  • Amazzzzzzing Rachael!

  • That ending spin was great!!

  • Mariellalunagoddes I agree a lot. Why does she ALWAYS do donut spins? She needs to increase flexibility and grace. I don't understand WHY the commentators like her anyway.

  • 2:11....hideous

  • I dont think her skating has as much flow and elegance as the other competetors, and her spins are not that great compared to someone like Alissa Czisny!

  • She's "got" everything, technically. But watching her vs watching Yuna Kim or Mirai Nagasu or Mao Asada....it ain't the same level.

  • her crossovers are really bugging me in this...idk why. her jumps are high but they look slow...

  • She's Cute ,with a nice figure ,and she's a very good skater, and got cheated out of maybe a gold at the least a silver at the oriental olympics at vancover which it was ,the judges fixed it,If I was her age i would love to go out with her ,be her boyfriend.

  • because she lacks grace, flexibility, ugly positions. all she has is jumps. not a complete skater by no mean. she shouldn't have gottan a medal. she underrotated her jumps and got deducted. the oriental olympics the right people won

  • Shes ok skater, but not very gorgeous.

  • yea she looks like an elephant with the trunk missing

  • Haha, correct!

  • I'd say this figure skater is very aptly named...Her performance was quite Flatt

  • i wanna jizz on her face

  • fuck dude you have bad taste whats wrong with you?

  • hmm. after reading all of these negative posts in other figure skaters forum, won't you be seeing some in here?

  • first of all, the fact that i want to jizz on her face doesn't necessarily mean i want to bang her....but i want to bang her anyway! she's hot!

  • i wanna jizz on her face

  • Go Racheal!!! Ur so talented!!! U deserve 2b on the olympics!!!

  • i think shes really good but her routines feels so alike her order of jumps and movements she doesnt really bring anything new

  • A perfect performance, just doesn't inspire me though :(

  • Am I the only one that thinks Sasha looks like shes about to die everytime she goes on the ice? She needs to eat something and I like this Rachael she has potitial

  • @kimmijrockdork Sasha looked extremely thin at US Nationals. Hopefully it was just the result of intense training for Nationals.

  • świetny występ!!! :):):)

  • This was the longest 5 minute 25 seconds of my life, that I will never get back..zzzZzzZZZzzz

    Go Sasha!

  • represent Cheyenne Mountain!

  • she reminds me so much Sarah Hughes!

  • You're just rude.

  • @SixSenseSioux ppl who say that are most likely to be ugly...or you're jealous perhaps?

  • i luv rachael dont get me wrong but, i think she needs to work on her flexibility more because all her competeters r much flexibler plus i think she should maybe wrok out and get strongger so her jumps improve

  • I really don't think you should be judging her. "Flexibler"? That's not a word, smart one. She's going to the Olympics... are you? Didn't think so.

  • @icingandcrystals, hello its just a suggestion and im only 11 so ya! please dont be mean! and i happen to be training to the 2014 olyimpics for figure skatign so u can be quiet about that too! and in the furture dont be so picky! it is very rude!

  • @SixSenseSioux IM still watching you mr. sick stalker of teen girls.

  • lol

  • she is so good! I love how she ice skates!!!

  • She's not fat! She looks perfectly healthy and FIT!

  • She can't even lift her leg up, and where's her Spiral? I guess I'm just spoiled by the excellence of Sasha.

  • Too bad sasha can't take the pressure and screws up every big chance she gets.

