Interesting video from the early days in its authentic look with single chimney. I really like the sound of her when shes in single chimney as it gives louder beats.
I know the Kylchap chimney makes for more efficiency, but there's still nothing like the sound of a single-chimney Gresley for me. That opening sequence on Eardington Bank sums it up - the sound and the sheer elegance. Incidentally, does anyone else like the photos of the very early pacifics with the taller GNR chimneys? I know I'm odd, but I think they're better-proportioned like that!
Thanks Jules! I well remember how excited I was to see the A3 for the first time, even though many people at the time were commenting on how run down it was after it had returned from Australia in 1989. I would have been amazed to know in 1990 that less than 5 years later I would get to drive it, though of course it looked very different as 60103 by then.
woa you're like one of them lucky legendary who have drove the engine the only times i've seen it are in 1994/6 when it visited nvr (i was too little to remember but my dad got footage and 7819 was visiting from SVR at the same time)
the only other times i've seen it are in the nrm (in peices)
