Part of the problem is the English Language. The only two words we have for sounds made intentionally on musical instruments are "music" or "noise," both of which are deeply judgmental and prejudiced words. (Beethoven's 9th is also music; the trash collector is also noise.)
"All technically very salubrious but as music: Man it leaves a freakin lot to be desired." That's because it was intentionally composed to undermine the principles by which you most likely assess music you 'like'
Sixalienasa: "Sounds like a mouse pottering around in a Bell Making Factory after dark, while under the influence of some heavy rat poison." and why would I not want to hear that?

@Sixalienasa You see, even Stochhausen's work for conventional instruments sounds as... unconventional. Nevertheless people consider him one of the most prominent composers of classical/academic music of the XXth century.
so eerie and borderline creepy, i know it's not meant to be a song but the sounds are just weird. I'd love to see how general american public from the 40's/50's would react to a modern eletronic dance song. they'd probably be like "What the devil is that noise ? turn that preposturous thing off"
It is one thing to make electric sound, its another thing to arrange this sound in a way that it actually sounds good. But i dont think that this was his intention here.
@bitchbitchbaconbacon "Noise" is a perceptual category, not a reality. Each listener hears a sound which is just that - a sound. In order to make some sort of sense, the listeners then compare that sound to a bank of sounds stored in their memories. If it matches a known pattern, their perception is then shaped to see it as similar as those, and thus perhaps similar in meaning. If not, the listener might accept it as new and useful, or value it negatively as "noise."

If I would want to listen to some real music what would I listen?hmmmmmm....... probably not some things that an IDIOT is experimenting on!!!Listen to some music instead of sounds! What would the real composers say?Damn you ppl!
I think the "real" composers would also be interested in learning the science behind the music that they create. Perhaps this isn't "real music" with passion and feeling, but it is an experiment that helps people gain a better understanding of sound, so that they can compose better music.
@greekathanasios What you have now due to that research in electronic music are the genres of techno, dubstep, house, drum and base, and others---and millions of people employed worldwide at clubs to sustain the nightlife of major cities, of which electronic music is not the least part. Wasted energy? Well, if you consider the universe an enthropy machine then yes, undoubtedly so. But Karlheinz Stockhausen is a major player in modern cultural landscape.
@a314658 hi! Karlheinz Stockhausen gives to the rich emotions that do not want to live in real life ...
sounds and musical notations dating back to a reality that only the deprived, needy and ignorant really experienced ... so they have the money, the feelings, but not the effects them very reality ...Karlheinz Stockhausen is the salt in the rich people's soup

Sometimes I think the only innovation is writing "music" at the top of the page.

I'm so glad I studied classical music for 10 years before I pursued DJing because I see all the connections and rhizomes even.

why would anyone listen to this? how can you possibly call it musik, i would rather listen to a kid banging the shit out of a piano
horbergaren 11 months ago
@horbergaren
You should have read the explanations on the video before saying this, you could have understood...
Music is just sound that you decide to create, that you control. The way those sounds have been produced requires a really big amount of work.
At least 50% of the music produced today uses some technics, or anything else, used in this song.
You can like it or not, you can understand it or not, but you can't say it's not music.

Utter brilliance, I say.
I suspect this is what the aliens will sound like when they try to explain to us why they are taking over our planet.
