  • A 1 minute and thirty seconds introduction. Seems necessary.

  • It's an all commons format you play both 0 rares and 0 uncommons. Hymn To Tourach was made an uncommon online pretty much to keep it away from peasant magic. There are commons though online that will cost up to $5. Its cheaper but not all cards will be found for a few pennies I think any of the popularly played commons will be $1-2

  • do you know when these updates came or are coming into affect cause was kind of interested in playing magic online

  • Watch this episodes online at oneclickshowz. net

  • Do you think the new magic online interface will work on most low end pc's?

  • Any idea if this is every going to come out? I would probably play if the current MTGO wasn't so ugly.

  • @xVSxNightamre same here.

  • This does indeed sound like a commercial.

99.9% of the a-list video games on the PC do not run in a browser. Coincidence? I think not.

That WoTC/Hasbro is already pimping a Silverlight client also worries me, as they're probably going to end up shipping a prototype instead of investing in a proper development cycle.

The quality of the imagery (which is really all you've shown), it is still only on-par with the decade(s) old Microprose game and leagues behind the current x-box live version.

  • What's the URL for this?

  • Lol 00:38

  • I would play this if it wasn't sooooo expensive.

  • @catzblu999

    Hello,

you can try out peasant magic. The format is real fun and decks to play itconsist of atleast 55 commons and 5 uncommons max. The overpowerd cards are banned and you can make a killer deck for $7 ish.

    Have fun!

  • It is only 10$ at start for 160 cards or so right?

  • how did u try the demo?

    please reply!

  • Browser MTGO will send me out to buy a laptop IMMEDIATELY, if I don't go get one by then.

    Drafting @ work 4tw!

  • You sound like an infomercial man when talking about MTGO!

  • Playing mtgo since many years. According to my experience: don't listen to anything coming up in the future, because once it is finally here, wotc will have screwed it up.

  • So... this is basically like Magic Workstation except crashing less. Crashing less vs. paying money hm...

    :\

  • i think Magic online is really intrested in lmited

  • I'm all for an attept at improvement, but... in my experience browser-run games just tend to be worse than Client driven. The example that comes to mind is Runescape vs any Client driven MMO (World of Warcraft, Ultima, etc.)

  • hurray for the mtgo changes, incredibly excited for that one

  • I had to change my pants three times during the Online demo, it was just that orgasmic.

Five Year Plans? My god, Wizards is becoming the Soviet Union.

  • Nice to see the improvement on MTGO. I hope it goes well!

  • it would be nice if MTGO worked on android or iPhone no need to drag along an computer to play magic

  • About time they improve on UI. It seems like everytime they "develop" their websites and MTGO, the user interface just gets much worse.

  • I really hope its possible to maximize the new mtgo "game/interface" so that the rest of the space the web browser takes up can be used for Magic.

  • Old Wilco?! Evan, your taste in music is....well, its just great. So many reasons for a casual player like myself to come back and watch every week.

  • lol 5 and 6 year plan sounds like what the nazi's did with there year plans lol, just thought it sounded a little fishy

  • It wasn't Germany who had the five-year plans, it was the Soviet Union. Silly Americans, always mixing up the communists and the fascists.

  • He might have been talking about the four year plan that Hermann Göring was put in charge of back in 1936 to fix the German economy and build the milityery...but yeah, probably not. =p

  • Yea, because that's a fair generalization

  • It wasn't Germany who was facist, it was Italy. Silly Americans, always mixing up the fascists and the nazis.

  • /facepalm

Nazism is just a form of fascism.

  • I love this show, getting around to buying some play mats soon...

  • ive only played magic online at New York Comic Con and there were some serious connection issues in the convention center.... I tried to put that aside so and just enjoy the game but.... it was terrible, it was not intuitive and not fun. It felt like it was a cd based game from 1994

  • New modo is incredible. There had been a few things holding me back from finally getting myself into Magic Online: shitty card representation, borken client, and WoTC's consistent focus on all the wrong things.

As far as digital magic, you could either have a very limited experience (DotP,MTGT, etc) that looked amazing OR you could have the full MTG:O which looked like crap. To hear about the extensive research & development that is being put toward this project is an unexpected surprise.

  • so does that mean i'll be able to uninstall my client and still play with the url and have all my cards?

  • Based on all I've seen, yes. This is, of course, a ways off (mid-late 2010 at best)

  • Allowing MTGO to be played in a browser window is huge! Such a great marketing move on WotC's part.

  • wow, this actually is making me think of finally getting into mtgo...

  • ya, me too))

  • MaRo has a lisp

  • YAY! FUCK YEAH! THATS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT!

BEST thing Ive heard from WotC for YEARS!

Ive been hoping that they would impove the client, but WEB BROWSER!? I would NEVER have guessed!

God! Im so hyped now! Haha! :D

  • whoa...ive never seen rosewater THIS happy....thats kinda scary....but pretty awesome...some awesome sauce makes me a happy panda :D

  • Indeed. I can tell when he's just talking to hype us and when it's genuine. This time, he's exited.

  • I want new magic :)

  • I might actually start playing MTGO if the interface turns out well...

  • FINALLY! Magic on the Mac!!!!

