They're used to traveling hundreds of miles each year as they migrate up and down the state of Florida. Imagine being put in a fish tank, or being born in one, and not being able to follow your instinct. I'd slam against the glass too.
Running into the glass all day is funny? It's an intelligent, social animal. I doubt it was playing games. I'd say it's more likely that the poor thing was losing it's mind, and thought he/she might actually get the chance to interact with someone for a change.

Look at Lolita, at the Miami Seauarium. She's been there over 40 years, and still responds to the calls of her family in the wild when played back. She floats around lifelessly, bored to death. Manatees are terrible creatures of nature. All they do is float around and get run over by boats. My uncles down $20,000 because a manatee got in the way of his boat. These things aren't "poor creatures," their floating deathtraps for boats.

Many manatees in tanks at zoos and aquariums are there for rehab and will be returned to the wild. Without these rehab facilities the manatees would most like be extinct. Please understand the good that is performed by zoos and aquariums.

It has been statistically proven that hey are safer in captivity..they have higher life spans and they even have higher birth rates (as well as the mortality rate of babies are down because of the medical support) Still...it's sad that they even HAVE to be in captivity.. they should be free to swim and be free to be adorable without having to run into glass...lol

Manatees don't think like us humans, they probably don't even know why there in captivity. And no, humans aren't predators, a minority maybe but most aren't.

I also didn't know about most manatees only being in captivity because they were injured but if that's true, then i suppose you may have a point there.
@MrDBD1991 it is true... a lot of manatees are in captivity because at some point they were hurt.. and the other is because they were born into captivity with their injured mother, she's lived with her mother (who is in captivity) until she's old enough to leave her..but sadly, she hasn't learned the way to live in the wild, so the cycle continues.... Manatees DON'T think like us..and because of that, I don't think they realize their world is a tank and could be bigger....
@RXdash78 He's called buffet and I think they rescued him from a boating accident. He's at the Mote Aquarium in Florida and they aren't quite sure why he likes bashing his nose against the glass.. but it doesn't hurt him :)

Many manatees in tanks at zoos and aquariums are there for rehab and will be returned to the wild. Without these rehab facilities the manatees would most like be extinct. Please understand the good that is performed by zoos and aquariums.

manatees are a lot safer in captivity actually. the water traffic in florida is their biggest threat to survival.

It has been statistically proven that hey are safer in captivity..they have higher life spans and they even have higher birth rates (as well as the mortality rate of babies are down because of the medical support) Still...it's sad that they even HAVE to be in captivity.. they should be free to swim and be free to be adorable without having to run into glass...lol

If you've been trapped in a tank all your life how are you suppose to
know that if you was on the outside you'd be dead by now.
I highly doubt the manatees are in there tank right now thinking "well at least
where safer"
In my opinion, i would rather die than live in a tank for the rest of my life,
after all, what is there to live for.

@MrDBD1991 I agree... As I said, it is sad that they have to be in captivity... But sadly, that's the way it happens.... and to be frank with you.. I'D rather live in a somewhat large tank, where I was fed and didn't have to worry about boats coming by and slicing up my back, sides, and tail... and I'm sure I'm not the only one that would rather be safe than dead...

just like I'm pretty sure you'd choose to buy food
from a shop from a shop instead of catching it. (which a predator wouldn't )
Manatee's would prefer living on the outside because they don't know of the danger that awaits them and they never will, they'll spend the rest of there lives thinking "if only i was on the outside"

I'd rather go deer hunting than buy deer meat in the store. I'm pretty sure manatee's don't think "if only I was on the outside" especially considering MOST manatees are in captivity because they were seriously hurt by boaters or by other means...The only ones not hurt are usually born into captivity and could not live outside...

Manatees don't think like us humans, they probably don't even know why there in captivity. And no, humans aren't predators, a minority maybe but most aren't.
And sure you'd rather go deer hunting with that rifle in your hands, try it with out.
I also didn't know about most manatees only being in captivity because they were injured but if that's true, then i suppose you may have a point there.

@MrDBD1991 it is true... a lot of manatees are in captivity because at some point they were hurt.. and the other is because they were born into captivity with their injured mother, she's lived with her mother (who is in captivity) until she's old enough to leave her..but sadly, she hasn't learned the way to live in the wild, so the cycle continues.... Manatees DON'T think like us..and because of that, I don't think they realize their world is a tank and could be bigger....

@RXdash78 He's called buffet and I think they rescued him from a boating accident. He's at the Mote Aquarium in Florida and they aren't quite sure why he likes bashing his nose against the glass.. but it doesn't hurt him :)
