I spent a lot of time in Lava when I was a kid. The only thing that has changed is the river used to run wild through the center of town.  We used to throw popcorn in the river, which would be immediately snapped up by salmon jumping out of the water. But in the 80's they got tired of the threat of flood and sealed it through town.
