  • nice guy. i was waiting for something about this being god's judgement, glad it never came.

  • Pray for him so you can "use" him in another debate...? Great choice of words. Where are your morals aligned with that notion? The "Holier Than Thou" crowd needs to be humbled by their own faults.

  • If prayer really works then we have already found the cure for cancer. We have not found a cure for cancer so that means that prayer doesn't work.

  • I doubt if you could ever understand why you are getting so many thumbs down for a simple best wishes message.

  • These self righteous fairy tale believers make me sick. Saying they are going to pray for someone is a total ego thing. It says "Look at me, I have a special relationship with the invisible sky daddy, and it's all about me"

  • The only reason why christians are praying for Chris Hitchens is so you can say that god healed him of cancer whenever his cancer has gone away. Cancer can be healed through medicine, surgery, kemo-therapy, and the organs in our body.

  • I HEAR HE IS PRAYING FOR HIMSELF NOW!!!

  • @Einstein1922 where you hear that?

  • @Einstein1922 No you did not and Christopher wont ever pray unless he goes senile in the end like he says himself. Praying is for schizotypal deluded primitive subhumans and Christopher certainly is non of that cause he uses his brain, he thinks and is honest. I have never met a really honest religious person yet and I have been around for half a century +.

  • @isleofyew1

Yes, it has been verified... Hitchens now prays.

  • @Einstein1922 lies look ugly on you.

  • @Rivalen5

Lies look very comfortable on you....

Hitchen's has found God... be happy for him libtard!

  • @Einstein1922 Proof please, I'm not satisfied with "it has been verified". He said himself that if senility would occur in the end, he might pray due to the brain damage. A bit like shitting himself proving only that unhealthy brains facilitate religious delusions. I certainly have not seen any filmed proof that he sank so low and I would hope he's brave and smart enough to step out of life before. I hope he lives but otherwise dies with atheist dignity.

  • @isleofyew1

Yes!!! I read that too on the Huffington Post. Christopher Hitchenis now practicing Catholicism. I hope it goes well for him, but it difficult to think that he has suddenly gotten smart just because he is dying. Better off to be a dumb ass like you. Full of derision, delusion and sperm.

  • @tonycolbert1 Derision was the right angle here. THX.

  • @isleofyew1

I READ IT IN THE "CATHOLIC HERALD" GOD BLESS HIM AND I PRAY FOR HIS CONVERSION AND REPENTANCE!

  • @seanvikeen I hope you do not think that The Catholic Herald" is reputable and trustworthy. Lying or inventing news is a Catholic speciality. Like I stated before, I would like real proof before believing, certainly for such a convenient claim.

  • @isleofyew1

Wake up dude and cut Hitchins some slack, allow him to die in peace awary from your idiotic rhetoric. He isn't one of your gods now.

  • @seanvikeen Just because you don't like does not mean it's idiotic. The fact that you read The Catholic Herald possibly indicates you are somewhat schizotypal, unless you do because you like good jokes. Bye my friend, you may pray for my non existing soul all you like in case you are that deluded.

  • @isleofyew1

Actually... it sounds pretty idiotic Libtard!...lol

  • @isleofyew1

If it looks like an idiot, talks like an idiot, and speaks like an idiot, chances are it is you... Libtard....LOL

  • @Einstein1922 Still no proof, only print.

  • @isleofyew1

Ironically, I don't like it, and you still sound like an idiot.

You have to wake up and start reading something beside Mother Jones and listening to NPR

  • @seanvikeen Still no proof offered.

  • @seanvikeen

It was very weird to hear that Christopher Hitchen's doctors have released information on his praying and meditating every day. It explodes everything that I have believed about life and death and Christopher Hitchens. I am very disappointed. Why after all these years does he suddenly forsake our religion of atheism?

  • @kingarthurup

Don't be disappointed, afford him his peace unlike other idiots that continue to follow the religion of Atheism.

