  • Looks like he's been that Tele for at least 1500 years.

  • Great playing but this teaches you nothing. He talks about who he's played with, tunes up and that's it. Funny but a total waste of time.

  • @MrChrisastin It's just a clip, stupid. You learn more by learning things by ear than by a lesson anyway.

  • coolest bass player in the world - hahahaha love it.

  • Ey, look at that bass player. Looks like he's riding a camel! :D

  • @32251 True but you have to admire George (Carlin) for giving it a shot.

  • i play metal and blues,so nobody can say that i dont know how to play with feel.my solos have alot of blues incorporated into them.i hate when people say that metal guitarists just wank around on the guitar, and only Slipknot wears masks.sorry, for my ranting

  • I don't know how one can play a guitar better than brent mason. I've seen so many videos, there's just nothing that can be done better!

  • Can v have the next part of this video now.. pleease

  • @alijav091

you could buy a copy-- it's commercially available.

  • Favourite Spot: 3:45, "I thought I was in tune," [says with a smile].

  • @Jeari, my favorite guitar players joke is when they're outta tune and say "it was in tune when i bought it!" LOL!

  • @abrockmexico the name of this song is HOT WIRED

  • ' HI I am Brent Mason.. and I am awesome '

  • Brent Mason! What a player!!! Fantastic!!!

  • Whyd they pick such a garb bass player to play with brent mason on this dvd? that wasnt even close to a country bass solo.

  • Hi does anyone know the name of this song? thanks

  • @abrockmexico Hot Wired

  • @Bryantkh13 Thank you very much

  • WOAH! Bass player is totally high on the vibes brah!

  • is the rest of this video available somewhere?

  • Hey, I play metal DrookNun!!! But I also play blues and jazz!!! So suck it! lol

  • Western Swing ? Sounds like practicing scales with a band backing him . Still cool .. I don't no about "Western Swing"... Nashville cockhead , O.k. . All respect to his style .. He gets it done!

  • Wow his sound has changed alot.

  • Speed is not equal to talent. Roy Clark, for instance, played faster than this cat, but played the melody and played great licks (not nameless filler.)

Not impressed, altho he seems like a nice guy. Listen to Doc Watson, Tony Rice, David Grier. Hendrix, Segovia...

  • Jesus that Bass player annoys the shit out of me. He isn't even playing anything complex, riveting, or soulful. How the hell did he get a gig playing with Brent Mason?

  • @capitalismforme He runs the union now. His name is Dave Pomeroy. He is a good guy, I've done a few sessions with him. Lets just say he is great at running the union and leave it at that ;)

  • @SuperGuitarman69 Thanks for the info.

  • well once you consider the ratio of the clean notes he played compare to that one note he missed !!! i think he passed the test :D

  • The bass player is perfectly fine. He plays tons of roots, 3rd, and 5ths to clearly outline the harmony of the song. Just because some of you don't know what you're listening to doesn't make it bad.

  • bassplayers an r-tard

  • bassplayers an r-tard

  • can imagine this bass player getting much work after this clip

sucks ... cause he's probably great ... just under rehearsed for this

  • a la danny gatton.............

  • LOL, yeah the vid is a teaser.

  • What the heck was that bass solo??? Pretty goofy.

  • @32251 What the heck was that sweater?! Really goofy.

  • @32251 I 2nd that one!! lol

  • AHHH! I WANTED TO CATCH THAT RHYTHM LICK AT THE END!!! I guess I should go buy it now lol

  • Why the f@#k would someone who was at a level where they would even consider buying this video need to tune their guitar or be shown how pop'n a string works. This posting polishes helmet!!!!

  • @redloks5 agree about tuning, but chicken picking popping a bass rhythm is classic, from Dave Dudley to Brad Paisley. He's showing lots more than he's saying. Take lots of watches to take it all in. eg uses index finger to pop it. How does he mute? Does he ever use thumbpick to pop? etc. I'll buy this.

  • I bought this many years ago, and then got it again on DVD. It's great to watch but as for instructional...riiight. I also ran across Steve Wariner's instrumental album "No More Mr. Nice Guy" Ray Flacke, Roy Nichols, Roy Buchanan, the list goes on and on. I love the telecaster.

  • All i have to say is.....strat for sale...cheap! I love Rhoads and Van Halen, but this guy is awesome! Although he doesn't play them in this video, his jazz chops are out of this world. Very Benson.

  • Yeah, the "western swing" section of the video mops the floor with the country section. I don't think most people realize how good his jazz chops are.

  • That's Nashville studio dude Dave Pomeroy on bass

  • 1:02

  • Watch the whole vid, he's great, he plays an electric 5 string fretless later on during the jazz section...pure class. Either way, he's a studio musician who has played with countless artists.

