  • ^your chem course lets you use sodium? Thats extremely dangerous. What country do you live in? In australia you MUST be a qualified chemist or other scientific career and have alot of paper work to get it.

  • im in a chem course where i have to build a device that uses 10 grams of sodium to blow through 1/4 inch thick piece of plywood. Would a shaped charge be the way to go? Im not sure if the sodium gets hot enough to melt a metal cone considering its just raw sodium and water.

  • Lol @ the end, there is no way they will leave the plate there, they would have searched day and night until they found it.

  • I want that under bin ladens ass!

  • Its not so much the shaped charge. The copper plate liquifies and then forms a slug due to aerodynamic forces. The slug self forges as it goes thru the air and becomes very hard. And its travelling at silly velocity. They did this with the Skeet munition back in the eighties. High explosives frizzbies!

  • Just got a couple of them off Ebay for only 7.99$ a piece!!

  • imagine a machine gun with such power, call it the terminator :D

  • This thing is scary!!!! nothing should be this effective. this can change the face of the futur battlefield.

  • the TALIBAN use this weapon, though they call this an EFP. theres NOTHING right now that the ARMY has that can stop this...instead of making a show called FUTURE weapons,...HOW ABOUT FUTURE ARMOR!>...

  • What?

  • Yeah, I don't know when this aired but I saw news coverage about these shape charges in IEDs in the middle east as far back as 2002.

  • huh?

Is that Krakatoa from the most dangerous mountain in Indonesia's island ?

  • Yes. Krakatoa/Krakatau is the volcano that was located in Sunda Strait, between Java and Sumatra. It was disapeared as the result of it's blast. Now, a small volcano is emerging from bottom of the sea, and Indonesian call it Anak Krakatau (Child of Krakatoa).

  • yea, too bad most warships can have up to a 16 in hull

  • lol thats thick....i didnt know that

  • you guys are a band of psycopathic!

    and war addicted schizifrenic!

  • the old british guy only uses shaped charges in all "his inventions" i mean the germans invented them like 70 years ago wow what a future weapon

  • See that hole? I think it could go through a liiiiiittle more than an inch.

  • they got this sub compact idea from IED`s used on us in iraq

  • Actually, IED's rarely have a shaped charge. That's one of the reason why they're called "Improvised" Explosive Device. Most of the time they're made out of old artillery shells.

  • o ya your right my bad efp`s used on us in iraq fucker

  • wow seriously, a shaped charge by itself, thats supposed to be a "break through"? OMG imagine if you could launch it in some kind of rocket! OMG! and an inch of steel holy shit! that would be great prior to depleted uranium and ceramic armour! not to mention every APC with armour thicker than an inch and lined with kevlar, i cant make this any more sarcastic!!!

  • hey they could call it an RPG!

  • i think its mainly good for special ops, where size matters.

  • While the basics are still the same, shaped charges have come a long way since the Panzerfaust. Also, that thing up there is more than capable of penetrating the side armour of an M1A2. Luckily, it's too heavy to be used in an RPG. A man portable missile on the other hand...

  • A little bigger than a beer can buddy

  • ive seen beer cans bigger than that. But yeah, it about size of 2 normal cans.

  • all sidney alfords explosive devices are deceptivly simple lol

  • Does it work underground?

  • This thing is not really like a usual shaped charge like in WWII. If I am not totally mistaken it is rather an EFP charge, which can be seen, since the copper cone has a much larger opening angle than a HEAT-charge.

This doesn't create a jet of copper, it creates a bullet, and no, It doesn't mealt through the Plate, is just moves very fast, (1.5-2km/s), giving the copper slug a huge amount of kinetic energy. Far more than any normal bullet (x'ept for HEAT-charges or sucaliber ammo)

  • wow! sorprendente! great arm!

  • I dn't think that I'll have to speak that freaky language that u r talking only cause u dn't understand english & feeling ashamed bout that! So? U think I'm vulgar? Sry but under this message i see some of ur messages with vulgar things like "madre q te cagó""hijo de tu puta""por el culo"! So who is the vulgar?I think u fking Hispanic Idiot! U think u smart? And what the hell means "WAHT BEGIN THIS??"Try to go to school sometime and learn a language that is even better than your!

    CYA LOSER!

  • ok ok bye bye!!

  • Wow this is one of the most unintelligent and poorly spelled comments I've seen.

  • idiota di silenzio, mentale in ritardo

  • and insurgents have been using them since 2003, it aint a latest invention, you can use paint tins for god sake

  • Ohh portable shaped charges...real genius, I guess were pretending these things haven't been around since WWII.

  • could this be made smaller, than be mounted on a gun, like a 9mm grenade?

  • uhm, isnt the krakatoa already like a gun? the plastic cylinder is the barrel and the copper is the bullet the plastic explosive is the gunpowder, so its basically a miniature cannon

  • I'm jealous, I want to be an expert of explosives too.

  • heavy shit!!!