  • @isleofyew1

there is this really cool thing now called "google"... what you do is type in something that you want to look up and than you click on search.... do it yourself you lazy azz Libtard atheist...LOL

wow... what a concept...Do the work yourself?... weird hey?.... are you union?...Odumba voter? or doesn't your food assistance cover that much exertion?

  • @Einstein1922 Looking up via google or reading publications in newspapers is not proving things since propaganda infects both. I only ask for video proof.

  • @isleofyew1

You want video evidence of Christopher Hitchens fighiting cancer praying to our God...?... you sick, twisted, Odumba voting, koolaid drinking, Libtard.... grow up and get a God.

  • @Einstein1922 Oh, I get it now. You have been joking/play acting all this time. "Get a God" is very funny.

  • @isleofyew1

    Get a brain too!

    LOL

  • @Einstein1922

NEW YORK TIMES PRINTS.....HITCHINS APPRECIATES THE PRAYERS: When asked, “Do you find it insulting for people to pray for you?” Mr. Hitchens responded: “No, no. I take it kindly, under the assumption that they are praying for my recovery.”

  • @upvolleyball

Makes me sick that he would sell out Atheism on his death bed.

  • @kingarthurup

Yes... it really kicks your religion right in the balls....

  • @upvolleyball

Yes, interesting that he would say he appreciates prayer...LOL....

    bet it pisses off @islefewbraincells....

  • @isleofyew1

You are one sick atheist. Let the guy die.

  • You theists pray for him all you want, he will THINK for you.

  • @mauriciohavok

    THINK for us???? LOL

    Until he croaks?

  • @Einstein1922 Yes.

  • @mauriciohavok

Well, if he keeps on praying... maybe he can think for us after that!!!

  • @Einstein1922 Yeah, chemotherapy has nothing to do with it, but let's entretain the idea that is prayer what cures him, then what if he dies? you didn't pray enough?

  • @mauriciohavok

Unfortunately, he was probably damned from the start, but you really should educate yourself. Check out a couple of scientific studies on the power of prayer. Hitchens is not as stupid as you look.

  • @Einstein1922 lol religion trying to understand science, fail.

  • @mauriciohavok

    It's basically a win-win situation for them:

if he heals it means Christians are right,

If he doesn't it's because Atheists didn't help.

  • I for Once dont agrea with Christopher Hitchens but I wish him a quick recovery and I will pray for him, as much I would pray for Hittle, Stallin, Richard Dawkins or any of my fellow man.

Your all my brothers and sisters and I love you very deep! :)

    P.S.

Sorry for my bad speeling, I'm not from an English talking country and I'm steal learning your beautyfull leanguege

  • @maciekur you would actually pray for Hitler or Stalin? that doesn't give you a moral high ground, it makes you an insensitive prick, and putting Richard Dawkins in the same category than those monsters makes you look like an intolerant asshole, I hate Kirk Cameron and Ray Comfort, but I would never compare them to monsters such as Hitler or Stalin. you sir, are a dick.

  • @mauriciohavok

I love any person on this planet, as we all are one big family. Even the bigots

  • this just proves that religion only targets the physically and mentally weak

  • @ProjectDecade Couldn't have said it better.

  • god does say to love your enemies. and this man, my fellow Christians, is most definitely our enemy. but we must pray

  • Larry. You said in another video that Hitch was the only one talking about pray for Hitchens day. Because you hadn't come across it yourself you felt it wasn't all over the web like it is. It is all over the web, lots of people are talking of it.

You came across in that video as a smug, nasty person who was still just trying to score points.

FYI, he'd never be arguing the case for Christianity or any religion. Even if his mind were lost to illness, he'd still be too intelligent for that.

  • Some believers simply cannot understand that there are people who are able to face death without resorting to comforting fairy tales. That's why you hear all these "atheists in a foxhole" comments.

