  • 14 people still play conventional mouthpieces.

  • who is that at 3:18?

  • MANNY LAUREANO!!!

  • goddammit shut the hell up Hession. no one wants to hear that garbage. christ its like his horn is crying out in agony...

  • @guitarsrmine is that the 2nd guy playing?

  • Who are the guys in the insane double tonging section of the vid :o is the music from Scheherazade?

  • Wyyyyynton :3

  • 13 dislikes stupid woodwind players

  • i wish i could scream on my trumpet.

  • every 30 seconds they showed this guy blasting his guts out... haha

  • Anyone knows what's the piece at 1.32 ?

  • Comment removed

  • @Lchsmb2009 uh....that's only Charlie Schleuter. Probably one of the best trumpeters EVER. He was joking around.

  • My trumpet Yamaha is old. I'm thinking about monette's trumpets and mouthpieces.

  • What is the first guy playing? It sounds more like a flugelhorn but it looks a lot narrower than other flugelhorns I've seen.

  • @MitchMb14 Its called a flumpet. It is like a flugelhorn/trumpet. That is Scotty Barnhart jazz teacher at FSU.

  • Who let trombones on this video?!?!

  • hey, here's a thought for you... when you listen to a lead player, you should expect to hear screaming.

hard to get your heads around that concept, i know.

  • BONITO SONIDO

  • Second dude who played is like a replica of arturo sandoval..lol

  • at 0:30 its fuckin crazy :O =)

  • 2:35-2:42 .... that is oh so sweet

  • What are they playing at 1:23?

  • I think it is schererazade

  • Hey joshmx28-do you even know what music is? Obviously not with a comment like that. Do you play an instrument? Do you know anything about what you are talking about? I doubt it.............

  • trombones ftw? o.o

  • Yeah Nicholas Payton!

  • dude hessions a waste of music! hahah he plays stuff so high that its not even like music

  • agree

  • WTF???? He does what he does best????????????? If you call being nothing but a screaming Maynard wannabe best,ok-but there are more things than screaming until glass breaks-listen to Chris Botti!!!

  • Ew, why would you pick pop sellout douche chris botti?

  • @joshmx28 I used to feel the same way about Botti (maybe not as harshly worded haha) until I saw him live. He's a marketing genius. He puts out the albums he does to gain fans (A LOT of soccer moms) and then when you see him live he plays real jazz charts. And not only does he play them, he teaches you about the history and traditions. It's awesome. BTW if you ever have the chance to see him live do it. He plays a lot of pop on albums but man can he burn some changes!

  • @scrmtrumpet Im sure Chris Botti is fine I must have been annoyed with him when I wrote that. I know you can't get to the level he is at unless you are really good!

  • Patrick Hesson grates on my nerves-all I ever hear him do is scream.

  • he does what he does best

  • agree. he plays like a dousche.

  • @guitarsrmine and it's not even that clean.

  • @guitarsrmine yea. its really annoying bc unlike adam rapa, who can scream alot, adam sounds amazing doing it and it isnt all he does. patrick hession screams constantly and it gets just plain annoying.

  • @guitarsrmine Amen dude!

  • @guitarsrmine buthes so good at it :)

  • lol i love how when maynard makes the joke about double tonguing the scheherazade clip comes in.

  • lol dont you just love the one random trombone clip in the middle

  • 0:23 Pat Hession has such an amazing range.

  • What is your opinion about B6? :)

  • Hit! You sunk my battleship!

  • BINGO!

  • Isa that Marvin Stamm with the beard?

  • Nope - the guy with MF is Charles Schlueter.

  • The second guy played in Maynards band a few years ago.

  • man those wynton vids are killin

  • who would thumbs down wynton vids

  • What's the name of the latino/arabian (cant tell) guy who plays the c trumpet?

  • Manny Laureano - Principal Trumpet, Minnesota Orchestra

  • how can you tell its a c trumpet?

  • Because the sound is much brighter than a b flat, and because the leadpipe is shorter, and because he's a symphony player and they play on c's most of the time. All the excerpts he played are meant for c trumpet.

  • shorter leadpipe

  • 2:24.......thank you pat for playing it the way maynard does...............NOBODY does it like that........props my man

  • damn

    1:23.

    wow.

  • 5:06-5:24 sounds like a king entering a castle

  • 5:06-5:24 is Shostakovich

  • hey you know what? Screaming is not at all bad. I love music in the upper register. Just because all you may hear is shit in the upper register doesn't mean you knock it

  • @unigamehead If you're talking about everyone hating Patrick Hession, its because he does nothing but scream, and his style of screaming has no style and its just noise. everyone else actually has some talent

  • 4:25

    god damn interloping trombone players

  • well look him up and listen to him. and besides, thats all hes paid to do.

