Actually Snape's mistake was to spy the Potters for Voldemort. So, when he realized that Lily was in danger, he ran to Dumbledore and asked for help to save Lily. When Lily died, Snape felt that was his obligation to keep Harry safe, even though Harry was the seed of James and Lily's love.

It would have been more satisfying to see him lying there after he killed so many of our beloved characters.

With physical remains, the tone would be morbid rather than reflective. A scene in a book does not always translate well on screen. Remember when Voldemort gloats over Harry's body to the Hogwarts crowd? Displaying his body on screen is gloating to the movie audience. There is not supposed to be satisfaction over his death because Voldemort is in the end an inconsequential being. The disintegration of his body is symbolic of the disintegration of his soul and legacy.
