I spent the summer of '78 in The States and they were talking about a British invasion then! I seem to remember much of the top 20 being British artists The Police, Dire Straits, Gerry Rafferty, Queen, Clapton, Genesis, Kate Bush, 10cc, ELO, The Jam, Chris Rea, Robert Palmer, The Clash, Rod Stewart, Elvis Costello, Al Stewart, The Sweet and not forgetting the Who and The Rolling Stones who were still making hits in the States in that year! - even the Bee Gees if you want to include them . . .
I was there and have the 45's & LP's to prove it! Many people are mistaken and include the late 60's as being part of the British Invasion. The invasion came in 3 parts - the initial wave of '64, secondary wave in '65, and the minor wave in '66. By '67, the music was different - even the Beatles & Stones music had entered the beginning of the Psychedelic era. Any post '66 British artist cannot be counted as coming from the British Invasion. Sorry, comment restrictions won't let me elaborate.
To be honest this should just be called brilliant bands of the 60s compilation. Just because there is loads and loads you have missed out…nice few choices tho
everybody when talking about British invasion always misses out the bee gees I don’t know why coz they was brilliant in the 1960s, just as good as the Beatles, stones, who, kinks ect
Animals,Bachelors,Beatles,Cilla Black,Chad&Jeremy,Dave Clark Five,Petula Clark, Spencer Davis Group, Donovan, Marianne Faithful,Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders,Fortunes,Freddie and the Dreamers,Gerry&Pacemakers,Herman's Hermits,Hollies,Honeycombs,Tom Jones,Kinks,Billy J. Woah, not to piss off all the old homies here but the 1960s were a bleak time musically. Even pink floyd was shit in the 60s. Today's music is much better, but to be fair technology has advanced by nearly 50 years.
@dontbringaguntoa Sorry but you are mistaken. With the advancement of technology (in music), the level of music talent seems to get worse and worse. Precisely it is technology which makes the songs of today somewhat "listenable". But songs like the 60's? Cannot be repeated. True talent my friend we find in any decade before the late 90's and 00's.
You're absolutely right, it seems like everyone's a "DJ" and good quality original content has been pushed heavily underground. listening to mainstream pop and rock nowadays is the aural equivalent of eating cold tapioca pudding. While I may not be a fan of the 60s sound (percussion is always seriously weak for some reason - drummers sound like they're building sheds or assembling ikea furniture with a large rock) I agree that something changed mid nineties. Good music can still be found however
@eurodishco agree 100% the Ipod and mp3 are making people lazy and the same thing happens with art and writng. because people rely on them it makes them lazy
excuse me But!!! what do you know about the 60s" you were nt even born so cannot even comprehend what music was really like unless you lived it ... you had to be there ok? ..

Yeah we'll I think I've had enough of it inflicted upon me over the last 20 years. The fact that you experienced it actually makes you biased since people always feel attached to music they listened to when they were teenagers. All that aside, can you honestly say your that pumped up on literally hundreds of 4 piece bands singing girlish poetry and strumming major and minor chords. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. I'll take some electro funk with a side of house s'il vous plait.
excellent vid !!! this represents alot of the British Invasion to me.. But forgot The Hollies !!!!!!!! The Best Group of the 60s' xxx ..yes !!!! Allan Clarke was the best lead singer of all time in my generation.. love you Allan xxxx...Lyndloo,,..
Peter and Gordon, the Rolling Stones, the Animals, The Bachelors, Chad and Jeremy, Gerry and the Pacemakers, The Kinks, The Minbenders, The Searchers, The Seekers. Many more bands involved in british invasion. I would have replaced Pink Floyd with Peter and gordon but that's just me
I put the slash to mean the yardbirds led up to zep, not that they were seperate influences. and i'm pretty sure that the yardbirds did plenty of work in America, as did zep when page formed zep in 1968.
@garymichael1950 SOME OTHER BANDS OF THE BRITISH INVASION WERE THE KINKS, ZOMBIES, THE DAVE CLARK FIVE, HERMAN'S HERMITS, AND THE BAND THAT EVENTUALLY BECAME LED ZEPELLIN, THE YARDBIRDS
@garymichael1950 you sir are not very smart led zepplin is acid rock they first came out in 1969 and where are the from Great Britain which makes them part of the british invasion
@HiImKodyB Well ....No. The So called "British Invasion" was over by then. It has a great deal more to do than just being from England. Yardbirds yes..Zep No.
it would've been better to have used an ORIGINAL Beatles tune instead of a cover of a US hit,the debut single by The Marvelettes for the Tamla (Motown) label, "Dobbins/Garett/Brianbert," the songwriters.
I think they were showing how much American R & B Singers had a major impact on British Singers. Oh, you may not know this but in the 1960's Motown did a Beatles Tribute Album, called "Motown Salutes The Beatles". I don't think you can get it today but if you check on EBAY, you never know.
So Gerry and the Pacemakers, The Kinks, Peter & Gordon, DC5, The Animals, Bowie, Wayne Fontana, The Troggs, Dusty, Freddie & The Dreamers, Donovan, The dakotas, Chad & jeremy were what? Spanish Invasion?
It would have to be a looonngggg video to get in all those acts. I love The Who but their clip is from Woodstock (1969) and the British Invasion usually refers to 1964-65. By 69 they had conquered.
The Rolling Stones, the best Band ever! Unfortunately forgotten in the description of "British Invasion" but therefore at least honored in the Video with Paint it Black. Also unforgotten "The Who"..... The Video should have been started with the Stones or the Who, not with that soft song from the Beatles..... therefore only 2 Stars
Like guisisarocker says, While the Who are a great British band and Townshend par with Ray Davies the best writer of all time, it wasnt a big driving force behind the invasion. I believe their first U.S hit was A quick One or I'm a boy, years after forming. They are the greatest mod act of all time and always will be. Also forgetting Herman's Hermits the first band to make a fuzz over seas its pretty bad.
In Canada their first hit was Happy Jack, though Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere got some FM play before that. A Quick One (check out the Rock and Roll Circus version, much better than Monterey) was a few years later.
haha but guess what guys you all forgot THE BEATLES

How ironic that the second song you featured was originally sung by the Marvelettes, of Tamla records. The Beatles covered it.

No way! Music in the 60's paved the way for a lot of music today... Except the only difference is that music back then was good.