  • u need to calm down, i play trumpet too!!! so before you fucking start yellin at people for expressing their opinions, why dont you go back to fucking nazi germany and be Hitler's fucking lap dog you fucking single minded fuck (not meant to offed any jewish people)

  • More poor videography from dave monette, but he makes awesome trumpets, and boy does manny laureano sound great!

  • excuse me that's how trumpets sound

  • what the fuck is up with the screamer in the blue polo shirt in the warehouse looking place. I think he was the second one, but then they just kept showing him... Just a horrid sound

  • Comment removed

  • Is this a joke? Hal of this people either sound like shit, or Monette made them sound like shit..

  • are YOU joking? have you ever played a monette? such an easy horn to play.

  • I have experience with several models. Not impressed at all.

  • That's too bad! I thought they were beautiful pieces of engineering. I agree to disagree.

  • It help's being able to play trumpet to really experience a Monette

  • Comment removed

  • lol, I can probably out play you, and my friends who are studio musicians in LA hate those horns. Maybe you should play on some of them instead of sucking on donkey dicks pretend you're not a fag.

  • Comment removed

  • Great Maynard!

  • the second guy sounds like a fucking theramin

  • wow... WOW!

  • I would rather be jerked off with sandpaper than listen to Patrick Hession play.

  • Really? I would prefer the opposite.

  • You'd rather jerk off with Patrick Hession than hear sandpaper play?

  • DANG! maynard ferguson used to be so skinny!

  • 6:40 Ron Miles

cool cat! i got to play on stage with him at a clinic Blue Monk it was a good time

  • Manny is frickin' amazing. Well, I mean they all are, but I mean .... damn.

  • n e one know the name of the solo at 5:28!

  • Arutunian Concerto for Trumpet

  • The Boss... is the man on this Vid. Keep screemin man!

  • ya PAT HESSION!

  • These gentlemen are absolutly amazing.

  • the big fat old white guy reminds me of my private instructor lol i love that old man... (nohomo)

  • you mean maynard ferguson? hes not jst a big fat old white guy, he's one of the greatest trumpeters who ever lived!

  • correction, greatest jazz/ newage trumpet player that ever lived,,, he would never survive in an orchestra,, haha thats a funny thought though

  • who would wanna survive in an orchestra, I'd take his life anyday

  • i did not think Charles Schlueter sounded good on that mahler 3 posthorn solo at all. Indeed, the video has some effect on the sound but still.....

  • Shlueter pimps this whole video

  • whats the song at 0:24?

  • dont let the sun go down on... Jay Chattaway's arr.

  • thx a lot

  • That dude has one hell of a bright sound.

  • And practically 0 control...

  • Pat Hession, really tasteful!!! That is why everybody hates trumpet players.

  • whats the song played at 6.10?

  • Scheherazade was tizight.

  • I didnt hear that anywhere.

  • wow im the 66666th person to watch this video.

    strange.

  • Cheapest horn is about 7500 dollars.

  • Actually the parana 1 and lt are around 4500 to 5000. They only give out pricing to serious buyers, or ppl willing to take the time to fake it lol.

  • According to their 2006 price list, their cheapest trumpet, the LT model, was $6400 (raw brass). The Prana 1 was $8950. Keep in mind that this was 2 years ago, so their prices are higher now. I'd say that the lowest price is now probably somewhere in the low- to mid-$7000's.

  • your absolutely right. i dug up the price sheet which is dated in 2007. im just going to copy an paste it

XLT, LT, LTJ, or STC-1 B-flat Trumpet (brass finish) ......$7,400 (the cheapest)

then most expensive would be the Ajna (C and B-flat) and Flumpet at 12,350

and they dont even give a price for SHAKTI, RAJA or SAMADHI lol. Sorry for the misleading info

  • What´s the starting price of a Monette? Is A monette really so outstanding and incomparable?

  • is that barnhart at the very beginning?

  • Yes! He's awesome!

  • thanks!

  • Listen to Schlueter's beautiful sound on Mahler 3. And Manny's clip of Mahler 5 3rd movement--what beautiful orchestral writing, Mahler.

  • who is the guy at 3:15?

  • Charles Schlueter, former principal of boston symphony

  • Who is the guy at 3:45? He plays in the upper register so effortlessly. Reminds me of Maurice Andre.

  • I think your are refering to Manny Laureano. He is Principal Trumpet of the Minnesota Orchestra.

  • 3:45 is PAtrick Hession former lead with Manyard, 3:46 is Manny Laureano

  • wow a bunch of trumpet gods :()

  • Steve Reid?

