  • have to admit, like this song, reminds me of my 4th grade year.cowsills i believe are the singers on this !

  • THE GREATEST! And why I do what I do!

  • One of those songs that you turn up loud and just drive into the sunset. Carefree and living in God's creation.

  • Oh no, all these vids are out of sync! Boo hoo!

  • I read that kid Jeremy Krebs the one playing the drums was such an out of control kid, that he use to kick David Cassidy in the shins and freak out and throw stuff around and that`s why they got rid of him. LOL!

  • Chris is a riot in this. That is just so funny. Who knew he was so into it?

  • One of the best PF songs. Please don't ever stop putting PF out there for us to see. It's great that we can see these videos and listen to the music, it brings back alot of memories.

  • The beginning of the "great hair cut" of David Cassidy... what year?

  • I was pretty obsessed with this song as a kid. Watched the show every week and got the album for Christmas. I played it so much on Christmas day that my family told me to stop!

  • For some reason, this one's been on my mind lately. An underrated gem from Barry and Cyndi. Too bad Barry hasn't been on the road very much. Among the old "Brill Building" gang, he airs his songs as well as Carole does hers.

  • This might not be entirely my taste of music, but I love the arrangement, the vocals, and instrumentation. Kind of reminds me of Crosby, Stills & Nash. Respect! This is definitely the soulless, sterile Disney shit that tends to float around these days.

  • @skalanu

Huh? it sounds like you like this but I am not sure

  • @trevor40 No wonder you aren't sure... It would have helped if I had put in the little word "not" behind "definitely" in the last sentence. But yes, I do like this particular song.

  • @skalanu

This Is definitely Not Souless :-)

  • who sings the lead vocals on this song cause i no its not david

  • Absolutely love Chris at around 1:00 - 1:30 mark

He's going for an academy award back there!!!

Easily one of the best PF tunes.

    Thanks for posting!

  • Na minha adolescência eu assistia todos os episódios da família Dó-Ré-Mi (Brasil) ou Partridge Family (EUA). Não lembro deste episódio, mas adoro essa música. Sou fã deles até hoje!!...

  • I agree with trevor40...

Don't care who composed or sang this song. I feel better after listening :)

  • I dont care who is singing/playing--THIS IS A GREAT SONG!!!!!!!!

  • David doesn't actually sing on this song, just shirley. It's an odd fact but true... I love this music and all that the partridge family show did for us. WOW.. memories...I was an infant...in a box at times, but an infant back then. HOOTIE HOOT !

  • One of my very favorite Partridge Family songs!!

  • HAHA You are so right about little Jeremy Gelbwaks at 1:28. He has completely stopped playing drums and instead has extended his arms for emphasis on the big singing note. I never noticed that before.

  • Nobody is playing instraments you dork..This is the vocal track they are recording..

  • Music got so ornate in this era, needed a lot of pros to get this kind of beautiful sound without electronics.

  • What a beautifully produced piece of music. And I believe it was recorded in MONO to boot. The good old days when talent trumped technology, no computers to save your butt.

  • Dont get me wrong..i understand partrige is defenitaly a defining show of the 70's. and this song is very good. but if i may, an adult voiced group and only one adult in the band ...o0h okay, david , you can count him. but your really borderlining it. lol.

  • the red headed boy always seemed too happy. even for the 70's.

  • (1:06) who says string instruments were no longer needed at this point. Bass guitar and electric totally disapeared.

  • wheres the violin...???....i can here it...ooh im loosin it.

  • But First we had to get through the Brady Bunch

  • I liked the Brady Bunch as a TV show especially the early ones because I was the same age as Cindy, but when they sang, I didnt like them at all. The Partridge sound was much more professional.. even though David and Shirley sang, the sound ws more believable.

  • I enjoyed this a lot! Thanks!

  • Love this beautiful song.

  • Timeless, thanks for posting!

  • Probably my favorite Partridge Family tune.

    These videos are awesome.........:)

  • Sounds good. A stereo treat. Super Hi-Fi for 1970. "So I'm on the road." David Cassidy's vocals always stole the show. This is the first song on side two of their classic first album.

  • Growing up I spent Friday nites with a special aunt & she always watched the Partridge Family with me. She just passed away this morning so these songs bring back sweet but painful memories. God bless you Aunt Nell.

  • I'm sorry about your loss, but I'm sure she enjoyed spending Friday nights watching the show with you as much as you did.

  • r u the real, the REAL, partridge family?

  • This is sweet!!This video represents all that is great about the Partridge Family. A family who are great muscians and also happen to all have perfect pitch at all ages. If it were only real! Damn!........

  • This song always took me on a road trip when I heard it. I can picture shady country roads and fields...

  • Great song!

What a blast from the past!!

    Thanks!!!

    George Vreeland Hill

  • Definitely one of the best Mann/Weil songs from their catalogue. Great melody and great studio musicians. I make no bones about how much I love glossy well produced pop of the 60's 70's and 80's. The Partridge Family had the top writers and musicians of that era.