  • where are the mountains to cast the 3 Minotaurs???

  • your missing the point

  • it got destroyed by a stone rain.. then the opponents mountains for that stone rain were destroyed by 2 creeping molds..

  • Even if I had no desire to play Modo (MWS is just fine if you only want to play with your friends), the new version looks interesting and they did a good job on the GUI.

  • Great show, Evan, I loved it.

  • Im gonna be broke... I have been able to keep away from mtgo thanks to the fact that i can't run it on Linux.

ahh well, finally wotc understands that there are more then Windows. WOHO!

Thanks for a great show anyway. =)

  • Man, he always says how excited he is, I'm not sure if he's really excited because it's good or it's just his personality.

    (Rosewater, that is)

  • I have VMware fusion on my imac just for MTGO, so this will be an awesome change, no more having to load a vm of win7!

  • hehe same thing for me, just with parallels desktop and mws;):P for some reason, I never really wanted to play MTGO, ... but I'm glad to hear that other people have the same problem as me:P

  • Markrose Waters, although not funny, makes me really excited for stuff that I probably only be slightly excited with it once it comes out.

  • To MARK: yes it worked. ZENDIKAR is awesome man. You did a great job. I am happy you fought for it, and it worked out so great. From the dawn of time (when the first black lotus was printed) I would always collect and play the weird lands. I love lands that can do things. Having cards that interact with land was naturally the next step. It's powerful, but has the right balance so it isn't over board and hard to deal with.

  • hopefully the web client will not have ads plastered all over it

  • If it's on Silverlight, I can only hope Moonlight lets it run on Linux. Even so, as it is right now MODO on a virtual machine isn't exactly optimal for me, and even a browser within said virtual machine would likely be better... definitely excited for this. :D

Cool thing is that there doesn't really have to be all this UI and client programming for the shop/trading/friend/deckbuilding areas! It can be more like a forum/social network type website, and the heavy rendering used mainly for games.

  • I'm a little skeptical about a web based client. While the stuff shown in this video is very shiny and impressive, there are things that just aren't suited to running in a browser. For example, what happens when you press back while in the middle of a draft?

  • If it opens a new draft in a new window or tab, then that problem can probably be averted. However, if the window/tab/plugin/browser crashes? I mean, if they've got your IP/username and everything, I don't see how hard it is to autoresume a draft in progress.

Similar to how I can close a game of, say, Risk (Attack!) on Facebook and then load up the same server and I still have my seat, and I can still take my turns. Or if your MODO client crashes and it's able to bring you back to your game.

  • @LiamOFla

Open the client in a new tab/window. Problem solved. They can even do that for you on the site that launches it (if they consider your concern).

  • It's not too hard to have "states" and things persisting. It's not going to be entirely web based, I expect a back-end to keep track of stuff beneath all the fancy ui improvements.

That said, I'm pretty excited about the vector rendering and no software updates. I hope they can pull it all together cause it looks pretty amazing.

  • he mentioned the the old shandalar game in there , did you know that this game is still getting modded ?

  • Wait, how'd he cast three Canyon Minotaurs with eight Forests?...apparently as an added feature, basic lands can tap for any color!

  • It's a tech demo, just to show you examples. It's not actually 100% working.

  • I do hope that it really is better. More importantly, that it doesn't hog resources, crash for no reason, randomly not load my collection, randomly not load my built decks, lag for no reason... become unresponsive for no reason... wait, why am I playing MODO, again?

  • I'm so glad they're finally bringing leagues back! Oh wait... I mean, uhm... hiring outside people to make the lack of leagues look pretty.

  • When is the new online coming!!

  • "I'm really proud of X, but Y is going to be even better!"

I'm pretty sure Rosewater has said that about every new set that's come out.

  • MWS anyone?

  • MWS, your place for golden comedy!

  • That... looks worse than it is now.^^

  • This is bull crap. I watch every show, and i am STILL tapping my own cards....... haha...ha...see what i did there?

  • i see wat u did thar

  • damn you ROSEWATER! DAMN YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it would be so sweet if "lights" revisits mirrodin-esque planes!

  • ROSEWATER.

    STOP.

    TEASING.

    ME.

  • Okay, I'm officially going to quit the cardboard game for the online version.

  • EPICEST SHIT EVER

  • New client looks awesome!! simple, clean. Finally a client to be excited about. When does it come out?

  • TNLG is amazing, but aren't the events being held at the Nashville Convention Center the 7th and 8th?

  • Is Magic Online 100% free?

  • We all wish

  • you still need like 10$ to start but they give you a starting package... you cant really play much with it though

  • 15 bucks for activation.

You have to trade for your cards or buy packs.

  • anyone know its release date? (for the online version)

  • once the upate is released, can you teach us how to use it?

  • I'm really looking forward to those sets and the new Magic Online.

  • wow, I've allways been put off magic online because of its ugly UI, these new changes may change all that....

  • Wicked vid as always, keep it up.

  • Yeah, guys. Seriously. Next Level Games is amazing. Go.

  • they better not screw it up with v3

  • yayy~

  • Nice job Man ! Love your videos

  • Super early! Sweet!