  • Now that's what I call Heave Metal!!!!!!

  • This is an improvised explosive device, based on those use by insurgents in Iraq and Afghanistan for roadside bombing.

Check the entry wound. Splashed with molten metal.

  • This is more of a shaped-charge device. An IED is like a fuse straped to an ammo box full of nails and gunpwder. Hence the name, IMPROVISED explosive device. This is a PREPARED explosive decive. HA

  • i still dont see how a hot super hot copper slug cap tear through steel, it would be soft after being heated wouldn't it?

  • Amm, you have not been to the army? Every anti-armor ammo has that.

Explosion makes the copper form a "carrot" which penetrates the armor-plate.

  • by propelling the copper with an explosion you get great speed, several times that of non-explosive grenades. at such high speeds and temperatures the metal behaves as a liquid.

  • a super hot copper slug pierces armor cuz of its temperature i think. i mean thats why u can break metal by just burning it like in steel factories

  • QUE PUTA MIERDA!!!!!!!

  • whahahaha putaa mierda ;)

  • Future weapons? In my military service 2001, we did that whith a coin and a plastik coke bottle.

  • I'd love to see some pictures or video of that :)

  • so a 5cm hole in a warship is really gonna sink it? who really believes all this crap?

  • The jet of molten copper carries on into the ship and causes secondary damage, imagine it placed near vital equipment, also in the video they mention placing more than one per a ship.

The reason most people here are underwelmed(sp) is because this is a weapon without a delivery system....imagine it as the bullet, what we need to see now is the rifle that fires it as it were.

  • I've seen footage of this device or something very much like it placed on a robot sentry that hides and waits for tanks/trucks to pass close then fires the weapon at it.... it was very very effective.

  • wow a plastic warhead of the Panzerfaust zzzZZZzzzzz

  • The Krakatoa may be undetectable, but how are you supposed to plant it undetected?

  • whaa.. just a shaped charge.. whats new or future in that?

  • Go Irish Defence Forces :)

    KICK ASS!!!

  • If you can just get that rubber raft close enough.

  • you tell them knigge46

  • thats pretty scary that a thing the size of persons fist can disable warship

  • must*

  • Fuck that blender7 dude! Wait till I get that Krakatoa up his ASS!!!!!

  • the insurgents version of this weapon is called an "Explosively Formed Penetrator" and is alot scarier than an IED...

  • this is where insurgents get there instructions.

  • hmmm kinda like an ied.

  • skip to 2:05 - looks like cocaine he's stuffing in there

  • the volcano is named Krakatao, not krakatoa you dumbasses!

you Americans shouldn't open your gush too widely...

  • It can be spelled three ways, either Krakatoa, Krakatau or Krakatao. I also believe the weapon was developed by the British. Thanks for being stupid though. It mush be fun having the IQ of plant life Knigge46.

  • Looks more like a terrorist weapon. Hmmm plastic and a plate of thin copper goes easily trough airport security dosnt it? Kinda makes you worried.

  • Damn, they call it "Future weapons". Devices of such type had been invented more than 40 years ago. They are in service in many armies for dozens of years.

  • the insurgents are using those as we speak, compliments of Iran. we may have all these new weapons, but we're letting those nations that REALLY ARE evil push us around. Iran, China, Russia.

  • U little us motherfucker wake up!!! u call iran china and russia evil? are u ok or are u just such idiot??? watch out your words!! u call these countries evil? but ur fucking country has killed more civilians during the last 15 years than they did since the second world war!!! stupid us kids!!! nothing else to add.

  • only iran is evil

  • when the hell did we call russia evil? during the cold war?! US doesnt think of Russia as evil any more, not since the wall fell. since china never realy got a chance to kill civilians during WW2 and iran wasnt in WW2, u must mean that russia killed fewer civilians in WW2 than America did in the last 15 years. that is bullshit, the first ones into Berlin were the russians (by a couple of hours), and the russians hated the germans more than anyone can understand.

  • so, think about a hundreds angry, pissed off russians going into the capital of the people they would do anything to kill. they killed almost everone and burned almost everything (just like the germans did to them earlier). oh and they killed thousands and thousands of german POW just before the war ended for more revenge. one final note, america hasnt been the one that has killed so many civilians in Iraq, the taliban have with there bomb and fear tactics.

  • the americans on youtube do not show the point of view of all americans, because our country allows everyo one to have their our own opinions, unlike the shit hole u most likely live in.

  • ...

  • shut ur insignificant face

  • I heard they're using these in IEDs in Iraq

  • Yes they are. Iran's kind contribution to the insurgents!

  • This weapon uses Self-formed projectile.This isn't a HEAT weapon.

  • well it uses the same principle as a HEAT(High Explosive Anti Tank) weapon, the only difference is the shaped charge's liner angle is very small so instead of having a small standoff distance for optimal jet penetration it forms a copper projectile slower than a jet but with a much much further standoff distance from the charge.

  • Nice