  • Since songs were produced by Wes Ferrell, this song was supposed to be recorded by the Cowsills (They were suppose to be the cast in the series). Wes produced several Cowsills recordings. This recording doesn't include David Cassidy in the vocal. It was finished before they discovered David can sing. (note the staged recording session). Great song, great production.

  • great songs love them all!!!!!!!!

  • I just love Jeremy at 1:28. Now THAT'S acting! hehe

  • I've always thought this was a very underrated Partridge Family song. It's one of my favorites from their first LP. The soaring vocals on it are great. It's a shame it only appeared in one episode - and abbreviated at that.

It's GREAT that you creatively put the entire song with additional footage. Way to go!

  • Oops wanted to put thumbs up for this one!

Love this song and remember listening when I was 9years old! Great video

  • This is awesome music. Nothing like it today.

  • Tom and John Bahler did tons of back-up singing for various artists, and fronted a sort-lived Summer of Love group called "The Love Generation" in 67-68. Had only one fair-sized hit, "Groovy Summertime", but released 3 albums. By the way, Chris #1 was sure a cutie!

  • I know that in the vaults at ABC, there's a commercial that was used in 1971 to plug the show that used the scene of the camera being pulled back at 1:38-1:43 to show Shirley singing the phrase: "Travel free and easy" wearing the headphones. It was used at the same time at the start of the "This is the place to be at ABC" campaign.

  • Wow--great memory.

  • David became the lead for the group, but it is interesting to hear what it's like without him. One of my very favorite PF songs, and also one of the most obscure.

  • R.I.P. Robert (1962-2007)

You loved this song and you were my pal in Summer of '71 when everyone else teased me. We'd walk to 7-11 to get Cola Slurpees and Partridge Family trading cards ("Painting the Bus") and together we'd sing "Singing My Song."

I'm sorry I lost touch, Buddy.

  • Hey you've got some great memories there.

  • Thanks. It was weird, because we'd be in his parents living room and he'd put on "Partridge Family Album." Because he knew all the lyrics, he'd (ironically, now that he's gone) he'd sing Keith's line: "Gotta fill my life with livin.'"

    Thanks for writing back.

  • Mark, I have to tell you, every time I play this clip and read your tribute to your friend, I cry. Can't say enough how it touches me on so many levels. I was born the same year as your friend, I was a Partridge geek -- had all the LPs and played "Brown Eyes" on the piano at my 6th grade recital). I've let a lot of my adult life slip by without sharing my musical gifts with the world, and that's about to change. Thanks both to you, Mark, and to PF4ever for posting this great song.

  • CreoleCW, thank you very much for writing back to me. I didn't answer before because I had canceled my account before I saw your response. I'm really inspired by your initiative. I know you'll do very well.

Thanks for saying what you did about my good pal. It means a lot to me that we're all within a few years age of one another and we all share a history of common experience. I don't know if the rising generation will have something as special as The Partridges, but I hope they will.

  • What a song. What a song.

  • This was always a FANTASTIC SONG! The way this song slides into the chorus is phenomenal ("settle up before I settle down"...just love that). And then the chorus itself is great. Easily The Partridge Family's best song. Thanks so much for this.

  • I like what you said! It's really enjoyable to read someone else's viewpoint. I took much of the way the song is performed for granted, having heard it many times, but the way you expressed yourself, I thought: "You know, that's right. It IS an interesting turn."

  • So Fun.

  • I recently discovered after having and listening to the "The Patridge Family Album" after all these years that this was one of the songs that was actually MONO. i coudn't believe it. I guess it was so expertly recorded that with the masterfully layered vocals that I never noticed until I got the CD 30 years later.

What I'd like to know is if the DVD version of this song that I assume this video is taken from is in stereo?

  • I used to leave my bass rig on stand by all the time. Always thought that it was on the fritz! Danny, I think Keith flipped the toggle switch to stand by to make you look bad. Typical front man...

  • What amazes me is all the comments here are what Ive been saying for years, and its so cool to know there are lots of PF lovers out there still! I still have my old records books and cards, and old VHS tapes from 1980-81 when I taped PF when it was on at midnight, so there were no commercials, just straight film with the tags before and after scenes & Shirleys announcing "back after this message" . so awesome!

  • I threw out all my old books, cards, posters, boxes of 16 magazines....how I regret it now.

  • I still like this song...

  • It IS kind of funny that they expected us to think that Shirley and "the kids" were singing this, but that was part of the magic. We didn't care. It was fun...and our innocence allowed us to believe in alot of crazy stuff back then.

  • well this was the only song i think that david didn't sing--oh yes this was magic!!!!!!!!!!too bad its not like this today!

  • No that's really him singing. Cassidy had a tremendous vocal range.

  • Cassidy did have a very good voice, but that's not him on this song. In the very early episodes, the producers didn't realize his abilities, so the Bahler Brothers sang lead. This is stated in the Partridge Family Album (a great book, if you're a fan, BTW). David also doesn't sing lead on "To Be Lovers" and "I Really Want To Know You".

And honestly, if you really listen, this doesn't sound anything like Cassidy.

  • I always wondered that myself because the voice was quite different on those songs. I guess I previously heard false information.

  • David must have hated lip-syncing to another guys voice - namely the talented Tom Bahler... Nice job on this video!
