī :)

  • didn't BMW recently made a prototype with a vinyl stretched over metal frame?... I guess that's where Bangle got his inspiration from.

  • @ahounda its called GINA

  • I thought the Volorex was a lovely little buggy, it has so much more personality than those Lardas

  • Well, I had (must read, "made the mistake of buying...") an english Rover 414 in the early 2000´s, and trust me, it wasn´t a good car... So, I don´t know why these english men are so hilarious about the Lada.... Now I´ve heard that modern mini coopers are better than the older ones.... but, That`s because England does not have car industry of their own anymore? I mean, they sold everything to foreign companies, aren´t they? Correct me if i´m wrong about de data.

  • Как ни крути, но постсовесткие машины - это полное гавно

  • Chaika GAZ-13 was not build in 1976!!! That's terrible bullshit! It was build in 1956!!!

  • why couldn't they ask real russians to pronounce the text? =( Accent's terrible.

  • @patrikasLTL oh tipical american everything out side the usa is propaganda!

  • Maybe it was said there, but since when is Velorex a Soviet car? And a Tatra 603...? Greetings from Czech Rep., the land of these cars.;-)

  • @TurbotwinX2

Well chezoslavakia was part of the soviet union. So cars made there are soviet.

  • @srspower CZECHOSLOVAKIA (not chezoslavakia as you have written) WASN´T EVER a part of the Soviet Union. It was a regular state, as for example German Democratic republic, Poland etc. Use the Google:-)

  • @TurbotwinX2

Oh come on. Czechoslavakia, East Germany and Poland may have been so called 'independant states' but you know as well as i do they had puppet communist soviet serving governments.

  • @srspower Yes, I agree with this. They really were the satellites of the USSR, but officialy were idependant. Not as for example Ukraine, Geogia etc. These were official part of the USSR.

  • @dude4rmUtah - it's Andy Wilman, the executive producer of 'new' top gear. And this is way before Hammond and black stig - they came along in 2002 with the new formal; this is proper 'old' tg from the 1990s.

  • I saw an Lada parked in the carpark of my college, and my mum got taught to drive in one.

  • In Soviet Russia..

  • damn this is an old top gear i dont even know who that guy is this must be before richard hammond came around and when they had black stig

  • The pronunciation at 0.29 is shit like a 3 years old kids xD I`m as an Russian were offended !!! :D why you not take reall Russians ??

  • WHF??????????

    Robbi Williams speaks like that

  • @ 3:35 the "chajyka" means seagul

foe what reason they called it that? I dunno...

but this was in no way a people's car. only the political big shots were driven around in those.

  • well in Latvia we don't drive those crappy cars!

  • клоунада

  • Tatras actually were good cars. Jay Leno knows it and even owns one.

  • This is proof why the free market rules. Better cars and competition.

  • OH NOES TEH ACCENT

  • I loved the USSR

  • The Gaz Chaika is awesome

  • the Trabi at 3:04 is not Russian its German lol

  • @Boocho88

the wartburg and the trabant where made in the gdr

  • what song @2:15

  • @timppa600 tchaikovsky's 1812 overture

  • Isn't Andy Willman TG's producer? I had no idea he was one of the hosts on old TG.

  • @ftpaddict and he was a porn star

he admitted it in the old top gear is 21th birthday

  • What no GAZ 12 ZIM ??????, My grandfather had one....truck engine, 3 gears +R, , 9 seats (limousine like..), masive, black, and full of chrome .

  • Total crap, they just try to make fun!

  • they can do anti-communist propaganda with everything

  • @crislsd I`m agree. It´s funny, but it´s the english establishment´s still so afraid of communism? I hate these "elite"liers...

  • 2:34 shows the GAZ-69.

  • Among those cars, that drove out,you could see a military green jeep. Now thats the place, where soviet machinery starts to prove itself. Its the GAZ-69 4x4 and its capable of beating any Range or Land Rover.Oh and you wont need anything more complicated than a rock or a hammer or a wrench to fix it.

  • @Henzzman capable to beat any Range or Land Rover??? alright, i admit, i have never driven any soviet or post-soviet car, but to beat any rangie or especially Land Rover Defender you must have enough experience to say it. they may be better than any fake offrader BMW or Mercedes makes nowadays, but definitely nowhere near the Land Rover or the rangie.

  • Its very reliable for starters. And it can climb better and its better in mud too.I myself own a Kraz-255B truck, google it and you will see what kind of offroading that thing could do.

  • @Henzzman Nice, man big Ukrainian truck got any vids of it?

  • @VoteNixonIn69 Nope, because im not going to ruin a perfect truck with a crap vga camera.Mine is a flatbed version.

  • @Dragsteryourself im from the soviet union..their cars were so uncomfortable and hard to drive...the onlt good thing is they last literally FOREVER

  • what's the name of the tune from 6:31? please tell me.... thanx

  • Yeah that's a good idea. Underestimate the Soviets....

  • what would they have in 10 years? a Chrysler Sebring =D

  • Chaika is now a classical car. A lot of people rent it for their weddings. So did i. Esspesially that my surname is Chaika )))

  • i would love to make a commy hotrod

  • Yeah those Commie wheels were pretty badski, especially when the hood/bonnet lever says "Kaput"! I guess that's what happened to you, your car, or both if you opened it.

  • It doesnt say "Kaput", It sais "Kapot", which is russian for "hood"

Topgear were just making a joke

  • Alright, I'll give you that, which isn't much of a relief because "kapot" is Dutch for broken, which is probably what those motors did quite often.

  • no, I totally agree with you, soviet cars are crap :D

Many people after getting new Lada's had to pretty much take them apart and put them back together again, making sure that all the screws were tight lol

  • @kristijonazz Then it still is a good joke for us Dutch though. Kaput is the German word for broken, and Kapot is de Dutch word for broken. :P

  • scooter engine in the old car dude

  • about that ''lack of mechanical knowledge wich they where not given'' it is so untrue... any owner of a car in that time going on longer trip had sets of tools some spairs and easly could fix allmost everything... nobody used garages in that time... top gear think that if they were poor so allso had to be dumb...

  • what a load of dumb, unfunny horseshit

  • he should have driven the Tatra 603!:(

  • I totally get the appeal of Soviet cars. They are a rebuke to the mindless complexity of modern cars. I look down my nose at the hordes of soulless modern cars whilst driving my pristine VW Beetle!

I wouldn't mind having a Chaika M-14. It's has more modern lines and amenities than the Soviet copy of the Packard Clipper, the M-13.

  • I must say that I really do like that Chaika. Really nice looking vehicle. One thing that I am not crazy about it is the push button transmission.

  • Good as always.

  • LOL!!!! oh man the newer top gear they did this too.