  • yup toooooooooo bad. I can't wait to see Rachael fall

  • @sanduhra Hey, she's still a good skater, don't criticize someone b/c they crack under pressure. :)

    God Bless ~Amy

  • good? You must mean phenomenal. Because she is technically the best skater out there right now. But all I'm saying is that history is going to remember the first woman who lands a quad in competition, not the one who does sometimes warm ups. Not hating, just stating a fact. Go Sasha! and i agree with this whole thread. Rachel is so boring!! Who even chooses her music? It just makes it worse :(

  • @sanduhra lol I agree, Rachel is very boring, I love Sasha, it just seemed like you were knocking her b/c you said she screws up all the time, which is very true. I just try to be reasonable, that's all, but I agree Sasha is amazing, she's one of the few female skaters I really enjoy, I watched this video to see what Rachel was all about and I was like "What's the big deal? She's mechanical and soulless." Rachel fans don't take that personally. :)

    God Bless ~Amy

  • @thewordthatpierces "soulless" a little harsh, don't you think? And ironically you say God Bless afterward. Maybe you should try to stop saying that people don't have souls.

  • actually, miki ando already landed a quad salchow. it was definitely underrotated but it still counted

  • Hey, I'm a HUGE Sasha fan. If anyone is spoiled by Sasha's greatness, it's me. I had a fight with an Arakawa fan just last month. I know Rachel is not Sasha's caliber. No way.I can't look at Rachel's full program without getting bored. I'm just appalled by the fact people call her fat. People can't deny that figure skaters work extra hard to keep themselves at top condition. She can't be as slim as other figure skaters, so what? Beauty is not just the faces and bodies you see in a magazine.

  • I cant believe people call this chick fat! sheesh!, maybe compared to the other figure skaters she's the size of a normal human!!

  • @Katiethecloud Rachael is NOT fat! She has a beautiful, womanly figure. She just needs to be careful about her costuming due to her bone structure.

  • Did I say she was fat? No. But other idiots do. If anything i'm calling the other skaters anorexic!

  • You misunderstand me-I did not say that YOU said she was fat. I was agreeing with you! Sorry-I forgot to write 'ITA' to clarify!

  • *normal American human.

  • She is very young, maybe not sophiscated enough, but full of energy and posibilities!

  • this is boring to watch. there's no artistry, grace, and elegance.

  • i love rachel flatt but i dont think this program fits her

  • @skaterlover2016 I wish they'd use her exhibition number instead in the same black costume. Rachael needs an upbeat techno number not this slo mo snoozefest that is better suited to the Philharmonic. I think her spunky exhibition number suited her better, the cut of the black costume was far more flattering to her figure, etc.

  • @skaterlover2016 I agree-like I said in another post-techno techno techno! She needs upbeat music to keep powering through those jumps!

  • A very good performance technically but artistically she needs improvement. I like to watch her skate but it seemed almost too competitive, like she was wasn't really enjoying herself on the ice.

  • How...could she have won...with all the grace available??? A horse face dolt !!!

  • i really like the sureness of all, if not most, of her landings, even if she had to fight for it. the opposite spin was quite impressive. but i think she needs to work on the other spins..

  • All over the place.

  • @DonnieBrownIII If this wins the Olympics by some horrible implosions from the better, more artistic skaters or some freak of nature I will give up on figure skating.

  • I agree! Unfortunately that's the nature of the sport. If God would have given Sasha Cohen Rachel's consistency and jumping ability...We would have a phenom like Kim Yu Na representing the United States. Rachel has the jumps but the artistry is non-existant much like Kimmie Meissner and Tonya Harding.

  • @DonnieBrownIII True that!

  • i think she's a little bit flabby..i mean, she isnt really fat.. but for skater, that makes her look a bit clumsy..no doubt that her flexibility make things worse..

  • @lagogo18 Yes-she is hampered by a severe lack of flexibility like alot of the other girls. These days skaters, like gymnasts need to show off flexibility in some of their elements.

  • everything was so right but sooo boring! she should work on artistic side and more flexibility. her torso is so stiff like a square box.

  • sigh...agreed! she would be perfect if she had the grace of sasha cohen...but then again, no one can match her artistic ability.

  • @shortnsweetie It would help if she straightened her back. Her posture is atrocious. Sarah Hughes hunched her back too but not quite so severely.

  • Eh... her spins are slow... she needs to work on her grace, posture, and flexibility... she's a good jumper but otherwise, artistry is missing....

  • cute!!

  • pleasant to see her performance!