  • I am fascinated by the comment "we've gotten to know him... we are really wondering the degree to which CH believes what he says." As an atheist, I have also had my demonstrations of empathy or generosity interpreted as me being on a path towards Christ. Larry needs to understand that empathic or principled atheists are the poster children for a non-mystical morality that can be achieve by anyone that holds Reason as a primary value.

  • Your tone of voice speaks volumes. Also, you say, "To what extent does Christopher really believe some of the things he says?" At least he isn't a fool who believes in talking snakes, and endless idiocies, etc. etc. etc. Again, just LISTEN to your tone.

  • :

(I hope some1 will pass this comment 2 Christopher Hitchens so soon) On my tube:

    Apollo 11 testify 4 God & Islam

Google Earth testify 4 God & Islam

Ice Age testify 4 God & Islam. And more...

    :

  • Okay, I'm thankful that you aren't being cruel, but will people PLEASE stop with the "oh, well, since he's dying maybe NOW he'll convert" It's rude, disregards his life work, and seems really opportunistic. He's not going to convert, just wish him well and leave it at that.

  • I have just created a twitter account and I am publicizing the username and password so that anyone who wants to may access the account and post a message to Hitchens.

    user: tweethitch

    password: hitch22

  • Theres something rather sinister embeded in the idea that people are praying for christopher hitchens' survival of cancer. It is an entirely contradictory and irrational thing to do. It implies that people really aren't that commoted about the actual idea of his fatality, but really more concerned with the idea that they can prove they have moral sanctity. Anyone who does pray for him really doesn't have a depth for sentiment, nor an understanding of the true character of hitchens.

  • @mrfardy91 I don't see why you think you know what is going on inside someone who prays for him. It could be many things. Even if someone isn't interested in his survival, they could be trying to heal their own feelings about him. Or whatever.

And if they do care for him, isn't it natural to wish to heal him? I wish I had the power to heal him.

  • turdbogbuster does not represent the Christian worldview.

I don't know absolutely that he is a troll but he is certainly troll-like.

    Best wishes toward Mr. Hitchens.

  • christians suck. if there is a god, he's a total asshole for making people suffer.

  • And not only that, but while Christians are sitting around praying for people to be cured from cancer, those of us atheists who care about the disease will be trying to actually do something about it: make a donation to the cancer society; go in a run for the cure; actually visit and spend time with a patient rather than just tell them you are praying for them! Guess where the cure for people like Htichens will eventually come from: science or prayer?

  • @canadianplanter

In the time it took you to type that some where in the world another Christian founded health center opened.

  • Even if Hitchens had lived to age 105 and died of natural causes in old age, Christians would still claim that God was punishing him. We all die. Sadly it is Hitchens' turn. His cancer is very understandable through science. He is the first to admit that.

  • @canadianplanter And they'd still not have an excuse why god would care to kill this great man while killing little children who'd parents put 100% faith in him. I love that Christopher atleast called out the idiocy of christians waiting for someone to say there is a god as if that's proof and would make us feel any different about his messages while he was thinking clearly.

  • You have heard that is was said, 'you shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your father who is in heaven. Matthew 5:43-45 I pray for Mr. Hitchens because that is what Jesus would do. I pray that he has a quick and painless recovery, strenght for his family and that he may come closer to God. Christopher...God loves you and so do we! We pray that you recover soon.

  • I this PERVERT dead yet?

  • @turdbogbuster You find Hitchens a bit threatening, don't you?

  • @FaganRoberts not really, his methods are just offensive and crude, lacking the true subtlety to make any real impact. I'm glad however he is due a painful death! RIP 2010 Christopher Hitchens, may god have mercy on your soul!!

  • @turdbogbuster You really are a living example of how religion can sicken the brain and corrupt moral reason.

  • @FaganRoberts look at some of the vile comments on Youtube from atheists, hardly a shining example of tolerance, love and understanding!!

