  • Thanks for a very informative video. Neither one is 'better' than the other, they are just different - isn't it nice that different pedals make different sounds!

  • these are not the normail Analog man boxes, are they?

  • I have the bc-108 fuzz face when I use it I run it all the way up and the tone control on the guitar is 0 ( Bass ) I find that it drives the pedal harder and it gets a lot of over tones. thanks for posting this video.

  • seems like with all the BC108's i've heard, vs NKT275's, the BC108 has more texture, a cool "octave-up" kinda thing going on, and, well, more fuzz; the BC108 just sounds more interesting and wild, whereas the NKT275 sounds like a thick distortion pedal...

  • the 108 sounds very grungey with a lot of harmonics. But I preffer the Germanium for the compression in it, I like the mushy fuzz tone.

  • bc108 FTW!

  • Both of these sound TERRIBLE and not just because of the recording quality. I've built my own Fuzz Faces (Ge and Si) and they sound WAY better than this without using any really expensive transistors ($5 max). It sounds like you don't have them biased properly. If you have a voltmeter, measure the voltage on the collector of q2 (one end on the leg, the other on the back of a pot) and adjust the internal trimpot until you get somewhere between 4.5 and 5 volts. Will be much fatter with SUSTAIN

  • Bad recording/settings on amp or something. Check out youtube user gearmanndude

He has some AMAZING reviews and recordings of these and MANY more pedals

  • Yeah, it's awesome that Jack Black does those videos! I still think these are probably biased wrong though. They sound sputtery.

  • note to future viewers, the middle dial on these pedals is the bias adjust, so the sound on these pedals were simply to the player's taste. the version without the 'sundial' is biased to 5 volts by the builder

  • Shit, man.

The BC108 Transistor is The Deal.

  • This demo sounds "like shit" because their is no overdrive signal for the fuzz to blend with. Actually, this demo sounds just like the fuzzface sounds, however to really get a good sound as with all the classic recordings, you gotta blend fuzz with overdrive....

  • Actually, that's not how you use a fuzz pedal. You adjust the amp to right at the point where breakup starts and let the fuzz do the rest.

  • Thanks bro, which would prefer silicon or germ?, I think both are expensive germ sunface around 235 m´I right?

  • Hey! sounds great both pedals! I got a question, does Sunface Fuzz NKT275 have a power supply plug? or it just needs a battery.

    thanks!

Sunface Fuzz NKT275 means that it has germanium transistors?

    thanks a lot!

  • no and yes (no plug on NKT) and yes its germ the BC is Silicon

  • I'm sorry, but this is a terrible way to compare or display a fuzz pedal or any pedal for that matter. I normally play a "Fuzz type song" for 5 seconds for EACH pedal. IMO, fuzz pedals sound bestt through sealed back cabs, etc. The NKT-275 pedal is a touch sensitve pedal and is not for everyone.

  • actually I would agree - this was recorded back when Is till used the nasty camera mic and has the hollow honk sound that Ive come to dispise ; ] but I dont have either pedal anymore so its this or just take it down....

  • The NKT 275 transistors are no longer made. they are very rare and expensive. They were the original transistors used on the first generation Fuzzfaces. The sound cannot be duplicated without them. Many classic rock songs were recorded using the original Fuzzfaces.

  • 8--10 dollars a piece. google it--2-3 for the 108. not a deal breaker to opt for the 275.

I can buy as many as I want of the 275 at that price.

  • Donnerbox,

The last second (literally) of the video sounded awesome. Was that the NKT-275 or was that some kind of video anomaly because your clip was fading out?

  • heheh well yeah thats the mic fading out --- you could get a similar sound buy putting a graphic EQ after the fuzz and pulling most of the bass and low mids out

  • Maybe it's the quality of the guitar or amp or camera, I don't know, but that sounded like crap. I'm getting a NKT-275 very soon and I've heard clips that sounded much better.

  • Yeah actually i agree, Im in the process of remixing some of the videos and dumping the rest - Im using actual mics now rather than t he camera mic....

  • sounds like shit to be honest....tone is really flat and conventional

  • It's a tinny, cheap compressed videocamera mic.

    duh

  • the bc sounds better for solos but that just confuses me on that or standard sunface

  • for such expensive pedals, why can't analogman put LEDs?

  • He claims that the pedal lasts 4 times longer without one, and that it causes a pop when you hit the switch. LEDs are available as a $15 option. Seems a bit steep to me, though. I am guessing he has to use a different switch, but I don't think that justifies it.

  • Are you talking about battery life?

  • yes

  • Most likely the pedals are connected in series...

  • As the owner of that BC108, bought it from Donner, I can tell you that the fuzz is at about 90% in this video. There is a nice substantial kick to the gain in the last 10%. It's a great pedal for the late Hendrix tones. Cheers Donner! (Tea)

  • stratocaster , princeton reverb... from the video

  • Hey, thanks for the demo of the two but did you have the BC108's fuzz dime-ed? Also, what are you playing with (guitar, amp) and did you have the guitars volume dime-ed? Thanks!