  • boring but great potential.

  • Her style reminds me a little of Tonya Harding.

  • Another beautiful, and perfect performance by Rachael Flatt. Well done Rachael!

  • is it just me or does she look like she is slouching?

  • It's not just you. She has bad posture.

  • The U.S.A. and Japan should have five tickets for the coming Olympic . Why do they have to chose only two or three at most "when" they have many good skaters. I would love to watch all the good skaters compete for the medals no matter what their nationality is. No need to distribute tickets among as many countries as possible. Sport is not charity. This is just what I think.

  • I agree with this on a personal level. There is so much subpar skating going from the first 2 groups or so of Worlds (or 4CC) that it feel silly that the #4 or 5th skater of a powerhouse nation has to sit out while we have to watch them instead.

That said, the ISU has a lot of member countries that are only capable of sending one (or two) skaters every year, and then we have the issue of being "PC" and practicing the Olympic spirit...

  • aha....because they did so well on an international level the past two years...I mean the us-skaters..

  • Ohh.. well your very informitive. lol. Ya and i can't wait for the olympics.. it shall be interesting. :)

  • Man.. i hope she gets her triple axel soon.

  • Is she working on a triple axel?

  • I mean i would hope so. since she can land all her other triples.. i just want to she her compete at mao asadas level. :)

  • Well, to really challenge Mao and Yu-Na any skater will need more than a triple axel. Look at the speed they skate with, the quality of the footwork, the overall presentation, the multiple positions they get while spinning and the feeling of the music. The best example is Joannie Rochette's progress to reach the podium. Yu-Na proved a skater can actually beat Mao without a triple axel.

  • I thought that was bcuz Mao fell.

  • Well, Yu-Na's total at this years' world was a record. Doing a triple axel under COP does not guarentee neither a place on the podium nor a great score. Next year's Olympics should be really exciting! I see only two contenders for the gold next year... If Kostner remains clean, she could give a surprise.

  • i know that rachael is a good skaterr and all but there is sumthing about her that just doesnt look good i mean like she doesnt look eleagant er gracefull, and im not being a hater, but its truee

  • she's good..bt i feel like something's juz missing..

figure skating is so different now without kwan n cohen...

bt after all she's only 16...

  • She is amazing! The reporter is right about her smile!

  • i don't know how she got 2nd place. Her jumps are good but everything else is not there.

  • She was OK the first minute or so, and everything was clean, but there wasn't much between the jumps, spins, and the spirals. The spirals were just strolling along, and I would've liked for her catch foot spin's spinning leg to have been a bit straighter. Her jumps were high and rotated well, just so... boring.

  • they should have sent Mirai to Worlds instead of Rachael.I love them both but Mirai has energy and speed.

And Rachael is kinda slow and that makes her look boring

  • dood mirai is like a freakin fire cracker on ice or w/e shes just like: AMAIZING.

  • yeah they really should have because Mirai has more quality in her skating and skates with a lot more speed.

It's a shame that Mirai has an ankle injury and wasn't old enough at the time of the worlds.

  • I do wish they had sent Mirai to Worlds instead.

Oh well, it's probably better to let her rest that ankle so she'll be in the best shape possible for next season.

There's nothing wrong with Rachel, just nothing exceptional. She has beautiful jumps, but that's about it.

  • I almost fell asleep.. she is a lovely girl, and her jumping ability is obviously good, but everything else is just not there..

  • very good technically. artistically boring. but- apparently artistry is secondary. so as long as we having jumping phenoms, nothing else matters. *insert sarcasm*

  • taken apart from the context of competition, this was a very enjoyable skate. nothing groundbreaking here, but there's a very elegant, feminine charm about this performance!

  • (yawn)

  • She looks so slow when she skates which makes it sooo boring

  • She's not slow at all. Look at the ad's on the boards going by.

  • try doing a load of backward crossovers and see how fast you get.....crossovers make you gain speed so you can go quickly into tricks.