  • @turdbogbuster As a Christian, I am dissapointed with your comment. You mentioned God yet you do not know what he would do. God would tell you to pray for Mr.Hitchens and not to condemn him. Stop the insults and bad commentary; pray for him and show him the love that God has shown through his son Jesus Christ.

  • :'(

  • Cannabis sativa is a leafy-green plant therefor, invariably, it contains the bitter substance of Amygdalin the molecularity of which breaks down into 2 parts glucose, 1 part hydrogen cyanide and 1 part benzaldahyde (an analgesic pain reliever). It's the hydrogen cyanide that destroys the negatively-charged cancerous cells. This form of cyanide only effects malignant cells. Indeed many B vitamins, all of which we cannot live without, contain a form of cyanide.

  • Come on you guys.....can't you show the same Christian love that Larry is showing? Don't you realize by your nasty comments that you're only feeding right into the negative beliefs atheists already have about us? You're not at all showing the love of Christ. Christopher, my heart goes out to you, I pray for God's healing touch on your illness and your life. Whatever happens, I pray you will feel the touch of His hand. God bless you.

  • @BornWhiteSupremacy you are a complete idiot, you think his cancer is from talking bad about a fictional character?

your name is 'bornwhitesupremacy' wouldnt your 'god' not like that?

another thing i dont understand. If god was in the middle east, why has our culture depicted him as white?

Wouldnt he have been brown? Or did the white man create him as white?

nevertheless, god is fake.. you need to put down the fictional stories

  • Comment removed

  • Lets see how good your God is, no I'm sure Christopher has a much better chance with doctors, your God couldn't stop 9/11, WW1, WW2, etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc

  • Christopher Hitchens getting cancer has nothing to do with him being a spokesman for the new atheists. It is most likely due to his smoking. I'm a christian and this should also be obvious to other christians. God isn't going to judge us in this life. Christians get cancer just as much as anyone else. This world is fallen and terrible things happen in this world to EVERYBODY because it is corrupted by sin. Any christians that are saying that this is judgement on Hitchins please read genesis 3

  • Why don’t christians get to getter and pray for people that have hade an amputee....?

That’s because we ALL know that the extremities don’t groove out again. Just because it’s cancer and we don’t really understand it we put our fait in good.

Please leave Mr. Hitchens alone and really read what he has written instead.

  • @maigeri32 "Why don’t christians get to getter and pray for people that have hade an amputee....?"

Because God CREATED us to exist quite well with one hand, one leg, one eye and in the case of atheists...only half a brain.

  • @bornagain001

It only takes half a brain to be smarter than a creationist.

  • @bornagain001 That's rich. Atheists have half a brain. We're not the ones blindly following nonsense that other people have drilled into our brains. We generally THINK, I know it's a sin to think in your mind but we do it all the same..

  • @blacbraun Atheism is a singular disbelief on a singular issue. We don't believe in articles without evidence. Taking things on faith is a hallmark of being "half brained." Its the easy way without any cerebral undertaking. You don't have to use a brain cell!

  • @bornagain001 What about people that lose an arm defending their country? God didn't make them that way. Why doesn't god heal amputees?

  • @bornagain001 Well, half a brain is still better than a brain that has been brainwashed by Christian bullshit. Thanks for showing once again why religious dicks like you deserve no respect.

  • >implying christianity actually has an argument.

  • @BornWhiteSupremacy Seriously, I would like to open a dialog about this.

  • @BornWhiteSupremacy No. Why would I?

  • Christians get cancer too! They really do honest!

  • @BornWhiteSupremacy He works like a drunken, blind-folded psychopath.

  • @BornWhiteSupremacy ...... im ignorant? your saying that christians get cancer, but hitchens cancer is different.. even though he smoked, drank and has a genetic history of cancer in his family... you say that GOD gave it to him. and you call ME ignorant...

