  • Micro Trenching is interesting.

  • Wtf. Really. Hmmmm.

  • Does any one know what micro trencher the Bobcat is using?

  • I used a ditch witch to dig a trench for a gas line.. all the way down the road.. through about 2 feet of compact earth and a foot of sandstone. That thing was an absolute BEAST.

  • this is the effect of the depression. all the businesses are getting physical. google's digging ditches and warren buffet bought a train company. this is what's needed for a new age of prosperity. no more creating wealth by hand waving.

  • now this is real engineering...

  • right Bearing Sea Eccotech was on the right and finished first, but left allot of leftover dirt that worked against them. DW was on the left and left hardly any dirt and they were not that far behind Eccotech anyway.

My experiences with a ditch witch trench digger were a little bit different, more dirt (spoilage) left over but I was glad to have it to fill the trench back in.

One thing is when you see how easy it is makes the telco excuses about FTTH seem lame...

  • HP + Google = <3

    Apple + Dell = </3

  • WTG DitchWitch. I thought the team on the left had a much cleaner cut than the DW crew, but you can not deny that they crossed the finish line first. Too bad it is not a real world contest where fiber is laid, connected and connectivity is achieved.

Personally more important than speed is durability, quality of connection and low to no maintenance once completed.

One thing is for sure, I plan to move to one of the Fiber To The Home communities!

  • @lamapper

Not sure what your looking at but DW was the one on the left and they had almost zero dirt on the ground on the first pass.

  • @lamapper

Not sure what your looking at but DW was the one on the left and they had almost zero dirt on the ground on the first pass. The one on the right was someone else and they did cross first but they did not win because of the mess they left behind

  • digging a grave with fiber optic, should be buying clearwire(dot)com with both fists...

  • @markbuz

I've used FiOS, CABLE, and (as you've mentioned) Clearwire services. The first 2 are pretty competative with each other in many aspects. Just how much money you plan to spend tends to be a major decision factor in any of their bandwidth plan offerings. As for your Clearwire, it's useful for people that Don't do a lot of heavy traffic over the internet.

People that frequently stream large files ,and hard core gamers, should look for a more lag-free ISP then Clearwire.

  • @markbuz clearwire is great, but it just doesn't have the ability to be the next generation infrastructure.

  • now if they cloud just run fiber to my door!

  • Sergey Brin and Larry Page walk by at 1:48 sec -------- check it !!!

  • ditch witch rulez!

  • Ditch Witch provide a total systems solution for all underground installations from trenchers & electronics to HDD. We provide machines that will drill and lay fibre optics under your front yard without disturbing so much as a ladybug. Our MT12 just one tiny but important part of installing fibre. the rest can be done HDD or with our range of impact moles.

The only things that suck Vermeer are our Vacuum Excavation Systems ;-) Care for a race? lol

  • Thats going to suck when the road gets moved..... Buy Vermeer. The FTTP Leaders.

  • So the fiber optic lines are going to connect each house directly in their Fiber project? so the lines will go under the roads. etc?

  • Going through sewers is easier...

  • @HWGuyEG

Well, at least in places where the ground is already full of crap.

  • i gotta ask. what happens if suddenly a hole in the road just happen to be in the path of the fibre optic cable?

  • We know the name of the winning team but So which is their trench......you can't tell from this video. Show us the difference in quality and why the other trenches had failures.

Should've had them cut, clean and lay the cable in the trench, hook it up and show infrastructure working off the cable and then seal the trench as part of the complete race process.

  • @SauronsEye At 1:21 the winning trench is the one on the far left of the shot. At 1:41 it's on the far right. The Quanta Services/Ditch Witch method cuts and vacuums the trench in one pass. I believe they did cut, clean, lay cable and backfill the trench.

  • @SauronsEye They said. Because they weren't clean or regulation.

  • @SauronsEye You couldn't see the trench from the winner (ditch witch) because it leaves a clean straight trench. When looking at the wide shot of all the trenches, they were on the left (orange trucks, orange hard hats)

  • 9" is average pot hole depth in NEW HAMPSHIRE, this could be a problem.. :-)

  • lol @ 2:23 " The drink?? "

  • @somerealnews way to use your mum to get the sympathy vote.

  • I don't get it... what are the ditches for?

  • @TheJacobHolmes to lay fiber optic cables

  • mega. I want one of those. a ditchwitch.

  • Waiting for the video response from CalTrans

  • It's too bad that the Marais SideCut system wasn't part of this race.

  • heyy, build one from my home in Spain to google !

  • HP = cool.

  • Very cool! I'd heard that Google held a race, and it's nice to see the video. We are also testing micro-trenching, it's exciting stuff!

  • good job google!! capitalism at is finest!!!

  • Google is awesome! Awesome stuff for free...or at least ultra competitive!

  • TEAM DITCH WITCH: Topeka promises free BBQ for your drag race team! :)

  • Haha I like the contrast even on YouTube...Google keeps their comments open while Apple disables them....seems like a simplistic translation/sum up of their business models

    : P

  • @CassettePlaya1 so true!

  • James you're famous!

  • Google is a for profit corporation with a social conscience. No wonder it is the world leader in everything they decide to get into. Can't wait for them to make the internet faster!

  • We didnt accept the fibre offer we got some time ago. Now we regret it. Please come and dig at our place!

  • @techfoxpl Sure was.

  • lol cute they had a podium and everything to stand on, bless. :P

  • Neat.

  • lolling at the no. of views. xD

  • naahh.. it's google video, who gives a damn xD