  • She looks so slow when she skates which makes it sooo boring

  • You can't judge the speed when you watch a video or TV. In person it looks much different. Kwan had great speed, but if you watch her 2004 Nationall's Tosca program it looks slow and boring.

The new marking system wasn't in place, and the focus was on quality, not quantity.

  • I've seen her skate in person-compared to the Japanese skaters, the Russians, Yuna Kim, Carolina-she's slow. Mirai skates faster too.

  • sure rachael's great n very consistent n steady, or she wouldn't be competing in this competition in the first place, but i think mirai n caroline are higher up on the likeability factor scale.

  • Caroline and Mirai are great skaters, too. But it's a shame all 3 couldn't be at Worlds. I don't expect to see the USFSA sending Alissa anywhere after this dismal Worlds performance from here... and I haven't even seen it yet. But 2.0 deductions? well same old, same old. Pretty face, pretty skater, but the other 3 will get the job done.

    What were those judges thinking?

  • That's rude. Did you see Mirai's performance here? Apparently her running into the boards and under rotating triples is a better option for Worlds?? PLEASE! People like you irk me to no end.

  • What's rude? Saying that Alyssa is done? Well she does t to herself. She will be a good show skater. she doesn't have the consistency. Look where we are now! 2 Olympic skaters. Thanks. what a shame.

BTW, I like Rachel Flattt. She's consistent and constantly improving. Time will be running out for Mirai and Caroline if they don't each come up with a big win soon.

  • We have two Olympic skaters because of the way the skaters did in the 2008 world championships... Alissa and Rachael were trying to get the three spots back!!! I hardly blame it on Alissa. I blame Wagner, Liang, and Meissner because they are the ones who lost the spots in the first place. Oh, and thank you for avoiding my questions about Mirai.

  • Rachel will grow on y ou... once you get used to her winning.

  • See what I mean.

    Where's Alyssa now?

    and Rachel?

right where I said they'd be.

    And Mirai, too.

  • Definatly one to watch for the olympics! shes really good! one of my favorite skaters hands down!

  • She's very consistant, but she reminds me of a bit worse copy of Kimmie, technically she's great, but she's not as enjoyable to watch as Czisny. I am glad she didn't win, I felt as though figure skating was becoming so technical and cold and left artistry behind, but with Alissa winning (she's a pleasure to watch) I have hopes things can go back to Michelle Kwan's there, when performances were soooo artistic!

  • I love the music. Her costume is gorgeous. :-)

  • Her jumps are excellent, and consistent. However she needs to work on her spins - they're so slow and on her flexibility and artistry. Also this program is very dull

  • Her technique is much better than Caroline's, but I would much rather watch Caroline over her any day.

The commentator is absolutely right: Rachael is "automatic". That's why there's no joy in watching her skate because it feels like watching an instructional video.

When you're up against people like Mao Asada and Yuna Kim, it's better to be artistically perfect than technically.

  • I, for one, don't think this program is boring... I think the real problem with the Debussy LP is that the musical complexity of these pieces is beyond a lot of people's grasp! I don't mean this in an offensive way... After all, I like Rachael as a skater and I think she can appreciate classical music really well. So, good luck at Worlds, Rachael!!!

  • The reason Rachel isn't getting as much recognition is because she is a small skater. Her jumps are nice and everything, but they aren't terribly high, and aren't very long. Her presence is much smaller than Alyssa.

Next season, if Rachel can let go and skate bigger, I think she'll be fantastic.

  • oh yes, well said!

  • This was great.

  • Rachael is a very boring skater this season. Her programs last year were much better. Even with this virtually flawless program, Alissa won here. But the real story was at 4CC. Everyone can see just how much better things would be if Caroline was named to the world team instead of Alissa. Caroline finished 4th, right off the podium. Rachael ended up 7th and Alissa 9th. That's what it'll look like at worlds only bump them two down about 3 more spots; can't forget about Kostner, Ando and Lepisto.

  • Yeah, it was a bit shocking how quiet the crowd was after that performance...