  • @BornWhiteSupremacy No. It proves that if you smoke and drink heavily you are vulnerable to contract cancer. Also, his dad died the same way, so it is in his family as well. How incredibly ignorant you are to say that his catching cancer is proof of your imaginary friend. It is you who are the immoral dirty CHRISTIAN to wish eternal torment upon someone. Feel free to go fuck yourself now.

  • He got cancer because he was a heavy drinker and smoker. Nothing to do with religion you twats.

  • how about you suck on my giant balls you useless twat gooo suck them hard, you are all freaks you religious wankers fuck you and fuck wat you believe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Unbelievable. "It would be good to have him on the christian side of the argument." Hey Fuckstick, the man is is going to die!!! In all likelyhood he won't get better. When will you self-righteous pricks just leave well enough alone and stop trying to jam your religion down everyones throats?

  • asking others to pray for someone is not "jamming religion down everyone's throats."

  • maybe you should change your name to "NoPointFoundation"...you self serving publicists using every opportunity (even throat cancer) to sell your jesus pills..fuck you all

  • Larry mistakes hitchen's polite statement “… there’s some extremely nice people [who] have said that I’m in their prayers, and I can only say that I’m touched by the thought.” as some sort of endorsement. typical christian idiocy

  • @BornWhiteSupremacy So christians never get cancer, or do Christians only get natural cancer, and dirty atheists only get god given cancer, what about atheistic view on Hindus, like you reject all the Hindu Gods, you might get Sheba cancer, and does the brain cancer you appear to be actively promoting, (we know this because of the evidence you think proves there is a god cos Hitchens got cancer) protect you against cancer in of the lymphatic glands.

  • Its all good til you guys have to put in your sales pitch for Christianity. Have some respect for the man and quit pushing your agenda.

  • I hope your sacrificing goats for him aswell...

  • Hey fixed point foundation. I've got an idea I hope you take seriously. How about you disappear up your own arses?

  • wow

such a drastic mix of emotions over 2 minutes my opinion of this guy was on a smooth downward exponential curve as the clip went on

after the shock of the news of course

    wow

  • LOL @ praying for Hitchens. Good intentions certainly, but pointless. Empathy does NOT require prayer to be displayed appropriately.

  • If you really care for Hitchens you'll gather round, pour some rounds of Johnnie Walker Black and toast him. I imagine he believes praying is a silly waste of time. In any case, With his formidable personal power he could survive this thing. God didn't give it to him and he won't take it away. The medicine and Christopher's attitude will work or not.

  • Lol if this is the best God can do (getting rid of Christopher Hitchen's physical form), then he is pretty pathetic, for his legacy will be preserved as memories and ideas of those who have been influenced by him. If one were to ask me what would become of Hitchens if he were to die then I would have to say: an idea (and ideas are bulletproof!).

  • Sigh, I have grown a tremendous amount of love and respect for Christopher over the last 2 months and it is so sad for me to hear the news. I just so happen to be a Christian, but I rather enjoy listening to Hitchen's arguments against the Christian faith; oddly enough it has actually produced a growth IN Christ, rather than a backing away. Nonetheless I admire him greatly, I will be praying vehemently hoping for a full recovery. He is a great man regardless of his theology (or lack thereof)

  • @EyePlayMusik the reason you like hitchens is probably because he spends most of his time arguing the merit of religion, not its truth. you should watch some sam harris videos, he makes a much more direct challenge to the truth of your religious fables.

  • So in the end it's all about aggrandizing your faith, isn't it christians. This is pathetic.

  • instead of praying for him...try donate some of ur spare money to cancer organisations...might not go to him but it surelly help someone and i think he would surelly appreciate that gesture if he knew specially if it came from theists

  • Good Video. I agree, it would be great to have him on the Christian side of the debate.

  • Maybe Hitch on the Christian side of the debate? I thought you said you knew Hitchens and considered him a friend? I have never even spoke a word to the man and know better. That gave me a pause until I walked a mile in crazy town shoes and then had the "aahhh I get it now" moment. I promise you he saw the buzzards before the news.

