  • What an explanation of war between Gods and demons, this is why through westerners eyes everything is battle. They are doing 'Samudra manthan', that is churning of sea, the snake was used as a rope and the turtle as a base to keep the shaft.

  • Aninanor has been drinking yaba in a slum place in Bangkok.

  • I did not have any contact in Cambodia. I did backpacking and stayed at The Siem Reap Hostel, Wot Bo, Angkor School Road. Used internet extensivel to plan my visit. Hope this helps.

  • when you visit cambodia please go for the right reasons.Enjoy our food, learn our culture, tour angkor wat bond with the people.DON'T COME HERE AND HURT INNOCENT GIRLS AND RUIN THE NAME OF CAMBODIA THANK YOU

  • royal order of kampuchea

  • i wish cambodia can get strong again, all the best.

  • beautiful

  • Over a continuous process of assimilation of cultures, new civilizations and empires rose up and the foremost among them was the mighty Khmer Empire, which apart from being powerful excelled in the arts and sculptures

which can even be seen today in the numerous Hindu temples spread across Indo-China, culminating in Angkor -Wat.

  • I'm a Hindu from India. Angkor Wat is the largest non-functioning Hindu temple in the world. Hinduism is generally associated with India (Bharat). However, I'm feeling proud that Hinduism was practiced in the present day Cambodia for many centuries back. I'm on my first visit to Angkor Wat the next week and looking forward to witnessing this magnificent temple thru my own eyes. And also looking forward to meeting and learning about Khmer culture.

  • do you know how to read in sanskirt? cause a lot of writing on ancient Khmer temple are in sanskirt and in ancient khmer writing

  • The Khmer scripts in Angkor Wat are not Sanskrit.

    They are totally Khmer writing.

  • Just an effort to let u guys get an idea about the origin of the ancient south and south east Asian civilizations. The ancient Hindu sailors from the eastern parts of India, then known as the Kalinga Empire had trade relations with the far south and south east Asia extending even to China Gradually they settled down in the lands which we know today as Indo-china plus the islands of Bali,Java, Sumatra and Borneo.

  • Come on DangersMines, Some of Khmer's ancient scripts were written in Sanskrit. It's true! We have to admit that.

  • Rothima,

    I dont deny that.

Before Angkor Wat, Khmer wrote in the Sanskrit meaning with the Khmer alphabets, Khmer vowels and Khmer numerals, but starting from Angkor Wat, Khmer have been writing totally in Khmer. You got to admit that.

  • I also agreed with ur argument. It's true that Khmer use Sanskrit and Bhali with our own alphabet, i'm proud that our Khmer alphabet is registered in Guinness Book of World records in 1995 as the longest and largest set of alphabets.

However, the language became Khmer but some words read as the sound of Sanskrit.

I really admit what i am proud to be!

  • Khmer own the sound of Sanskrit heritage in Cambodia because the Khmer King Kaudinya and the Khmer King Kambu were the originated of the Sanskrit.

  • Because Khmer ancestor were Indian-Khmer so they had to use Sanskrit and Khmer.

  • Nowadays, even Khmers are Buddhist, but some form of Hinduism still exist in Khmer believes and cultures.

U can find more information about Khmer culture from the Net, yet don't believe some lairs who wrote some staffs that is not true.

And I'm glad that u r going to visit Cambodia.

    អរគុណ! Or Khun! Thank You!

  • Like I've mentioned earlier, I had the good fortune of visiting Siem Reap and visited Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, Banteay Srei, Ta Prohm, Bayon, Kbal Spean, Bakheng Hill and many more. If I've to sum-up in one word....it was just Marvelous!!

My favourite have been Kbal Spean, Banteay Srei for its intense sculpting and Angkor Wat for its sheer size! I've been telling all my friends to plan a visit to Siem Reap soon!!!

    Thanks / Or Khun!!

    Venkatesh

  • I did go through with immense interest the script on the walls (esp at Banteay Srei) and I can tell you with enough confidence that the lang is "Sanskrit" based. When I say "Sanskrit-based", I'm referring to a language which has Sanskrit as its root. For instance, most of the languages in India (barring Tamil and some of the other Dravidian language) others have a strong root language as Sanskrit.

  • Let me also tell you that Sanskrit is almost extinct in present day India, & if we track diff periods of time, we get to see languages in India very very similar to that found in Angkor!

  • Finally, my interactions with the locals have been very pleasent. I do not think they were warm and friendly just because I was a tourist, but I found them to be genuinely warm! (You have found a friend in me out here in India!)

I'd like to see Cambodia grow in material wealth too.......as we all know that Cambodia is defintely rich in culture and their unique customs!!!

I am planning to visit Cambodia again, to visit Preah Vihar!!

    Venkatesh

  • Last, we're glad to welcome u visiting the king of wonder, Cambodia.

  • when you visit cambodia, did you go thru and angent or do you have family members there? thanks for the warm feed back on your trip. i've been wanting to take my little boy to go visit, but not really sure what to expect.

  • I agreed with you. Sanskrit was used by Khmer for many centuries esp with region of Hinduism.

Sanskrit couldn't be read by simple Khmer citizen in ancient time. Only Bhrama (Pream / ព្រាហ្ម), Royal ranges (Kings), and high class Khmer who had high education.

Recent days, Sanskrit appears in Khmer language only in forms of technical words, special words and others. But Khmer also uses Bhali(បាលី) in our language.
