Great clip, Anita had an incredible sense of timing. I wish more singers would listen to her. Ever reliable Roman Dylag is doing a great job and works well w.John Poole, but the piano player is lost in his solo at about 2:00.However, to be fair he was doing a nice job accompanying her up to that point.
Ta mate, but I will stick to the joints and beer, although I must say they American jazzers could make some amazing standards while smacked out there tits. RESPECT.
Once again, nobody could sing this song like her. Her pitch accuracy and ability to scat with the words at this tempo in unbelievable. The drummer is John Payne? Anyway, he was a great drummer and they had this weird junkie relationship, but musically they were also very tight. She must have been able to play some drums as well with that kind of timing.
@fingerscarr I dont understand what you are getting at ? If the tempo is too fast for you then you can always listen to Blosom Dearie's version. Its almost as slow as you are . Hohoho Merry Christmas.
I can´t get the last ones videos of her singing whit her husbund (drums): I saw a beautifull performance by TV 2 years ago. Somebody knows about it? Greetings from Argentina (Anita O´Day´s fan)
Actually, it's a quartet: piano, bass, drums & voice. I 've never seen a singer acting so much like an instrument of the band, rather than leading. Extraordinary!
@Timewaste75 Thanks for that, was the drummer really ''out his nut'' in this video? I know that a lot of jazzers liked there gear but they still made some great music.
I think that Chet Bakers a god, but just a lowlife (talented) junkie in real life, I have trouble following the form after a couple of joints. lol
I love this reminds me of my youth when I saw her in person in Fresno CA. my home town. With my pal John Seibert. We were flying even higher after seeing her.
@rtotoian Great comment mate..... I cant beleive that she is on the kit in this clip. I have trouble following the form afetr a joint and a couple of drinks. Amazing. Cheers from Scotland and ''Aw the best for 2011''.
That's my buddy John Poole on the drums :)

Anita was the Charlie Parker of singers.
I expect that a lot of musician's were unable to keep up with her.
This is brilliant.

Anita's a goddess. What TIME! Great bassist and drummer. (Her boyfriend?) The piano player seemed to have a difficult time with the tempo.

Wow what a classy time piece and fine musicianship. Thanks for loading this. Anita O'Day is fantastic and such an eloquently jazzy chanteuse.

Great performance!
I really like how the only guy who Anita manages to throw off is the technical director of the broadcast, who sometimes mixes up the camera angles!

Awesome! It is incredibly difficult to sing at that tempo and then to scat on top! One of my most admired singers!
