@cherriebee1 he'll probably use it at night if u jusst leave it in his cage. i had the same problem with my hedgehog but now he loves his wheel. just let him figure it out by himself.
@nhgoalie7 nooo he doesn't :( we've had him for nearly a year now and he just won't use it! he did when we first got him but he ran so fast it came apart and he fell out of it (haha) but i think he's scared of it now! poor little hog. thanks for the reply :)
on oct 21 2011 Im going on a field trip to the zoo for my school and they have hedgehogs we get to pet them and hold them and love them it will be my first time holding one Im so happy!!eeeeek!!!!! SCWEAK !!!!!!!
Like everyone is saying, bigger wheel. But also make sure there are no crossbars because sometimes when running a hedgie will look to the side and well crossbars could literally take the hedgehogs head off... :/
how big is your wheel in inches? im not complaining im just worried mine is too small like maybe even smaller then yours :P i hope its not i dont want to be hurting my lil hedgie anyway he obviously seems happy :)
They do at first, before you get use to them. But even after you do, sometimes they hurt a little. But not much to cry about :). Rather get a hedgehog prick then a vaccine needle lol :).
Cute video! You did good so far! PVC tube= happy hedgie! A bigger wheel might be better. Mine use whisper wheels. (Go to hedgehogs by Vickie) I just got that caging for mine to play in, but I just saw a video of one managing to climb out. So, you might want to watch them carefully when playing in that.
They're both really bad for the hedgehog. The size causes strain on their spines which can lead to problems later on, and the bars on the side can hurt your hedgie as they can trip on them.
Normal size ones (for hamsters) are found in stores, but sometimes depending on where you live (me knowing because I to checked all my stores.). Could not find a wheel that was a safe size for my hedgehog. However, I did find one by luck when going into Petco and getting one that was 24inches. But, the people in the store said most likely to find a larger wheel is to search online.
By the way I am very happy that everybody is concerned about him and I am glad to get all the tips, he is also very happy for all the help, I am sure he appreciates all his hedgehog safe toys now
I didnt know anything about hedgehogs when I first got him, about a week before this video was taken. So just to let everyone know he does have a bigger wheel thanks :)
Very cute hedgehog, looks happy and well taken care off ;) But like some others have pointed out, the wheel looks to small. A normal sized hedgehog needs a wheel that is minimum 12 inches and bigger hogs needs 15 inches, and without the side bars. You scould look for a bucket type wheel ;) But other than that it was a joy to watch ;)
Evry thing you got for the little hedghog is great but one prob. The wheel has bars on the out side of the wheel. Hedgehogs have been known to stick there head out while runing and get face injurys. So you should get a bucket typ wheel to be safe.
That wheel is too small for that hedgehog, but it's good for them. you can tell it's happy though, and that's what really matters, just know that your hedgie can get back damage from a small wheel. Thanks for being a caring hedgehog owner! :D
Well, the wheel might be a bit small, but they are not 'very dangerous'. My hedgehog has a similar one; custom-made by a family who run a hedgehog rescue. They are as safe as any other wheel can be, because falling, wheels trapping hedgies and so on can happen.
The bucket wheels have two huge disadvantages, the bigger one being hygiene. Hedgies pee and poop while they run. The bucket wheels gather that stuff into the infamous poopie boots.
I have a hedgehog thats 4 months old now and he never seems to be able to figure out what to do with a wheel. If I set him in it he just sits there or trys to crawl out. Any suggestions?
i bought my hedgie a wheel but it was made for hamsters , lol, and this bar thing stuck out and my hedgie had to incline her back and....ugh we returned the wheel...and btw cute music on the video!
Doesnt he dig when hes outside? Id love to let my hedgie have some fresh air but Im worried he'll dig...

i dont know how to get her to start running somebody please help me
