If you wanted to read some articles on the aesthetics of John Cage they might help you to understand him more clearly, or if you did some dance classes you might understand the virtuosity and quality of the dancing, but your sense of 'I don't get it' or 'this doesn't work for me' is common for people, even within the avant-garde.
