Best Buy is the worst buy! prices are high, techs are worthless and liars. Best Buy also has poor warranty services, they will always give an excuse, even if they are the ones that damaged the product.
liquid tape sucks, get a good strip, twist the wires bend and stretch super 33 tape around it. please hook up ur ground wires first people ive seen many ecu have power back feed in them during install and take a shit
best buy sucks, when something goes wrong they dont know where to start. my friend with a lexus is 300 had a issue with a factory amp in his car and they could not even tell him this or how to fix it in any way , i worked there i know, i did not learn from this crap place or circuit city.....the old school methods are the best.....anyways prep ur alarm before u put it in there cut the wires short ur not using which will be alot and the locks, parking lights, ignitions, tach and hood pin leave long
I installed a remote start setup in my manual jeep a few years back. But I also installed a couple of micro switches on the shifter plate so it would know if it was in gear. Your setup is a disaster waiting to happen. Think little kids and babys in strollers and what it would feel like after you killed a few of them because you hit the button while scratching your balls...
I wanted to ask you, have you had any range problems with that viper 2way remote......there was like a defect in these alarms I herd and ..and how long is the connector that connects to the remote start relays? because always do stealth installs and never put the alarm under the dash......I want this alarm, but just dont want to buy something with problems.
1) With a Small Pick you can depin the wires on the harness that you will not use, that prevents the wires from shorting out!
2) Use all black wire, split loom everything and also use UL Listed Electrical tape & Solder.
3) Put your antenna on the opposite side of where your alarm is installed.
4) Always put your brain somewhere else then right under the dash, if a thief just cuts the ground its over! This is Not ment to be a negative comment. Take Care!
Thanks for all the info man. Its seems the most difficult part would be determining what wire does what. Which most the videos do not explain, you should shoot a video on that.
The only thing i would have done is soldered my connections and heat shrunk them, you've got juevos for installing that on a manual transmission, but the fact that it works man is awesome, good for you.
bro, you know if you go to best buy and purchase a alarm they install for free. I am a Auto Tech for bestbuy ,a couple of things that i would do is 1. Dont use T- taps, they are easier to use but we have seen cars come in burnt out and fire damage. 2. before you put the alarm in wrap the cables in electrical tape if someone know what they are doing they can disable the alarm if they can see the wires.over all man alarms can be very difficult and congratz on your first one being functional.
Thanks, but retail price suck most pple do buy from best buy, i try not to if i dont have to.. plus i asked one time if a remote started could be installed by best buy techs, they said NO cause its a manual. liability issue
@22reTOYOTA For sure, just looking at a birds nest like that would get my confused and pissed off easily. And there is very little room for error, especially when you're messing with the remote start. I just couldn't be the amateur that I am and jump right in and do it. I'll stick to basic/ semi advanced audio install capabilities.
You did a great job on explaining on how you hooked up your car alarm, I now understand how my alarm system is hooked up, I had someone install my alarm but now have a better understanding on how its all hooked up.
yes you can put the brain anywhere as long as the cables reach. the idea is to make the brain hard to find so it wont be unpluged when some1 breaks in.
man, I am installing mine, and my biggest problem is getting through the firewall, there is a gourmet already in the car to go through, but on the inside of the car there is so much stuff infront of it, like fusebox, dash, and modules and crap
One way you can do it is to feed a wire coat hanger into it and than tape the wire to it and pull the hanger back out. hopefully there isn't too many bends because than it might not work. Hope this helps!
yea, already did it, everything works amazing, inlcuding my proximity sensor, it works wonders, I want to see someone get in my car, not really, but you know what I mean, ha ha
one tip cut the wires that are to long that will reduce the clutter wires. second tip also cut off the ones that you are not using that will help alot. I bet you to longer trying to button up all the wires and hiding the brain than the actual install itself.
i have liquid tape. the reason i wanted to use wire taps and t-taps. just so i can replace the alarm when the remote breaks or gets lost. some remotes are more expensive than alarm them selfs.
props for doing it yourself

1)a t-tap only rated for 20-25 amps Viper can draw up to 75 amps (two 30 for starter one 15 on the alarm side
2) viper make a module for these units so they can be put in a standard
3)hope it comes with a fire extinguisher
4) what do you feed the Rats in the nest

@snickerfritz420 I'd rather buy a remote start system online for 1/3 or 1/4 of the cost best buy sells it for and spend a saturday installing it...

i wasnt happy with how long the wires were so thats what i did i cut the wires about 80% their length.
PaCPoD69 2 years ago
I am leaving mine full length and I am just gonna tie all the wires up, that way if I need to take it out or do anything like that I can
dereileak 2 years ago
What a mess you've created. lol Good job though. Next time use liquid tape and armors. Moisture is something you should take noticed.
