One of the great things oil has made possible is dropping a great big stinking load on top of another great big stinking load that some other guy left unflushed. You know some poor bastard is going to have to unclog that toilet and you're just glad it's not you. So you throw your last wipe on top of the fetid turd you've left and dispatch one last fart, sigh and buckle up feeling like a new man. Thank God for gas station bathrooms!
To experience some real cognitive dissonance after watching this video, turn on NPR or CNN at the top of the hour. You'll hear or see news stories about everything in the world that isn't relevant. MSM is completely clueless.
The domestic quantity of oil he's talking about is just the oil we can pump out with then-current means of drilling, not the total amount that exists in the US. Don't get me wrong, I'm not pro fossil fuels, but there's always some earring wearing pussy ranting about the next doomsday scenario.Kunstler spoke at my college in 2003, and explained that within a decade americans would rely heavily on water as a means of transportation. It's been nearly 8 years, and I still don't know any gondoliers..
Really? From where I stand, most earring wearing pussies seem to be addicted to shopping and international travel. They're not explicitly pro-oil either but at the same time many of them, like you, doubt a reality where oil is scarce will ever come into being.
The most fundamental question of all: What is the underlying law of nature.
.
As the way of all things, what effect do you suppose its question, knowledge, understanding and application by billions of persons will have on the state of global economics, science, the humanities, education, government and business?
I am only on page 25 of this 307 paged book much of what is written is spot on he predicted page 18 that suburban subdivisions will become the slums of the future this already hapening. If I were to build a home today I would build the monolithic dome home the home uses 1/3the energy but it is projected to last centuries. We still have millions of containers they will be of great service post peak.
The Long Emergency is the only book you need to read on the subject...His World Made by Hand is also highly recommended...It takes place 25 years past peak in upstate New York and life is totally different than today....
I found it amazing how many youtube US citizens are so often confident and proud of their system and stuff, of human and american superiority, their world being perfect... as if they were living in a bubble sometimes, ..creationism, anti-environmentalism, oil-for-ever dreamers ...etc
It is not their fault, since USA Corporation creations they have been planning in maneuver and control their minds with TVs programs ignorance Hollywood and even the major media.
This also happens in UK the British people believe their monarchy its rather symbolical than anything else, as they have no clue that the Royal family owns Australia, Israel, and USA. And also keeps its people ignorant as well.
We can hope that these people kill each other but sadly they'll take many of us with them. What I've learned from observing terrorism in the Middle East for the last ten years is to never underestimate desperate people. They' re capable of anything, except rational behavior. In other words, the terrorism of the future will be in the form of hungry fellow citizens.
@yacetube Agreed. The self-assured nature is astounding. I wonder how many Americans would think we were 'exceptional' as people if they had grown up in the mid-1800's before oil. The days when killing a Chinese railroad worker might result in nothing more than some stern words from the local police. Life was hard and living standards were meager. At least the majority of us weren't obese.
And I supose that somebody told you that...It must be true! I tell what matey go find the Hirsh Report, read it, understand it, and then listen to this again! This is why its called the long emergency, because it will not happen over-night but before you know this world will be heading for disaster. If you ask yourself one question ask this. Is oil Finite?

oil is finite if you belive in the "dinosaurs and plants died and slowly turned to oil theory."
New evidence has come to light that there is no way that the volume of oil already consumed pluss that remaining could have been produced by such organic means. There simply wasn't enough biomass.
The current theory is that oil formation is a natural process wherein it wells up from deep and slowly seeps to the surface. It is a natural process of the planet to produce this material. !;-)
Really...are you sure, I would love to know where that information came from, or who has come up with that theory, please do tell... even if that was true what about all the pollution oil produces and the amount of contamination it causes to water. I look forward to any information that you could provide in the mean time please read about M Hubbert King a geologist who came did all the sums. In fact look at Oil production figures in the good old USA, its there in black & white.
Is it the Long Emergency, the Kinda Long Emergency or the Seemingly Long Emergency? How long is it? Why don't we just call it the Doggone Long Emergency?
the ignorance of some of these postings certainly helps to clarify why we have been dragging our collective feet for so long and how the U.S. citizenry can elect a fool like George W Bush.
What? You expected the people who thought that they won World War Two (Let's waste tons of money killing off loads of people who look like us, act like us and think like us so that we can later let in loads of people who don't look like us, don't act like us and hate us!) to think in a straight line for five minutes? Bush isn't a fool, for he's leaving the Oval Office FAR richer than before. He played the fool for eight years and now he's running with the money. His supporters were/are fools.
this book has helped me organize my priorities. No, I'm not growing a garden and riding a bike. I'm burning even more gas than ever. No, not for business or volunteer work, but just because I can. Just because the price will only go up from here.
I'm a dinosaur, an endangered species, I am "Hydrocarbon asshole man" A monumentally narcissistic, wasteful glutton with a big truck, complete with gun rack and country music selection. Anthropoligists will marvel at my utter amorality. FILL ER UP!!
I hear ya. The other day I went for a 250 mile drive in my V8 muscle car. Over two mountain passes and three different climates. It's only going to get more expensive. Might as well get some good memories now.
hey daniel, if you wanna see a V8 lover's video, search for mad max motorhead. awesome video. Ace of Spades soundtrack and super edit of classic Road Warrior insanity.
Kunstler rocks! When the moiling masses realize that the past generations have eatin their twinkies, there will be no forgiveness. The jeezuz freaks have been programmed for ignorance. It is a pandemic of dumassery.
I believe you are wrong. The jeezuz freaks are the ones stocking up because they know what is going on. You have to remember that they have freedom of thought as well. Ignorance knows no boundaries and can be found across all religious lines and boundaries. Some people just do not know. They have not been exposed to peak oil theory and other truths that are self evident. This is caused by the fictional environment most people grow up in a.k.a. public education.
Interesting, eiffel tower things are used for oil wells, water wells, and electric lines.

What a lie!
There is an estimated 5.3 billion barrels of oil in the Williston basin!
Enough to fuel the U.S. demand for the next 41 years.
GO SEE: Oil! - Why your going broke at the pump!
SEE THE TRUTH!