  • ...I meant Gonna Fly Now

  • Patrick Hession

  • Whos the dude playing Conquistador?

  • whats the name of the duet after the trombones played?

  • roberto zedinho?

  • que hace ernesto zedillo ahi??

  • good video

  • Who's the guy in the black/grey sweatshirt?

  • I think you are talking about Patrick Hession. He was the last lead player for Maynard before Maynard's death.

  • that would explain the maynard licks he was doing.. thanks!

  • Super film..

    Pozdrawiam

    Pablo

  • i love charlie schuleter sound

  • I saw the MF tour, Live At Jimmy's in the early 70's at orange coast college, california by suggestion of My band instructor and first trumpet coach. later,I sat 10-15 Ft. away from the end of his horn, while sitting on the ground at the Disneyland Carnation Plaza Garden Stage.I was there for 3 days, all sets, He was there 5 days, I was about 12. I saw Doc S. there too. MF inspired more than anyone along with hearing his 5 lead trumpet players. You HAVENT HEARD MF LIVE UNLESS IN THIS TIME PERIOD

  • actually, i think they're a really attractive horn.

  • agreed, i love that look.

  • they sound great though

  • God, I miss Maynard. Not just on the Monette but playing anything.

  • I like that sound...

  • I Like the solo of the 3rd Simphony Mahler jeje

  • wow i really like the first guy. who is that?

  • I am pretty sure that is scotty barnhart with the count basie orchestra

  • yea its scotty..check out his new videos at the monette shop after getting his new horn..its on here and on the monette website..

  • terence blanchard

  • or maybe not... looked like him though

  • ohmygod. jealous.

  • holy crap these guys are all crazy beasts... destroys my enigma to get up there..

  • god manny laureano is really freaking awesome.

  • its patrick hession, pretty awesome high chops, no doubt. But I don't know if he does anything legit, or in the staff for that matter.

  • Patrick is a very well rounded player, playing not only lead for Maynard, but also 2nd trpt for the International Orchestra. Legit and in the staff, with the same mpc! He is gifted!

  • maynard is ridiculous lol how is that like testing out a horn.. but who is the guy who is just like wailing up there at like fffffff

  • listen to wyntons early years.especially when he was 19. i highly suggest his angel eyes cd. and maynard when i first heard him, i thought he just played loud and high. but if you actally listen closly youll discover it is the biggest sound anyone has ever had. his sound is truly enormous

  • if wynton marsalis was not good at jazz, he would not be a jazz professor at jiulliard and be director of lincoln center jazz

  • Manny Laureano. He is principal trumpet with the Minnesota Orchestra.

  • haha, love the little bit tht was by doc

  • who is the black guy at about 2 21

  • this is driving me crazy. at the double tongueing duet at 1:23...is that from Scheherazade? it sounds so familiar but i cant figure it out.

  • yeah, its from scheherazade

  • yes.

  • haha i dont care what any of you say....Maynard was incredible through his whole life...and he could play anything. Those of you who think he could only do high notes...your wrong. He had incredible control through all of his range, and could play extremely beautifully. He in my mind is still king. But these other trumpet players are incredible as well, especially the classical duo.

  • I wonder how Maurice Andre would sound with a Monette?

  • Amogimatt...What's the deal with Maynard Ferguson. You jest. As for beauty of tone, listen to early MF ballads...or Darn That Dream from his last CD, "The One and Only" which was recorded only two weeks before his death.

  • Winton should stay with Dixeyland, he sounds sloppy, He does not have Maynards controll

  • lol. one of the wildest ive heard in a while.

  • Did someone really just say that?

It's not a matter of opinion who is better...

Listen to WYNTON's track 'The Magic Hour' if you want to listen to control. And then listen to his entire 'Carnival' CD that he recorded with the Eastman Wind Ensemble. No other man alive can do everything that he can do.

  • Listen to Sergei Nakariakov, you might change your mind.

  • Maybe 'cos I've just woke up hungover and feel like a rant. I know trumpet players watch this clip:

What is the big deal with Maynard Ferguson? I find him especially cringeworthy on this video. He can play high for sure and I've heard lots of recordings, but I have never warmed to his sound. On the other hand, Derek Watkins sound up there is something else.

Maynard is the 'last' player I would play to somebody to get them to like the sound of the trumpet.

  • Maynard is what one could call an acquired taste and most either love or hate him ... a trumpet player's guilty pleasure for sure. Keep in mind in this vid he is like 70 or so and not in his prime. Like heavy metal to rock and roll, I would say Maynard is to Jazz. He is the hard stuff!