  • Your "gotcha" announcement , is ill received. Why don't you pray for yourself, you're probably gloating with glee over bad news over "Hitch"......If there was a god what an awful way for "it" to win. (it instead of him or her)....Christians cram your XXXXXX. !

  • @Sweet92Sue U"know what God thinks only thru Scripture" eh? Tell us, what do U know about what he thinks re: Deut 25:11-12 Isaiah 13:13-18 Exodus 21:20-21 Numbers 31:14-18 1 Tim 2:11-12 Col 3:22-23 Luke 14:26 Deut 22:13-21 Isaiah 40:8 Deut 3:1-7 PLENTY MORE & one of my personal favourites'...Hosea 13:16 - "Samarians must bear their guilt, because they have rebelled against God. They will fall by the sword; their little ones will be dashed to the ground, their pregnant women ripped open."

  • Yes, pray to the bloodthirsty war god of the ancient Hebrews. Implore him to cure a modern man of cancer. Perhaps we can convince a Navajo shaman to do a bone dance for him. We'll throw some voodoo in as well, and I can sacrifice a chicken. You UTTER DOLT. You are insulting this great thinker with your well-meaning appeals and your vacuous platitudes. If you really considered him a friend, you'd respect him enough to refrain from calling out the middle-American witch doctors, even on his behalf.

  • Good luck Christopher.. I (an atheist) need you. You are an inspiration..So don't go anywhere...

  • I'll pry that he understands that God loves him and that he can be saved by Jesus.

  • @marciomeloferreira An intelligent, critical thinker like Christopher Hitchens would balk at such notion because he knows, as do an ever-increasing number of us, that there is no such thing as God or Jesus.

  • @pedrico33: Sorry but this is wrong. Hitchens stated he appreciated the kindness. Want proof? Send me a PM and I'll give you the link.

  • @marciomeloferreira: Same here, bro.

  • as a Christian, this depresses me. I'll keep him in my prayers for sure.

  • You fucking scum bags. Just a photo op. Go fuck yourselves.

  • Im an atheist and Hitchens is a complete moron. He was too stupid to realize that INHALING SMOKE INTO YOUR LUNGS ON PURPOSE ISN'T GOOD FOR YOU. Then he supported the massacre of 1,000,000 Iraqi civillians, not only that he mocked them and laughed at them while they were tortured.

I hope you suffer as much as they did Christopher you loathesome pile of garbage.

  • @nykytne13

When has Hitchens ever endorsed torture, let alone "laughed and mocked" people who are being tortured?

I think he knew that smoking causes cancer.

"I hope you suffer as much as they did Christopher" That's really fucked up.

  • @rjr201 Hitchens openly mocked anyone who criticized when critizcized the war, and laughed at the civillian casualties as 'idiots who should have over-thrown Saddam'.

He is a scumbag. He doesn't know where to put his penis, and he was too stupid too stop breathing smoke into his lungs.

He speaks with his pompous British accent and wayyyyy to many Atheists thought that gave him some sort of Pass on all the Political Lies he has told.

  • @nykytne13 Hitchens never laughed at the civilian casualties of the Iraq war or implied that they were "idiots who should have over-thrown Saddam'. The fact that you don't like him because he's smoked, speaks with an accent or is bi-sexual, is disingenous at best and at worst a lie. You don't like him because he's an atheist. You've contributed nothing of note here. Christopher Hitchens will be respected and loved well after you're dead and buried.

  • @Pezzab5 I AM AN ATHEIST YOU DOLT. I've noticed this more and more, if you even question St. Hitchens and the Cult of Hitchens, somehow you must be religious. BS!!!

Hitchens has been consistently WRONG about so many things, INHALING SMOKE INTO HIS LUNGS, THE IRAQ WAR, ETC. ETC. ETC.

The only thing he ever got right was the OBVIOUS FACT THAT THERE IS NO GOD! Big freaking deal.

