I thank my mother for giving me this movie. It's been perhaps.. 10 years since I watched it. Of course I've watched hundreds of movies since then, but this one and The Lion King, are the movies I can really remember. I cried myself to sleep after Artax died. Saddest animal death in movies. Horrible scene T_T Great movie though. You don't see movies like this one anymore. This is one of my favorite movies.

I loved this movie so much. I cried when Artax died, I believed in Atreyu when he got past the Sphinx Gate, and at the very end when Bastian flew on Falcor, it felt like my heart was flying with them.

@MavenSarah I love this movie too! The part I cried at, and still do, is when Atreyu lost his horse. I love animals so much and to see that just made me so sad. Falcor looks a lot like my dog who passed away about 3 years ago. I, too, wish they made movies like this again. The song brings me so many good memories and dreams I had as a kid. I'd get totally lost in movies like this that it just seemed so real. I'll never forget the happiness this movie brought to me. :-)

@thrillerknightmare It's worse than that because the horse actually died. They had him on a platform so he would sink into the swamp and they couldn't get it raised again in time. And the boy who played Atreyu was so shaken up by it, he didn't return to filming for 2 weeks.

@Dalen77 Very cool! Have you ever read the book? I dare say, that the movie was an exception from the norm. It was actually better than the book. Atreyu had blue skin, Bastian was a fat kid, Falkor did not rescue Atreyu from the swamps of sadness, Atreyu rescued him from a giant spider. Cairon was actually a centaur like the legendary mythical figure, in the movie he was not. They both had their pros and cons. Michael Ende actually tried to sue the Production company of the movie, but he lost.

@MackenzieMichael Yes read the book, thinking it was going to be really great, yeah I thought it was a little dumb, I can't believe Ende sued them thank goodness he lost, the Movie was so good, I think the Director Wolfgang Peterson is really good at making films realistic so he basically took a children's fantasy film but treated it like an adult movie. I loved the music too, the actors casting directing effects music everything flowed together perfectly.

Hearing this again, man you feel so transported back to the 80s when you were a child, and you had penutbutter and fluff sandwiches, and it seemed like E.T. was just around the corner, and Michael Jackson was so real. The sun in the sky almost seemed younger, the world seemed more tranquil and hidden in an unbeknownst time capsule of an impending future of change it would not foresee but yet felt it was already in.
