Bathory will always be my No.1 band and Quorthons solo stuff. I had the good fortune of meeting him back when Hammerheart had just been released, top bloke. Very friendly and generous. RIP Old Friend.
Most people tend to frown on Venom, mostly because their music was simple but most of black metal is simple and that was the point, to lose the interest of the overly mainstream metal scene that was forming in the early 80's. Man I'm glad I was born now when metal is underground and such great bands already exist without some scene to dictate them. Although their is still deathcore, fuck...
@Sigfodr777 I beg to differ, dude, I GREW UP when bands like Venom and Bathory came out, when Metallica released Kill em all and Lightning, When Slayer released Show no mercy, when Celtic frost emerged, Candlemass released Nightfall, bands like Sodom and Possessed came out, all fresh, all exciting, all trying to create their own unique sound, and all influential in what I hear today.. swallow the sun, OPETH, amon amarth, Katatonia, nothing would have existed without the eighties scene.
@Sigfodr777 um, are you kidding? most music that comes out today still comes from a scene, and metal is probably no more underground than it was back then. you still have your big, famous metal bands, but just like back then, there are also lots of quality underground bands.
@iarwhgipuhargpih people who like good charlote just don´t know this. even me, i listen to heavy metal since 13 years old (i´m 23 now), i didn´t know that bathory was this good!
Quorthon, I hope you reached your Valhalla for what you've done for viking metal. You will always stay in my heart as the greatest pioneer of all kind of metal...
I love how this a continuance of through blood by thunder. pure fucking genius. Quorthon god, the man invented black metal (fuck venom) and viking metal
@Anonymous4TheWin Fuck Venom? Sure, I agree Bathory was the real creator of Black Metal, but that doesn't mean you have to be disrespectful to a classic and highly influential band such as Venom, which helped pioneer extreme metal as a whole.
@DeathMetalB4Dishonor I agree man , all originating bands deserve credit for the music we have today , ALL OF THEM. Doesnt matter who started what and what came first , what matters is the infuences these bands had and the effect on new bands and such it provides , thank the metal gods.
@Anonymous4TheWin The band was named after a venom song... Countess bathory. Hammerheart was the first true viking metal album released. Credit is deserved were credit is due. Atleast check out bathory's venom covers , they did more then 1.