Face it, he is a giant prick who has done a lot of harm to the atheist cause.

  • @nykytne13 I assumed that you were an atheist. Please accept my apologies. However, you cannot deny the enormous contribution Hitchens has given atheism and the impact that this man has had on their lives. As for him getting it right that there is no God - it is a big freaking deal as you so eloquently put it to millions of people who haven't realised that they are atheists. He's done more for athesim than you could ever possibly do so keep a civil tongue in that head next time you mention him.

  • @Pezzab5 Yes, he's been such a Pr*ck that millions of people won't even consider atheism.

  • @nykytne13 Are you suggesting that millions of people won't consider atheism because they don't like Christopher Hitchens? The quality of your comments and contributions to this debate would suggest that you have the intelligence of a teenager. All you've done is shown yourself to be what you really are - a twit.

  • @nykytne13 Way to show these christians that atheist are inherently good and do not need religion to have a functioning set of morals. (sarcasm)

  • @sweetmonkeylove1 poor taste..

  • @sweetmonkeylove1 Why would I want to do that? You think Hitchens who cheered on the Iraqi War is inherently Good? His response when told that hundreds of thousands of Iraqi kids had died was, 'so what they should have stood up for themselves'. Hitchens is a piece of sh*t! Hahahahahaha, I hope he suffers as much as the Iraqi children have! A quick death would be such an injustice. There is no Hell, so lets hope he suffers good and long while here on Earth!

  • @nykytne13 Your love knows no bounds. (saracsm - in case you are as dense as you seem)

  • @nykytne13 your another Saddam mouthpiece making excuses are suffering from the liberalized media.... (or your clueless)

    douche!

  • Very gracious of you Larry. You appear to have the qualities of kind, generous and thoughtful man. The question for me is would you be this way if you were not a Christian? Cheers

  • I think this man is sincere, including his wishes for Hitchens's recovery. Here's my question for Christians. Say Christopher was wrong and when he dies he finds that out. Why wouldn't an all-loving God say, "You tried your best, but you got it assbackwards. I saw your heart and saw the quiet acts of compassion you thought no one would ever know about. Come on in, son." Instead, it's a children's game of beat the clock and praise me quick. Why? What sense does that make. Don't answer. None.

  • @edwdixon5 God is the perfect, loving judge. His perfection cannot abide any sin. Picture a clear tub of crystal water. Drop a dot of black dye in and the water is muddy. So it is with God. Everything in His Kingdom must be wholly pure. I am not wholly pure,. Neither are you. Neither is C. Hitchens. None of us are. So arguing that we are "pretty good" won't cut it. We must be perfect. The only way to be perfect is to "put on Christ"--to believe in Him. God will accept nothing less.

  • @Sweet92Sue Perfect loving judge? Is that an oxymoron?

  • @wharfrat78 Only if you're quite simplistic. Do you think human judges are completly uncaring about their rulings? You think they don't empathize, feel emotion? Yes, they can love AND be just.

This is a weak rebuttal, wharfrat78. The power of the Gospel does that. It makes such perfect sense, it rings so true in our soul, that one must ask silly, semantic questions in an attempt to rebut it. Beware. If what I said made sense, find the courage to investigate. You'll be amazed at what you find.

  • @Sweet92Sue The Christian scriptures make sense only when read in light of the primitive circumstances in which they were written. We now have a much better understanding of our place in the cosmos. Humanity was not 'created', humanity evolved. Stopping the sun in mid-course doesn't happen, either.

You say that Christianity "rings true in our soul". I say that it does not. I say it is palpably superstitious.

Fear of death is all too human but it is no excuse for intellectual dishonesty.

  • @belzondium Yes, no modern person can understand "Do to others as you would have them do to you" or "love your neighbors" or "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." Yes, only primitive people can grasp those concepts. ;)

"New" does not mean "good" or "right". It often means laughably wrong, as in "manmade global warming".