  • Did anyone pick up on his mistake at 2.17/18

  • why would anyone focus on a mistake when there are so many great licks to enjoy???

  • @jayarch1315

God had to make him play one mistake, cause otherwise they'd be equals

  • @Quikfingers heyy, don´t underestimate the guy, all his mistakes are intended u.u If god wanted to play guitar he´d choose Brent as his teacher. lol

  • @jayarch1315

hahaha I never noticed that before.

Of course as a true pro he doesn't loose it

  • @jayarch1315 mistakes are interesting! ;)

  • @jayarch1315 Mistakes are apart of music. It's what separates them from computer music. If you want mistake free, go listen to electronica. Furthermore, it really isn't considered mistake when it's coming from the guy who wrote the song. He kinda has the right to put in as many or as little "mistakes" as he wishes.

  • @jayarch1315

hah the mistake really doesn't matter

  • hhaha yes!

  • @jayarch1315 yeah, but did you pick up on how he he carries on like the consummate pro? haha.

  • @jayarch1315 Depends on the definition of mistake...

  • @jayarch1315 does anyone care. he's f-in' Brent Mason

  • @jayarch1315 yep, but still that was a kick ass piece he played..

  • @jayarch1315 it wasnt a mistake

  • this is why i love country, all those metal shredders can play fast on distortion but i bet you they cant play this as clean as brent mason if they were on a clean channel. if your fast and clean on a clean sound like this, then distortion will only sound better when added. but if you learn the other way around, it can really hurt you in the long run. brent is the man, so is eric johnson :)

  • exacrtly man. you take away the metal kids pedals and they're nothing.

Plus the fact Brent Mason doesn't have to dress up and wear masks and scream to play music, which when you think about it, is absolutely rediculous.

  • Couldnt agree more!!

  • @jayarch1315 - Yes, I also agree man, too feckin right!

  • yes Brent is a genius, but while I agree with what has been said about many shredders using distortion to hide mistakes, I feel that you have generalized a bit... first off there are players who play metal oriented music who have a great sense of articulation and are excellent clean-pickers (they got it from other styles but its still there). plus the bands that wear masks and scream aimlessly aren't actual metal bands, they're trend-followers. the real metal bands know how to show some class

  • @DookNun I can and cant agree with ya, I was the guitarist for TINJ and Fluwid (metal bands) but I have recently went country, and I'm so excited about getting into a new style its not even funny. Ive been playing guitar for 21 years, check out my vids and lemme know if that comment applies to players like me, the only reason im saying something is because thats kinda discouraging but motvating at the same time. Im blown away by Brent, and Albert Lee especially, he's the Steve Vai of country lol

  • @DavefromTinj Yo man, don't be discouraged by my comments!! I just personally find, if you plug a guitar into a metal rig and start soloing it's infinitely easier than playing some good chickin' pickin'!

I've never been a fan of metal as I'm all about the melody. But hey we all are our own!

You want a good track to learn - First rule of thumb by brent mason. Should keep you busy for a few days (or weeks in my case!!!)

  • @DookNun Man there's nothing that can touch some good country soloing, i got Guitar Rig 4 about 4 months ago and thats what we're using to record this album for the country band im in, and it has some incredible presets for country, as well as every other style of music you would wanna play, just the sound that them guys get from their rigs creates the whole atmosphere for some badass riffage. Brent is an insanely good player, def. one of them guys thats born with it, Roy Clark is another one

  • @DookNun you are so right! thank you for sayin it!!!

  • @DookNun best comment ever! so true!!

  • @DookNun while that may be true for the most part, there are some "metal kids" who know what they're doing. I've seen some damn fine jazz and country guys that would get F'ed in the A if they tried playing with distortion through a loud amp. keeping that shit under control and minimizing string noise is tough.

you're absolutely right about fags like slipknot though. that's why the metal kids who know what they're doing hate those retards as much as anyone else.

  • @DookNun there's good players in every genre. plenty of good metal players

  • @fromthenorthwest I'll take Brent Mason over any of them any day of any week. :)

  • @DookNun what a great video your finally about to learn somethin and its over

  • @DookNun Music is entertainment. If people dressing up in masks entertains someone, are they not entertained anymore so than you are when you watch this.

The fact that you like this music doesn't make it any superior.

  • @DookNun "you take away the metal kids pedals and they're nothing."

You must know exactly what you're talking about.

  • @DookNun try getting that brent mason sound without pedals or effects.... you hear the stomp compressor, delay and reverb right?

  • @DookNun i love metal but this too.

  • The bass player is hilarious. Looks like he's almost gonna fall over in some places.

  • where's the rest of it?

  • Is that Randy Mason in drums? The drummer has tight grip in his playing.

  • great pickin

  • That chicken pickin' thang, man!!!