  • And Kostner finished... 12th. Right.

  • Some of these comments are very negative - Rachael is a beautiful girl and this performance was amazing! Great job, Rachael!

  • She did well, but I think Czisny and Zhang should have gone 1, 2....Rachel needs to work on becoming more graceful not just the jumps

  • Nope. The 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 should have been Zhang, Flatt, Wagner, Nagasu, Czisny. Rachael is good but her programs are too damn boring this season. She needs better music. Zhang, while slow, is very consistent plus her programs are more appealing. Czisny should have been 5th b/c everyone in the top 5 did more triples than her 2 1/2. The judges inflated her scores and put her into first to the detriment of the US world team. Their placements at 4CC tells you everything. CZ-4th, RF-7th and AC-9th.

  • Yeah, the judges at the US Nationals weren't doing the country a favour at all with the scoring here.

The U.S. isn't going to do well at the Worlds.

  • You can't blame the judges for the fact that the US isn't doing good at the Worlds again. The US women are down right now and they don't have a dominate skater. Simple as that. If someone comes along that is good enough to compete against Mao and Kim then the judges won't matter at all.

  • no way, zhang needs to work on her underrotations, and nagasu is injured. it should've been flatt and wagner on the world team, i dont think that the us can get 3 spot for the olympics with czisny.

  • even with underrotations, Zhang scores higher than both Flatt and Wagner on the world stage and that's what counts. even with UR calls she still scored over 60 points in the TES mark at 4CC and came in 4th against the best skaters in the world. face it, Zhang is the best the US has and she's not going to worlds. Flatt will end up 8th or 9th and Czisny will end up 12th or 13th...2 spots for 1010. that's all.

  • sad but true. we've really got to step it up for next year. (kimmie & emily too)

  • to be honest, i don't know if kimmie or emily have a shot against the new talent. kimmie, bless her heart, was never a skater that really drew my eye and emily's skating kinda annoys me. if either of them want to outshine the new crop of skaters, they have some major adjustments to make.

  • UGH. Really, Czisny in 5th? Her short program was leaps and bounds above the others. But apparently you missed that. You have to remember that even if Alissa isn't consistent, judges don't look at how well she has done in the past 3 years. They look at THIS particular competition. First in the short, third in the long... I think is very fair for this competition. It was 3 triples by the way.

  • I agree...she just looks like she's throwing herself around there a bit

  • Agreed. There is no direction to her skating.

  • does anyone have the sp, I wil like to see

    tnks

  • I think she don't need to lose some weight!!! She's great!

She's a real women, and not a doll like some other . She's special!

  • She's clearly an athelete and not an artist.

  • she does fly under the radar and technically brillant and wins when the other competitors falter..

  • Some of the worst excuses for 'choreography' that Lori Nichol has ever produced. This is pure dreck and dull as dishwater. Flatt is actually capable of being graceful; put her in ballet class every morning, give her CHOREOGRAPHY, fix her spins, and get her skating slightly faster, and you will have something stunning.

  • I don't know why there is sooooo much opposition against her song and her choreography. I feel like the reason behind is in her personal skating, not the music. But that's just me.

  • i do think rachael had a chance but liewise she needs tuffer spins and spirals, most of all seed, she may have had the jumps but overall the program seemed boring at times compared to her sp in 2007

  • does she need to lose some weight? what do you think?

  • I think she don´t need need lose weight but if she can lose a few pounds she can looks so much better

  • I agree with you on all those points - I think that's probably why she "flies under the radar".

  • What do you mean?

  • She's a lovely young girl. I hope she skates perfectly at Worlds and kicks butt.

  • Rachael and Ashley are the storngest among US ladies for a moment

  • She is so pretty in blue, technically consistent. Wonder why she didn't win

  • awesome jumps, but the music is boring and the choreography unexciting.

But she's young and will improve, I wish her the best!

Scott is so getting on my nerves with his stupid giggling commentary. To once have been a good skater doesn't mean to be a good commentator!