Lastly, if Christianity didn't have some ring of Truth to it, then why bother rebutting it? Why not dismiss it and leave it alone?

  • @Sweet92Sue Taking your comments in order,

    1) the Golden Rule pre-dates Christianity;

    2) our knowledge (based on verifiable evidence) is that the universe and the beings in it evolved from pre-existing matter;

    3) man-made global warming is a matter to be discussed by weighing the scientific evidence, not by entering the discussion with a political bias (as you clearly have)

    4) lastly, the reason non-believers spend time rebutting faith: it is a socio-political force that needs to be rebutted.

  • @belzondium 1. Of course it does; God wrote moral law on our hearts 2. What pre-existed matter? How does something come from nothing? 3. The scientific evidence was kept out of debate FOR political reasons. AKA, "Hide the decline!" How can discussion be held on evidence if evidence is not allowed? 4. Why? If you live in America, you are free to believe whatever you like. You don't "need" to rebut me or anyone. There's a reason I respond to you. Why do you respond to me?

  • @Sweet92Sue Your right. God is loving. Did you know even eunuchs can go to heaven? Jesus said so. It doesn't matter if they were born without genitals, had their genitals cut off (ouch), or cut off their own genitals so they could sing in the Church choir (Matthew 19:12). You better not be a homosexual though!!! You also better not covet your neighbors donkey!

  • @wharfrat78 Oh, so it's just a single issue for you. Got it.

  • @Sweet92Sue It's two issues. Coveting my neighbors donkey (it's a damn fine donkey) and being homosexual. ;)

  • @wharfrat78 Being homosexual does not mean you have to hate God. He most certainly does not hate you. That you can be assured of.

  • @Sweet92Sue If god is so perfect, why did he create such fallible animals such as ourselves?

  • @sweetmonkeylove1 He didn't. He created us perfect at first. But He created us with free will, so we could choose to love Him. Love cannot be compelled. Love must be freely given. It must be a choice.

Given the choice, we chose sin. Once sin set in, like a bad infection, it eroded everything. It continues to erode to this day--relationships, bodies, minds, spirits. Everything. That's why we're fallible--but God loves us anyway, so much that He made a way for us to get back to perfect. :-)

  • choose to love him or choose to go to hell.

  • @Pelonetillo Choose to know Him first. That happens when you open your mind and allow the thought that Christianity may be true--and set out to discover if it is. Then you may come to love Him. Or, you are right--if, despite being born in a time when info is plentiful and the Gospel has been spread, you still mock and reject God and His Son--you will face punishment on your death. Hard truths don't make them less true. People don't live forever just because death is difficult to face.

  • doesnt matter if info is plentiful, or the gospel has been spread; ignorance is no excuse. love him or go to hell. youre free to choose. love god, because if you dont you go to hell. no pressure though, its up to you -- youre free to do as you please.

  • @Pelonetillo You ARE free, and you show your freedom here. You obviously know the basics, but you think you have a better system than God Almighty--that somehow, were it up to you, you could work out a better salvation. Fine then, He will let you try--for about eighty years, if you're lucky.

This is why C. Hitchens illness is so heartwrenching for Christians. He's looking at his mortality now. It's one thing to rail at God when you're healthy and life is great. it's another when (cont)

  • youve gone way off topic. but thats your choice, just like youre free to choose god--lest you die and suffer for all eternity, of course. but youre still free to choose; thats the advantage of believing in a generous god.

  • @Pelonetillo (part two) you're looking at a very serious illness. I think atheists know this, and it's why the community is sensitive to us praying for him. Much rests on C. Hitchens retaining his angry anti-theism straight through his life for you, doesn't it? For if someone like him can't sustain it, what does that mean for the still, small voice inside of you that whispers God is there, and He is real?

    Peace. I wish you well.

  • @Pelonetillo What if your wrong and Mohammed is the final messenger?
