I saw one of his last performances as Jesus and spoke with him in his dressing room about the role after. It was amazing what he did and the power he put behind every note. The performance was amazing!
saw jcs sometime in the late 70s in london somewhere made a huge impression on me then, i only wish i could have seen this performance with the great mr neely, truly awesome.........
Such passion! What a performance! I've heard him sing better(amazingly, even in 2010!) but even at a "bad night" he surely strives where others can only dream of ever reaching! He owns the role as no one else can!
He is amazing.. a finely tuned instrument that has inspired and influenced me my entire life. I first heard this rock opera from my music teacher when I was 11 years old. I have never forgotten any of these songs as I listened to the original recording with Ian Gillan every day after school in my record collection. Then came the movie with Ted Neeley and Yvonne Elliman and I will forever hold this in a sacred spot in my heart. I grew up and actually performed the part of Mary Magdalene. <3
@abiraghi.....Incredibly awesome! In his sixties and still giving us the energy he did in his twenties and always his heart and soul in all his performances!
Namdooga you must not have read my description or you'd know Ted Neely, who is now in his sixties, not only still performs as the true professional he is & w/tremendous talent & craft BUT HE PERFORMED THIS SONG WHILE HE WAS ILL.And for an actor/singer to even put forth what he did here while physically ill is a true testimony to his professionalism, loyality, strong will AND talent. As for fans, this fact alone should validate his greatness & he can be forgiven for a missed beat & croaky scream.
IMHO, Missing all the beats like this, getting so far behind his accompanying music, is a huge disappointment for fans who want to hear the song the way it was done in the studio. That's not to mention he looks more like a professor negotiating than the son of man in his most tremendous hour of need. Just wish Gillan's performance were on video...at least that guy could stay on beat and scream on tune.
I wonder if i will ever be able to not cry during his performance of this song. I really don't think so.

Fantastic. I am drowning on my tears. How intense can a perfmance be when the singer can turn himself into God.

WOW!!! Ted is incredible. He sounds like he did in 1973. If this is how he sounds while sick I'd would love to hear him sing when he isn't sick.

@SharonMP he can put his emotion into it because it is a human condition where we all have to die, i think thats why this song transcends religion.
